As long-term listeners may know, back when I started this podcast I launched a software system for event organizers to sell tickets called EventsFrame. To be honest, my main inspiration to start this podcast was in the hope of promoting it…. but that led to me really enjoying podcasting and the podcast has outlived my involvement with EventsFrame :)   Enter Martin. Martin is a serial entrepreneur living in Prague who I've known for many years. We used to be part of a weekend mastermind where a group of us would go off for a weekend to different towns and cities in the Czech Republic, book a conference room in a hotel and try to help each other out, followed of course by several beers in the evening. On one of these weekends, I was talking about how hard it was to juggle the software business with my events business and Martin said ‘why don't I take it over'. The rest is history and Martin joins me on the pod today to talk about running an events software company during the worst time for live events in our lifetime!   Listen on: Apple Podcasts / Podbean / Stitcher / Spotify / YouTube / Google Podcasts   I hope you enjoyed the podcast and if you did then please, please leave us a review. It really helps us!   Get in touch with me to talk about anything at all via dan@appsevents.com   Sign up to our newsletter to get notified when the podcast is live   About the Events Podcast: I'm your host Dan Taylor and each week I talk with event entrepreneurs about how they plan, promote and run their events.   We help you build your ‘Events Empire' by growing your business using live events. Whether you are full-time or part-time, and whether you are running community meetups, conferences, trade shows, IT training, music events. Whatever the type of event we focus on finding actionable tips that you can use straight away.   We are looking for a sponsor for the podcast so if you are interested please email me at dan@appsevents.com

The Tropical MBA Podcast - Entrepreneurship, Travel, and Lifestyle

Today's episode is all about software startups, and there are very few people more capable or qualified to talk about them than today's guest. Simon Payne first joined us on this podcast back in 2016 to talk about his role as the technical co-founder of Leadpages. Since leaving Leadpages in 2016, Simon has gone on to found multiple software companies, including a video tool called Convert Player, and a ticketing tool that we regularly use in our own business called EventsFrame. But, as you will hear on today's podcast, the results of these endeavors have ultimately been a mixed bag.  Simon joins us this week to share the details of his entrepreneurial journey over the last few years, to discuss how the relationships between developers and marketers can make or break a software business, and to explain why he's recently decided to help us build our own software platform at Dynamite Jobs.

It was great to chat to David who is co founder of Demio - some really cool webinar software (that integrates with EventsFrame of course ;)) It's a great entrepreneur ‘origin story'. David is one of the new breeds of entrepreneurs who have never had a job, and I really love these stories, as when I came out of college it wasn't an option to start an online business but now it's a viable career choice. David had a lot of false starts including launching 4 web apps before he stuck with Demio and even then it took 2 years to launch it, so it was a real struggle in the early days. We also learn about running virtual meetups, training and events via webinars and discuss: How to keep people engaged with regular activities, quizzes etc. How to sell a virtual event using testimonials and social proof If you want to hear more of David, he interviewed me on his podcast about the story of EventsFrame so check it out here it was a fun chat The podcast is sponsored by www.eventsframe.com - Effortless ticketing and attendee management with NO ticket fees and plans from just $20/month! This week's episode is a bit different. I was delighted to be a guest on the ‘SaaS Breakthrough Podcast' with David Abrams from Demio to talk about EventsFrame, the ticketing system I co founded. I am often asked about the backstory of EventsFrame by listeners so this is a great way to tell the full story. I thought I would post it here as I get into a lot of detail about how we founded the software and a lot of the problems and ‘war stories' of our entrepreneurial adventure so far. If you are thinking about starting an app or software for event producers this is the episode for you! In this interview we discuss: Founding AppsEvents - our Google for Education Partner company How we came to start EventsFrame to use ourselves AppSumo - What it is…...and the good, the bad and the ugly of doing an AppSumo offer How to make your ticketing software more viral How podcasting really helps you grow your network How hard it is to start a business, and how there is no substitute in the beginning for hours and hours spent contacting potential customers What are our plans for EventsFrame - (Side note we are looking for a sales and marketing co founder so get in touch!)
