“But I think an important thing is making things inclusive. Before anything goes out to a customer, every single person in the kitchen and all of the servers try everything. We take input from everybody. Understanding that everyone knows what good food tastes like. Having an inclusive kitchen where everybody's able to put their input in. I think that's what builds a great menu.” - Sashia LirianoWelcome back to another episode of Discover More. This week, we continue our conversation with Sashia Liriano.Sashia is a Dominican American chef who is the Chef de Cuisine at Friday, Saturday, Sunday, the #2 restaurant in the city according to Philly Magazine. In part 1 of the interview, Sashia shares about her personal journey into the culinary world, so we recommend starting there for context around this week's conversation. In this episode, we bounce around to a wide range of food topics, ranging from recipes to recommendations to food insecurity.Sashia explains what she looks for in a good restaurant and recommends some of her favorite places to eat and shop for groceries in Philadelphia. She also shares about her experience growing up in the Bronx and how that informs her life today, both in and outside of the kitchen. We also dive into an uncomfortable but important conversation around food insecurity. Not only is food inaccessibility damaging the health of disadvantaged populations, but it's also disrupting the food systems and cultural traditions of many communities. We both took so much away from this conversation and we encourage everyone to reflect on the topics discussed, especially around food inequality and our role in it.We hope you enjoy this episode of Discover More, with us and Sashia Liriano. Show Notes:Sashia's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sashia_gabrieli_/Friday Saturday Sunday's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/friday.saturday.sunday/Restaurant Website: https://www.fridaysaturdaysunday.com/Sashia's Favorite Restaurants in Philadelphia: - New American- Cadence: https://www.cadencerestaurant.com/ - French- Forsythia: https://www.forsythiaphilly.com/ - Chinese- David's Mai Lai Wah: http://www.davidsmailaiwah.com/ - Mexican- Burrito Feliz Foodtruck: https://www.instagram.com/burritofelizphilly/?hl=en - Pho- Nam Phuong: https://www.namphuongphilly.com/ - Ramen- Terakawa Ramen: http://www.terakawaramen.com/ - Sandwich- Stockyard Sandwich: https://www.stockyardphilly.com/ - Sandwich- Middle Child: https://middlechildphilly.com/

“I worked on this dish for three months and it's still not good enough. Let's put it on the back burner and work on something else. We really wanna put things out that we always gonna be proud of. You know when you do something and you know you half-assed it? You pretend to feel good about it, but in reality, deep down in your heart, you know that it's not that good. That's definitely part of the creative process...having integrity.” - Sashia  Gabrieli LirianoWelcome back to another episode of Discover More. This week's guest is Sashia Liriano.Sashia is a Dominican American chef who is the Chef de Cuisine at Friday, Saturday, Sunday, the #2 restaurant in the city according to Philly Magazine. She was born and raised in the Bronx and then attended the Art Institute in Philadelphia for culinary management.Over the past decade, she's worked at 19 kitchens, including a number of Philly's most prominent restaurants, including, Barbuzzo's, Little Nonnas, and Fork.Sashia comes with a wealth of knowledge around all things food, resiliency, and restaurant management. In this week's episode, Sashia tells some eye-opening stories from her culinary journey in Philadelphia, which truly shine a light on her resilience. She also shares about her Dominican American upbringing, and how those influences inform the food that she creates today. She goes on to explain the power that mentorship has had on her life, as well as her creative process as a chef.Whether it's cooking, leading, or listening, Sashia leads with integrity and a human-first approach. It's clear why she's such a respected and beloved member of the Philadelphia food scene. We hope you enjoy this episode of Discover More, with us and Sashia Liriano. Show Notes:Sashia's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sashia_gabrieli_/Friday Saturday Sunday's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/friday.saturday.sunday/Restaurant Website: https://www.fridaysaturdaysunday.com/Beyond Order by Jordan B Peterson:The Love Languages by Gary ChapmanHow to Do the Work by Dr. Nicole LePerra

Mike Augustyniak with WCCO Television Weather. The temperature change today versus yesterday iin the Twin Cities is zero. hinckley's at 50 away from the lake influence but also away from some clouds that have built built up.   Twin Cities at 54 and that's about the warmest number we can find in the region right now.  check in with some of the water Watchers and they're reporting a lot of 40s and 50s 51 both in Rochester and pictures of exit 46 set Charlie's place in oil and 49 from Alexandria down the road to Cold Spring and in Chanhassen and Cannon Falls is 52. years a wider view here of the satellite. you can see how we had these clouds build up across the sea lie and Lutsen in and talk to Rice Lake in Eau Claire sort of on the cloud line to a little bit of Honey breaks in the cloud.   and then here in the Twin Cities little more than just partly cloudy skies in many cases. with time high pressure is going to build into the rest of the afternoon and start to scour these low clouds out that leave this to a cold overnight tonight and it's chilly is it has been here I don't know if this helps or not but we are not alone it has been very cold to the Great Lake States and into the Northeast over the past several months and it looks like that will continue at least over the next week. so high temperature forecast today only a few degrees milder than we are right now should get up to about 58 in the Twin Cities but note the wind North it 15 to 20 that will stick around all day today and that will make these temperatures feel a bit cooler particularly if you're in some of those cloudy or areas or at least in areas were clouds linger a bit later into the afternoon. overnight tonight I am pretty certain that we will get another frost advisory out across the region including the Twin Cities down to 36 that's my forecast low and so so far much of Hennepin in Ramsey County has escaped Frost this week, tonight I don't think that will be the case I think we will get frosted even here in the downtown areas and some twenties around from Hayward to Rice Lake end in Grand Rapids on Saturday which by the way will be mostly sunny in much of the area few high clouds to start the day early in the morning to the west and southwest but those clouds will thicken up with time as we go through the morning until while will be closer to 60 today in places like Worthington in Marshall tomorrow it'll be about 10 degrees cooler while a lot of the rest of the region will have a similar feeling today. tomorrow hours thickening up quickly from the Minnesota River Valley on South and West will start to see dark clouds fill in as we go through the mid-to-late afternoon and especially from the Minnesota River Valley South and West. now there's a chance there's some suggestion that this band of rain will be about fifty miles farther north east end of the evening Twin Cities metro particularly the Southwest Metro could see some rain showers. that's the less likely scenario right now but it is still possible but again bring umbrellas from Marshall to Mankato even though it's not coming up there probably until after dark tomorrow night. then quickly do showers go away Sunday morning we're sort of squeeze between two storm systems. one that could bring some rain showers once again during the day in the far south western and southern part of Minnesota and maybe some drizzle up around the North Shore or low clouds will build in through the day here in central Minnesota East Central Minnesota and Wisconsin. I think it's going to be more names of clouds and sun both weekend days chili only near 60 keep in mind are advertised climbing to near 70 in the next week or so and there's no sign of that in the short-term here Monday. Tuesday warming a little bit, Wednesday perhaps a rain shower and then Thursday and hopefully fingers crossed next Friday Saturday Sunday near 70. we have been seeing that kind of pop up in the extended forecast for the past couple of weekends and as we get closer it just goes away. I don't know if that will happen this time but it again at least the signs now or pointing toward a little bit of a warmer stretch. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Alcohol is such a touchy subject with people. People ask how to improve their fitness or lose weight or see better results, but when you tell them they should cut out the alcohol, they want nothing to do with you. Alcohol is a crutch, alcohol is a good time, alcohol is memories...or lack there of. Alcohol is part of most people's lives, but it can also hold a lot of people back in many ways. I'm not getting into alcohol addiction here, I'm just saying that if your goal is to lose weight or hit a certain PR in the gym or fit into a dress or whatever, than alcohol shouldn't be something you're consuming on a daily or weekly basis. Good, wholesome food is what you actually need. Protein, carbs, fat. Alcohol is not part of those needs. But we don't live in a world of just black and white. We live in a world where there are weddings and celebrations or get-togethers. So you have to pick your battles. You have to decide what your goals are and stick with them. And that may mean not having a glass of wine every single night after you get home or going out with your friends Friday-Saturday-Sunday. I speak only from experience here and cutting out alcohol for a good amount of time in order to compete at the CrossFit level. Nowadays, since I don't compete and I'm not trying to set PRs or lose weight, I'll have a drink once in a while if I'm out with friends or at a special event. I've learned that I can still have fun while out with drunk friends, not always, but a lot of the time. And I've learned that peer pressure is just insecurity from that person. If you have questions about certain kinds of alcohol, leave them below! I'll try my best to answer them! Just remember, alcohol is not NEEDED. It's meant for certain occasions, just like dessert. There ya go! Think about alcohol as dessert! To listen to last weeks episode, click here! Episode 2 Transcription: Juli Bauer: Hey guys! It’s Juli from PaleOMG here. I am talking to you from San Francisco today. Ye olde San Francisco. I had a very interesting flight in, so I’ll start from the beginning. I had just a normal boring Uber ride to the airport. I get to the airport, I got get breakfast at Root Down like I do every time when I’m at DIA, and then hop on the plane. Just normal, right? Cool. I decided to download the podcast Serial, because now I’m totes into podcasts now that I’ve released my first one. I get my headphones in, start listening to Serial, start listening about this murder, and all the ties, and then I start smelling a vinegar smell. I don’t think much of it; you know when you get on a plane and there’s f*cking nasty ass smells in there; like somebody opens McDonald’s, and it smells like someone is chewing on a shoe? Like a really f*cking nasty sneaker shoe? Well that’s what it was kind of like. I smelled this vinegar smell, didn’t think much of it. I was like, somebody’s having a Subway sandwich, or whatever. Go back to listening to my podcast, working on my blog, and I feel something hit my left elbow, and my elbows are on the arm rest. I don’t think anything of it, but I feel it again, so I look down and my left elbow, just imagine your arms on the arm rest; and someone’s foot is right there. And it’s not in a f*cking shoe. This person’s bare feet, with their calluses and their broken toenail, are just sitting there. They’re that; you guys, that’s where the vinegar smell came from. It was not a Subway sandwich; it was someone’s feet. I almost threw up in my seat. And I’m not a person who gags easily. There was gagging. There was gagging occurring after this. So whatever. I’m just leaning to the right side; luckily nobody was sitting to the right of me, so I just lean kind of over into that area. You know, it went away. He would pull his foot back, and then he would put it back up, and I could smell it. You guys, it was just the worst. So I just kept listening to my podcast, Serial; {laughs}. Like, my podcast. Like we’re totes cool now. Anyways.
