This week, we spoke to 2:09 marathon man, Dewi Griffiths. The Wales and Great Britain international talked us through his career so far; from making the Commonwealth Games team in 2014 and running his 2:09 debut in 2017, to struggling with injuries and illnesses more recently and now trying to work his way back to his best. Dewi Griffiths has become Wales' best long distance runner in recent times regularly representing Wales and Team GB at varied distances at XC and on the road. With a marathon PB of 2:09 and a half marathon PB of 61:33 and the only person to take 3 consecutive JCP Swansea Half Marathon titles, it is plain to see why Dewi is held in such high esteem. We talk about his drive, ambition, goals and achievements to date along with some of the disappointments he has had to face along the way. 'A String of Pearls' was heard for 25 years on BBC Radio Wales, hosted by Dewi Griffiths. He announced his retirement in 2014, after sixty years with the BBC. Dewi joined in 1954 as a Probationary Technical Assistant with The Welsh Home Service, working in Cardiff, before being transferred to television in 1956 . Dewi returned at the end of 1962 as BBC Wales formed its very own Sports Department. Over the next 30 years, Dewi directed the cameras at every rugby match played at Cardiff Arms Park. Dewi's happy memories were key to his twilight career at BBC Radio Wales, playing the songs and stars of yesteryear as presenter of 'A String of Pearls' on Sunday mornings.
