How the f**k did Lindsey Metselaar go from social media specialist (before social was cool) to founding her own podcast with over 1.2K ratings on Apple Podcasts and an Instagram following of 41.7K? Today we’re talking with Lindsey about her journey from being at the forefront of social media marketing and advertising to founding her own podcast and company. Lindsey graduated from Boston University in 2012. After that she began writing and creating content on staff for companies like Mass Appeal, Fever Labs, and GoButler. From there she founded her own social media management company. Today she is still running that same company, Lindsey's Lunchbox, along with a food blog @dontexpectsalads, and the wildly successful podcast, We Met At Acme. So how did Lindsey gain thousands of followers and get them to participate in her many successful polls? And why won’t Brené Brown get back to her about being on her show?
Lindsey Metselaar is a very busy individual. Between hosting the successful We Met at Acme podcast about millennial dating, running the food Instagram @DontExpectSalads with over 85,000 followers and doing social media management and consulting with her company Lindsey’s Lunchbox she’s always on the go. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Lindsey on my last day in New York City (this is the final episode from the trip) and we go all the way back to start this one off to when Lindsey was in college and grew the Stoner Girl Problems Twitter to over 30,000 followers. She then found her way to GoButler where she got the company 60,000 followers by one sponsored post. Off the back of her success there she launched her own company. In our conversation we chat the success of her podcast, her tips for social media, dating in the world of social media and so much more. If you’re a fan of We Met at Acme this is a great way to get to know the host a little bit more. Speaking of learning about the host, Lindsey asked me all of the my own questions in the Q&A so you get to know me a bit better as well. If you’ve never heard of We Met at Acme or Lindsey, I still think you should check this out. A proven force in the social media world, Lindsey brings a ton of value. Adam Michalski is focused on Partner Growth at Branch Metrics, a deep linking platform for mobile apps. Adam is an incredible entrepreneur based out of New York. After studying finance, Adam began a career in banking and started working with larger corporate clients. Through this experience, he began to understand business operations and financing. He then started to immerse himself in the local startup scene and taught himself more about tech startups. He launched a side project called DormChat. After growing it to 15 campuses and raising a seed round, Adam went in full time. One year later, he realized there was too much competition and made the difficult decision to shut it down. But mobile and startups were still a passion for Adam and he found his way onto the GoButler team as they had just closed a massive Series A round and were setting up operations in the US, where he became the Director of Business Development and Operations. Following his time with GoButler, Adam came across the opportunity to join the team at Branch Metrics in setting up an East Coast office in NY and help them continue to work with some of the biggest mobile companies out there. Adam joins us to explore the rapidly changing world of mobile, why messaging & bots were hot even years ago, and how the web & mobile are still evolving so quickly. Adam joins us to share his story, how he got into startups, what it was like launching and growing DormChat to seed stage, what he learned from joining and growing operations at GoButler through their Series A stage, what he’s now doing at Branch Metrics through Partner Growth and the launch of an East Coast office, why he’s so passionate about mobile, and much more!
This week on the show Atlas Genius walks us through a couple of their favorite tracks from the new album “Inanimate Objects.” Also, we talk to Brad Lomenick about his new book, and the cast discovers GoButler. EPISODE SPONSOR
