Send us a textFrom accidentally stealing the spotlight on David Letterman's show as a teenager to voicing beloved animated characters for two decades, James Urbaniak's acting journey reads like a masterclass in versatility and perseverance. In this wide-ranging conversation, Urbaniak reveals the unexpected path that took him from New Jersey community theater to New York's experimental off-off-Broadway scene in the late 1980s. With remarkable candor, he shares how challenging theatrical experiences—like performing a 75-minute solo monologue in "Tom Paine"—helped develop his craft before independent filmmaker Hal Hartley introduced him to the different demands of screen acting.Fans of Adult Swim's cult classic "The Venture Bros." will delight in Urbaniak's behind-the-scenes stories from his 20-year tenure voicing Dr. Rusty Venture and other characters. He recounts the surreal experience of having a makeup artist on the set of an HBO film tell him she was more excited to meet the voice of Dr. Venture than Al Pacino himself—a testament to the profound connection voice actors can forge with audiences.Urbaniak's philosophy of acting—describing himself as "a skeptic who likes to be surprised"—offers valuable insight into navigating the entertainment industry's inherent uncertainty. Whether discussing his brief but memorable appearance in Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer," his experience playing Robert Crumb in "American Splendor," or his current work on Apple TV+'s "Palm Royale," Urbaniak demonstrates why character actors are often the secret ingredient that elevates productions across all media. For aspiring actors, film buffs, animation fans, or anyone fascinated by the creative process, this conversation provides a rare glimpse into the life of a working actor who has successfully built a diverse career by embracing opportunities across multiple entertainment platforms.Support the show

Lorrie also opens up about her experiences with imposter syndrome, the importance of trusting herself, and how she's found purpose in helping others heal through therapy. Plus, she teases her upcoming projects, including a sweet romance novel and a nonfiction book about people's dreams. Why do so many women feel a powerful craving for surrender in the bedroom but hold themselves back? How do modern ideals shape our desires and fears in intimate dynamics? In this episode, I dive deep into the often taboo topic of domination and submission in sexuality, exploring how contrary to a common opinion, these dynamics can lead to profound bliss, healing, and self-intimacy. I talk about the conflict many women feel when considering the desire for surrender, the pressures of modern feminist ideals, and the misconceptions around submission. This episode reveals how true domination and submission transcend stereotypes through insightful examples and wisdom from experts like Kasia Urbaniak, offering a transformative way for women to connect deeply with their own desires. In this episode: The taboo and craving for surrender in the bedroom: why so many women desire it yet hesitate. How feminist ideals can create inner conflict. Breaking down stereotypes and misconceptions. The importance of safety and trust in dominant-submissive dynamics. How submission invites profound intimacy and self-connection for women. The difference between toxic power dynamics and consensual, healing experiences. Dominant's focus outward and submissive's focus inward. Recognizing dominance and submission beyond the bedroom. Może pora odchrzanić się od siebie? I spojrzeć na siebie ze współczuciem (nie z litością!). To chroni, a przy tym może dawać moc: współczucie i samowspółczucie mają tę dwoistą naturę. Political science professor Tom Urbaniak has his say on what's going on with the Premier and the Speaker, Cape Breton MLA Keith Bain.
A very talented, versatile, and witty performer with more than 150 credit listings on IMDb, as an actor, James Urbaniak has brought to life Dr. Venture on Adult Swim's The Venture Brothers, the scene-stealing Arthur (who was my favorite character) on Hulu's Difficult People, and Grant on Comedy Central's Review. Additionally, he's also a podcaster in his own right and the creator of the scripted shows Getting On With James Urbaniak, A Night Called Tomorrow, and I Will Never Lie to You.Returning for the first time since our fascinating and very fun Charles Laughton episode late last season where he gave me a crash course in the '30s era of the great British actor, it was so great to have him back this time to discuss a character actress of a different decade. In this, our 150th episode of Watch With Jen (yes, really!), we take a look at a woman who is synonymous with the 1970s, in the form of Faye Dunaway.Focusing on her tremendous turns in notable classics, we begin in the late '60s with Dunaway's breakout turn in Bonnie and Clyde, then move into the '70s with Chinatown, Three Days of the Condor, and Network, and finally wrap things up with the controversial Mommie Dearest in the early '80s, which she considers the end of an era. An engaging and research-filled episode full of great Urbaniak witticisms and observations, devotees of Dunaway, acting, and/or '70s cinema lovers won't want to miss this conversation.Theme Music: Solo Acoustic Guitar by Jason Shaw, Free Music ArchiveLogo: Kate Gabrielle (KateGabrielle.com)Originally Posted on Patreon (7/28/22) here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/69704390
When we face scary situations in life, it's easy to wonder if our faith—especially the amount of faith we have—makes a difference. But is it healthy to quantify faith, to think If I just had more faith, my problem would go away! Though tempting, that line of thought doesn't square with the faith-filled greats all throughout history who followed God despite the fear and uncertainty of their experiences. They practice what the poet John O'Donohue argues we must learn: to "Hold nothing back [and] learn to find ease in risk." God's grace can empower and sustain our faith, too, just like Abraham's, Rahab's, and David's. Our guests this week are Janine Urbaniak Reid and Megan Smalley. Both tell stories of faith in the crucible, of being pushed to their breaking points only to find God's grace remaining alongside the fear, suffering, joys, and the triumphs. God's grace powered Janine through her son Mason's cancer battle and Megan through an arduous journey to reach her dream of having children. And the plans would go according to what I thought was acceptable. But it's a place of miracles, too.” - Janine Urbaniak Reid “Sometimes we have to push past our self-imposed limits. But there's a time when crisis goes too deep and long that we just have to take care of ourselves.” - Janine Urbaniak Reid “The point was never to be a perfect mom. The point was always to just be a human mom and love these people through it all.” - Janine Urbaniak Reid “There are some things that we walk through that are earth-shattering that we did not choose and we would never choose. And it is so hard…God doesn't promise us an easy life. He promises us hard things. And we have to figure out how to walk through those hard things. And then when we get to the other side, how to look back and recognize what God did and how He brought you through it.” - Megan Smalley “A lot of times in the season of grief, it's hard to find the words. I can't even tell you how many times I prayed for a baby. And it's like, Okay, God, I don't have any more words.” - Megan Smalley “I think when you can step outside of yourself and serve somebody else, it gives you a very healthy perspective.” - Megan Smalley “I think it's a learned skill to focus on what Grace is and then learn how to accept it and apply it in your life.” - Megan Smalley ________________________ Enjoy watching these additional videos from Jesus Calling YouTube channel: Audio Playlist: https://bit.ly/2PrbuwH Video Playlist: https://bit.ly/2PsmEkJ What's Good? Join us as we discuss historic inscriptions, ghost signs, rock art, DStretch, petroglyphs and pictographs. During the 19th and 20th centuries, emigrants on the Northern Plains engaged in a communication behavior that left messages carved, incised, and painted onto the physical landscape. Often mingling with indigenous pictographs and petroglyphs, the emigrants' messages are called "historic inscriptions" and exist in the form of names, dates, text, and ideographs. Historic inscriptions relay information on identity and cultural value and are a new way of interpreting how people reacted to the landscape of the 18th, 19th, and 20th century west. Tim Urbaniak is a Professor Emeritus at Montana State University (MSU-Billings). Join us for this fascinating conversation!
