Eating healthy doesn't have to be complicated. For the past couple of years, I've kept my diet simple by cycling through almost the same meals every week. In this episode, I break down what I'm eating right now as I train for my Spartan 21k, why this approach keeps me feeling strong and focused, and how keeping it simple has been the key to building consistency without overthinking every bite. For more go to: www.scottmlynch.comLevel up your life by joining my Patreon where you'll get exclusive content every week and more badass offerings (rips t-shirt in half, Hulk Hogan style, and runs around the room). Pierce Showe is redefining what consistency, conviction, and calling look like in the world of ultra-endurance running. He just broke the Guinness World Record for most consecutive half marathons on a treadmill—running 13.1 miles every single day for 125 days straight—and he's here to talk about what it took, and why it mattered. As a running coach and motivational content creator, Pierce is on a mission that's as physical as it is spiritual.Driven by faith, discipline, and a deep sense of purpose, he's showing the world that you don't need a podium to be powerful, you just need a reason that moves you.But let's be clear: Pierce has landed on those podiums, too.His ultra-running resume speaks volumes: 1st place at the Miami 100 (100-mile race) in 21:23:00 (2024); 1st place at the Coyote Trail Run (50-mile trail race) in 9:54:59 (2023); 3rd place at the Blazin' Summer Sufferfest (54 km) in 6:12:06 (2024).His personal records are strong: 21:23:00 for 100 miles; 10:41:48 for 100k; and 9:54:59 for 50 miles. From battling dark mental stretches mid-race to climbing onto a treadmill before dawn, Pierce is here to share what keeps him grounded, what fuels his discipline, and how he's turning mileage into meaning. From the trail to the screen, Pierce isn't just building endurance, he's looking to build impact. And through every step, he proves that transformation doesn't start with the legs.It starts with belief. In today's conversation, Pierce takes me through this wild endeavor and adventure, the crazy stories that come with breaking a world record, what comes next for him, why he wears a "Jesus is King" shirt, the power of consistency, and lessons he's learned along the way.Tap into the Pierce Showe Special. If you enjoy the podcast, please consider following us on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and giving us a five-star review!I would also appreciate it if you share it with your friend who you think will benefit from it.Comment the word “PODCAST” below and I'll DM you a link to listen. If this episode blesses you, please share it with a friend!S H O W N O T E S-The Run Down By The Running Effect (our new newsletter!): https://tinyurl.com/mr36s9rs-BUY MERCH BEFORE IT'S GONE: https://shop.therunningeffect.run-Our Website: https://therunningeffect.run-THE PODCAST ON YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClLcLIDAqmJBTHeyWJx_wFQ-My Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/therunningeffect/?hl=en-Take our podcast survey: https://tinyurl.com/3ua62ffz

RECENT REVIEWS: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Love the planted runner Claire gives great advice on how to make the most out of each run. I look forward to listening to each episode and love the advice on nutrition as well. Claire, one suggestion. Can we hear more interviews from slower runners? (Not those that say I'm slow but still run 8 min miles. I'm talking back of the pack 11-15 min pace.) Mel@Mal ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Mental Strength! I found The Planted Runner blog and podcast when I was in the midst of training for my first half marathon this past spring. Coach Claire's information on a variety of running topics have really helped as a beginner; I especially love the mental strength minute segment! I never thought that running would be a part of my life, but I started a running habit in order to combat postpartum depression. I'm so thankful to have this podcast as a resource so that I can continue to train in an intelligent way, with a lower chance of injury. In the fall, I am planning to run my second half marathon. I am so excited to start my Half Marathon training plan from The Planted Runner in a few weeks.

Pulling up to this episode is like pulling up to your local library... it's got a little bit of everything in it, except for hopefully those pesky midwestern ticks. The episode opens with the usual intro banter, where Des characterizes Kara as being in "librarian mode." If Kara is the librarian, then that makes Des the person who is relentlessly trying to make you laugh in there. Thus, we are off to a good start riffing about summers in the midwest, travel, and camps. Kara talks about winning an Emmy(!) and about Colt graduating from 8th grade and being on the precipice of both driving and high school. Des shares about her prep for the upcoming Western States training camp. Is she ready to enter the shallower end of one of the most historic 100-milers in the world? Plus, they bond over their mutual hatred of ticks before turning to discuss their impressions of season one for Grand Slam Track (GST). What do they think so far? Where could it be improved? Will it move the needle on interest in our sport? Then, they react to a RW article on influencers and phones in races. Should they be allowed? Where is the line to be drawn? Is it good for the sport or just annoying? Finally, they end with a Lagoon Sleep top 5 where Des questions her chinchilla ways as they both share uplifting moments from their weeks. In S5Ep5 of the PRP, Adam prattles with blossoming long distance runners, local food & agriculture champions, community cultivators and proud park-hopping pals Meg Goldwyn & Laura Matney, who have been preparing for the Glass City Half Marathon on Sunday April 27th, 2025. Tap in to learn how two remarkable human beings are leveraging their passion for fresh produce & funky vibes to build a healthier, more connected Ann Arbor. Meg—Argus Café Store Manager and certified dog mom of the decade is newer to the sport but fully aboard the endorphin express. Laura, General Manager at Argus Farm Stop and lifelong endurance adventurer with a flair for fungi, brings years of grit and community organizing insight to the convo. The squad unpacks how Argus Farm Stop's unique model supports local farmers, feeds neighbors, and keeps the lights on (literally) in a way that blends business, service, and sustainability into one delicious, community-enhancing mission. But it's not just about the veggies—it's about the vision. At the heart of it all is a guiding question: “How does what we do every day serve the local food economy?”Things get vulnerable when the duo deep dives on the power of shared knowledge—how pulling back the curtain on their systems, lessons, and even missteps can spark change across the local & national food landscape. Whether it's telling tales at a farm stop conference, spreading the gospel of pawpaws, or dropping hot tips on turning smoothies into waffles (yes, that's a thing), Meg & Laura live to connect dots and people alike. From park bagging all 162 green spaces in Ann Arbor to gap-trail biking and glacial terrain escapades, this lovely duo reminds us that movement and nourishment go hand in hand—and that the spiritual symbiosis of running, food, and community might just be the perfect fuel to keep us joyful, curious, and snack-happy as we traverse through this wild ride called life. What's in tarnation is an L3C? Laminated life mantras? Sommelier say whaaa?? WTF is a wild ramp?! Volun-told you so? Former college football player COLLAPSES! DIES SUDDENLY while running Brooklyn Half Marathon!
This is your afternoon All Local update for Saturday, May 17, 2025.
www.run4prs.com Segment 1: Understanding the Half MarathonFirst, let's talk about what a half marathon is. A half marathon is a race that covers 13.1 miles, which is roughly 21 kilometers. It's a great distance for those who want a challenge but aren't quite ready for the full 26.2 miles of a marathon.Training for this distance comes with numerous benefits – not just for your physical health but also for your mental well-being. Many find that the training process teaches discipline and can be a great way to set a personal challenge!Segment 2: Setting GoalsNext, let's discuss the importance of setting goals. It's crucial to have clear, achievable targets as you begin training. Maybe your goal is to simply finish your first half marathon, or perhaps you're looking to beat your previous time. Whatever your objective, make sure it's specific and realistic.Think about what motivates you and how you want to feel on race day!Segment 3: Training PlansNow, let's move on to training plans. There are many different plans available, so it's essential to find one that fits your current fitness level.A typical training plan often spans 10 to 16 weeks and includes: Long runs: These are key for building endurance. Speed workouts: Intervals or tempo runs can improve your pace. Cross-training: Activities like cycling or swimming can help with overall fitness without the impact on your joints. Rest days: Don't underestimate these! They help your body recover. For beginners, I recommend looking for plans from reputable sources like the Runkeeper app or Hal Higdon's website.Segment 4: Nutrition and HydrationTraining for a half marathon isn't just about running; nutrition plays a critical role too. Fueling your body properly can make a significant difference in your performance.Focus on a balanced diet rich in carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats. And don't forget hydration! Aim to drink water consistently throughout the day and especially before, during, and after your long runs.Segment 5: The Importance of Rest and RecoverySpeaking of recovery, it's crucial to understand the importance of rest days. Your muscles need time to heal and grow stronger after those intense training sessions. Incorporate active recovery like gentle yoga or light walking to keep your body moving without added strain.Listen to your body. If you're feeling overly fatigued or notice persistent aches, take a break or modify your schedule.Segment 6: Race Day PreparationAs race day approaches, preparation is key. In the days leading up to the race, focus on getting adequate sleep and sticking to familiar foods. On the morning of the race, have a light breakfast and ensure you've planned your route to the race location to avoid any last-minute stress. Before you start, take a moment to visualize crossing the finish line and achieving your goal!Segment 7: Common Mistakes to AvoidFinally, let's cover some common mistakes to avoid. One major pitfall is overtraining, which can lead to injuries. Make sure to listen to your body and don't push through pain or excessive fatigue. Also, pay attention to nutrition and hydration; neglecting these can impact your performance on the big day. Lastly, don't skip rest days! They're just as important as the training itself.
