This is the Live Call-in Show from this past Sunday night, June 7, 2026! Mike and Scott were back together tonight to take your calls LIVE for the hour! We discussed the situation last week with the delayed registration for the runDisney Princess Half-Marathon and possible solutions to this problem in the future. We also had a more broad discussion on the state of runDisney and if runDisney has "peaked" in how much the Disney Parks brand values this arm. Wade called in from Nebraska with some great thoughts on this topic as a veterans of many races. We also got a great call from Shamus from Florida with a very creative and unique solution to "save" the current assets in the Carousel of Progress by maybe finding them a new home at the Boardwalk! She ran 1:57 in an Olympic final as an afterthought—then walked away, rebuilt everything, and came back faster. Alex Bell isn't just reinventing herself; she's finally becoming who she was supposed to be.In this conversation, Alex takes Dominic through one of British running's most unlikely second acts. She opens about the moment she crossed the finish line in Tokyo and knew (lying on her back; a million feelings at once) that she would never run 1:57 again. She talks honestly about the mental health toll of years spent as an unfunded elite, working police shifts and retail while competing at Diamond League level–and why she needed to step away from the sport entirely before she could fall back in love with it. Now, under coach Andrew Henderson at Leeds Beckett, she's averaging 85 miles a week (double what she ran at the peak of her 800m career) and her body has never felt better. She breaks down the training shift in real terms: double threshold days, long canal runs with 20-plus athletes on Sunday mornings, and the kind of joy she says she never once felt standing on a track start line. She describes pacing the 2026 TCS London Marathon, watching the world record fall from the inside, and coming home the next day to hand in her notice. The marathon debut is coming in February. LA 2028 is the dream. And she is, by her own admission, just getting started.Tap into the Alex Bell Special. If you enjoy the podcast, please consider following us on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and giving us a five-star review! Josh Blatchford couldn't stand long enough to brush his teeth—and he was a personal trainer. After years of chronic illness nobody could diagnose, Josh hit rock bottom in 2020. He was bedridden, losing function on the left side of his body, and spending $30,000 a year on care that kept symptoms at bay for maybe six months before they came back harder. He had a two-year-old daughter he couldn't lift. His mother-in-law found something called bioenergetic testing on a Facebook forum.Fourteen months after his first round of remedies, Josh ran the Columbus Half Marathon. He signed up to prove to himself he'd actually healed. He didn't let himself believe it until he turned the corner toward the finish line. Now Josh is the founder and CEO of Attuned, the company he built around the technology that gave him his life back. On this episode, recorded in person in Columbus, Josh and Dominic get into how bioenergetic scanning works (hair and saliva samples; 60-plus years of science; and why it can flag a stress fracture weeks before symptoms appear), what separates the Endurance Scan from wearable data, how Dominic's own scan caught his adrenal issues and flagged his achilles before he mentioned either, and why Josh won't recommend a blanket supplement stack to anyone—even after taking 52 a day at his sickest. Text Kristen your thoughts or feedback about the showThis one took me a while to process.A few months ago, I ran my first-ever half marathon: the Disney Princess Half Marathon. And while I expected the experience to be about running, I realized pretty quickly it was actually about something much bigger.Trust.Trusting yourself before certainty exists.Trusting the ordinary reps.Trusting that consistency matters even when progress feels invisible.Trusting that you can keep showing up before you fully know how things will turn out.In this episode, I'm sharing the real behind-the-scenes of training for and completing the race — from injuries and superstition, to awkward Main Street moments, to realizing the finish line felt a lot less cinematic than I expected. This isn't really an episode about running. It's a reflection on business ownership, consistency, identity, motherhood, courage, and learning to trust yourself a little more every time you try something hard.I think that lesson is going to stay with me a lot longer than the medal.
This week, we talk about seeing good in the world and finding ways to do good. It's so easy to see all the negativity around us, but Trillia Newbell wants that to change. We also talk about a blind runner who ran the NYC half marathon with directions from his smart glasses. And we talk about a nun who runs a transition home for men who've recently gotten out of prison, and wants others to see the good in these men. These are encouraging stories that we'd love for you to hear too. Watch and join in on the conversation today! Brandon Thrower and I sat down via FaceTime to talk about the Ridge to Rails races coming up on June 6th. There is a 50k, Half Marathon and 10k. As of the recording, there were still some spots available, so sign up quickly! Brandon and I had recorded a podcast about this race a few years ago, but there have been quite a few changes to the courses. We are so fortunate for all the new trails that have opened and the access we have to them for races such as these. If you are running in any of these races, you will want to listen. Brandon talks thoroughly about each course, including aid station and crew information. Lots of pertinent information for you to hear! Enjoy, and I will be praying for good weather and good times to all those running out there! Grace Thek has recently turned into one of triathlon's top runners, with incredible results across the half Ironman and Ironman distances over the last 12-18 months. But her rise to the top has been far from quick. This episode is a great testament to the slow, patient build to consistent top performances. The most surprising part? How little volume she runs to be one of the best runners in the sport. Find out how in this episode. From early days as a basketball player who saw running as punishment, to becoming a dedicated trail runner immersed in the sport's culture, Matt's journey is anything but traditional. What stands out most is how Matt found his way into ultras later in life; through curiosity, community, and proximity to the iconic Bay Area trails like Tilden Park. His first true ultra, the Dick Collins 50 miler, marked the start of a deeper connection to the sport. From there, experiences like the Canyons 100K and involvement with FreeTrail and Trailing Indicators helped shape his identity as a true midpacker balancing life, family, and big goals. But this episode goes deeper than race results. Matt shares a powerful and emotional story about loss in his family and how it reshaped his perspective on running, and life. It's a raw reminder that while we chase big goals, life can shift in an instant.Key Takeaways:Running doesn't need to start early to become meaningfulCommunity is often the glue that keeps us in the sportTaking care of yourself, on and off the trail, is essentialLife is fragile…be present and appreciate the momentRelevant LinksWestern States Endurance Run: https://www.wser.orgCanyons Endurance Runs: https://canyons.utmb.worldTahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs: https://trter.com/Cocodona 250: https://cocodona.comPartner Links: PlayOn Relief - https://playonrelief.comProven Pain Relief for People Who Refuse to Stop! All Natural, Fast Acting, Long Lasting, Targeted ReliefUse MIDPACKER for 20% off your first orderTraining Peaks A training app as versatile as you. The SportsGrad Podcast: Your bite-sized guide to enter the sports industry
Want to land a job in sport? Apply for The SportsGrad Method: www.sportsgrad.com.au/programSo you want to work in sport. You are not alone, and that is exactly the problem.Sport is one of the most competitive industries in the world. Everyone is passionate. Everyone has a degree. Everyone is willing to work hard. And yet most people spend years on the outside looking in, never quite understanding why.It is not a capability problem. It is a method problem.I am Reuben Williams, founder of SportsGrad. I landed a job at Cricket Australia the day after I finished university. When COVID hit and I was made redundant, I was headhunted into a role that doubled my salary. Not because I got lucky, because I had a method that most people never find.Since then that method has helped over 800 people land jobs in sport, from graduates with no experience to career professionals who thought the window had already closed. We have built a global network that members can tap into from day one, and spent ten years inside this industry learning exactly how hiring actually works.80% of jobs in sport are never advertised. The people landing them are not the most qualified. They are the most visible, the most connected, and the most prepared to convert opportunity into an offer. That is what The SportsGrad Method teaches. How I can help you:1. Listen to The Method — real coaching call snippets every Wednesday so you can hear the work in action.2. Read The SportsGrad Newsletter — weekly insight on breaking into sport the right way.3. Apply for The SportsGrad Method Program — if you are serious about making this happen, this is the fastest path. We review every application personally. If you refuse to settle for a career you do not care about, you are in the right place.Let's get to work: www.sportsgrad.com.au/programReuben Hosted on Acast. This week on The Back of the Pack Podcast, we head back to Bucyrus, Kansas for the 2026 Running with the Cows Half Marathon. After a few years away from this race, we return to see how this beloved local event is holding up, and whether we could finally make peace with a course that has not always been kind to us. The morning started nearly perfect, with cool temperatures, a strong crowd, smooth race morning packet pickup, and that familiar small-town energy that makes this race special. Of course, as the sun climbed higher over the wide-open Kansas roads, things started to warm up quickly, reminding us that summer running season is right around the corner. We break down the course, the hills, the out-and-backs, the mental grind of hearing the finish line before actually getting there, and the challenge of keeping a goal pace when the day starts heating up. Along the way, we also talk about seeing familiar faces, meeting podcast listeners on course, and the community support that keeps this race feeling like more than just another half marathon. As always, Running with the Cows delivered its famous post-race spread, complete with chocolate milk, great food, and even a smoked ham donation situation that may have been the true victory of the morning. We also give an honest look at a few small hiccups, from pacing confusion to medal expectations, while still celebrating what was overall a very successful return to Bucyrus. If you enjoy race reviews with sunshine, hills, cows, barbecue, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting, this episode is ready for you.

Most runners use the same race strategy for every distance. That's why they blow up in marathons, fall apart in ultras, or leave speed on the table in shorter races. In this episode, Ron and Isobel break down how race strategy changes from the half marathon all the way to the 100 miler. They cover:Pacing mistakes runners make at every distanceFueling differences from road races to ultrasWhy the marathon to the miler it's really an eating competitionThe mental shift required for 50Ks and beyondWhat actually matters in a 100K and 100 milerThe biggest mistakes ultra runners make earlyHow different race distances expose different weaknessesThis is not just about running fitness. It's about strategy, patience, emotional control, and knowing what the race actually demands from you.Whether you're training for your first half marathon or your next miler, this episode will change how you approach race day.

Claire, one suggestion. Can we hear more interviews from slower runners? (Not those that say I'm slow but still run 8 min miles. I'm talking back of the pack 11-15 min pace.) Mel@Mal ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Mental Strength! I found The Planted Runner blog and podcast when I was in the midst of training for my first half marathon this past spring. Coach Claire's information on a variety of running topics have really helped as a beginner; I especially love the mental strength minute segment! I never thought that running would be a part of my life, but I started a running habit in order to combat postpartum depression. I'm so thankful to have this podcast as a resource so that I can continue to train in an intelligent way, with a lower chance of injury. In the fall, I am planning to run my second half marathon. I am so excited to start my Half Marathon training plan from The Planted Runner in a few weeks.

To our FTK community, thank you for sticking with us this past week. It's been the toughest period we've faced since starting in 2022, and we don't take your support lightly. In our recent apology episode, we said we'd make real changes, not just talk about them. This week is the first step. We're genuinely proud to welcome Tess Marks as a permanent host alongside Brett and Joel. Tess brings a perspective and energy that will make the show better, and that matters right now more than ever. At the start of this episode, we address everything that's unfolded. We're not brushing it past or softening it, we're owning it. What was said on our network was hurtful, and it didn't reflect the kind of platform we want FTK to be. Brett, Joel and Tess talk through it openly, and more importantly, we outline the changes we're making to ensure we do better. That includes a clear commitment to better represent and support women in the sport we all love. We know FTK has a voice in the running community, and with that comes responsibility. This past week has been a hard lesson, but it's one we're taking seriously, and using to improve. The rest of the episode gets back to what we love: racing, community, and the sport itself. Brett and Tess recap their half marathon efforts from the weekend, and we roll into Give Some Kudos and TWHSOITWTWATSA. We're still here, we're learning, and we're committed to being better. Ryan opens up about his journey from bartending in Indianapolis and living out of his car while exploring the American West… to becoming one of the key creative voices behind Freetrail and modern trail running media. The conversation dives deep into curiosity, creativity, and learning to say yes to opportunity before you feel ready. Ryan shares stories about discovering trail running through Born to Run and Eat and Run, volunteering at Cascade Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run, and eventually building a life around storytelling, mountains, music, and community. The two also unpack Ryan's unique approach to ultrarunning—especially his love for “step-for-step” adventures with friends at races like the Swiss Alps 100 and upcoming adventures filming Courtney Dauwalter at Cocodona 250 and running the Mammoth. But the heart of this episode centers around a bigger topic: the fragility of life. In episode 294 of the Better With Running podcast, hosts Chris Armstrong and Zac Newman reflect on a massive weekend of racing at the Ballarat Marathon and Half Marathon. Chris shares his personal success in the half marathon, where he clocked a time of 1:21:34—a one-minute improvement from the previous year. He attributes this success to a psychological shift encouraged by his best friend, Lauren, who challenged him to abandon his conservative racing nature and take aggressive risks early on. This strategy forced him to dig deep during a "pain cave" at 18 kilometers, where he found perspective by reflecting on the grit his friend showed during childbirth, ultimately helping him grind out the final 12 minutes of the race. The episode features returning guest Rory Flanagan, a beloved figure in the Run2PB community who recently secured a marathon PB of 2:40:46 in Ballarat. Rory discusses his background as a former 400-meter runner and soccer player who rediscovered running during COVID, eventually teaming up with coach Benny Stoltz. Despite an "ideal-less" preparation marked by a 10-week Achilles flare-up and missed long runs due to work, Rory managed to peak on race day, supported by an "entourage" on bikes revving him up around the lake. Rory also provides a spirited update on the Choccy Milk Run Club (CMRC) in Bendigo, describing the group as a mix of "geriatric old men" who provide essential social relief and humor. . The camaraderie was on full display in Ballarat, highlighted by a humorous CMRC sign on the course that provided much-needed laughs during the grueling second lap. The technical side of racing is explored through Rory's experiences with gear and environmental conditions. He notes the strong winds in Ballarat, which at one point made his race bib feel like a "spinnaker" pulling him sideways, though he rated the overall conditions as a manageable 6 out of 10 compared to previous "howling" half marathons. Looking ahead, Rory is setting his sights on the Chicago Marathon in October. He plans to embrace a shorter marathon block while continuing to integrate cross-training on the bike to manage his physical longevity. Zac and Chris express their excitement for his journey, noting that the "crowd support on another level" in U.S. marathons will be a transformative experience for him as he continues to chase sub-2:40.With thanks to Oat Running Socks for their support of this episode.
