Graeme Park is a legendary DJ and one of the founders of the UK's house music movement. Best known for his nine-year residency at Manchester's iconic superclub, The Hacienda, Graeme's journey into DJing was far from planned. In fact, he stumbled into it almost by accident. However, his passion for sharing the music he loved had a huge impact on the dance scene of the 80s and 90s, influencing a generation of club-goers, including sixteen year old James O'Brien.Today, Graeme continues to perform to fans old and new around the world. He also DJs alongside the Manchester Camerata Orchestra as part of the Hacienda Classical shows, which have been touring the UK since 2016 and even opened the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury in 2017.You can find out more details about Graeme's upcoming gigs on thisisgraemepark.com

“You can have such a laugh with Manchester artists” Yvonne Shelton's musical career is as rich and varied as the city itself. Her voice has echoed through the city's vibrant music scene for the past 40 years. She has performed as a backing singer for global stars, provided vocals for some of Manchester's best-known artists and sang centre stage as part of the much-loved Hacienda Classical. Yvonne's journey is a melody of resilience, community, and is a testament to the city's nurturing soul and its knack for producing enduring talent. You'll hear about the supportive network of artists in Manchester that Yvonne is a part of and how you create connections that can lift people up.Host Lisa Morton learns about the challenges of racism and sexism in the music industry, and the unyielding spirit that propels artists like Yvonne to keep their heads to the sky. ------Your host, Lisa Morton, started PR company Roland Dransfield in 1996, one month after the fateful IRA bomb that tore apart the city centre. From that point, the business, and its team members, have been involved in helping to support the creation of Modern Manchester – across regeneration, business, charity, leisure and hospitality, sport and culture. To celebrate the 26 years that Roland Dransfield has spent creating these bonds, Lisa is gathering together some of her Greater Mancunian ‘family' and will be exploring how they have created their own purposeful relationships with the best place in the world.Connect with Lisa and Roland Dransfield: Via our websiteOn InstagramOn X FKA TwitterOn Spotify

Remix & Recombine: How to put things together to make something new, with Graeme Park

In this episode of Future Proof Your Career we're looking at recombination: how to bring old things together to make something new. To help us to get our heads around mixing and remixing, we have a real expert in the studio today. Graeme Park has been one of the biggest names in the house music scene since the late 1980s. Well known for his residency at the Hacienda and long stints on a number of major radio stations, Graeme remixed tracks by the likes of Brand New Heavies, New Order, Eric B & Rakim, and Sophie Ellis-Bextor.  Graeme has most recently been one of the founding forces behind Hacienda Classical, bringing together classic dance tunes with a full live orchestra. He has even found himself behind the microphone, going back to his musician roots. Here's what we learned from Graeme: Remixing is a creative art! Just because you're working with existing components, it doesn't mean this isn't real innovation. Recombining things can fulfill that creative urge.Seperate the technical skills required to remix something from the relevant domain knowledge. You may only have one or the other. For example, you might understand the business processes you're working with, or the industry sector. But you might not know the technology or have the political clout to build something new. Partner with someone who does.Play with your tools and components. Get to know the things that are at your disposal. What can you draw on in terms of resources: people, data, partners, platforms? And what can you use to stick them together? Software, systems, or just a telephone and some bits of paper?Agility: respond to what the audience wants. Don't set out with a singular vision and keep pursuing it without showing it to anyone. Get it out there early and change direction based on feedback.Collaborate. Bring in different ideas, perspectives and skill sets. You don't want design by committee but you're more likely to succeed with two heads than one.

'I started as a sound engineer because I wasn't a very good musician' - Matt Jones In a first for the show, with full video on Youtube, Gareth talks to vastly experienced sound engineer and tour manager, Matt Jones. This is the first time we've had a crew member rather than performer as a guest, and Matt certainly has some interesting tales to tell, including when ended up at the last minute doing the front of house sound for the legendary James Brown, his time working for US-based Rock Band Pixies and how that came about, and many more. He has also worked with a 'who’s who' of music icons including Radiohead, Sister Sledge, Dionne Warwick, Katherine Jenkins, Will Young and many more alongside his ‘day’ job working on Monitors for Pixies.  They also discuss the Joy Division Orchestrated and Hacienda Classical projects which Matt played a huge role in project managing, the differences in managing people in corporate and music environments, how Matt got started in the industry, and the 'green shoots' he's saying for a return to work for an industry badly damaged by Covid-19. The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Peter Hook of Joy Division and New Order. Packed with outrageous anecdotes and the “gleefully profane” (Entertainment Weekly) storytelling of his first two books, SUBSTANCE is a no-holds barred, comprehensive history of New Order that will more than satisfy Hook's fans and thrill new readers.   At once a raw and revealing memoir, SUBSTANCE is also a compelling snapshot of the era that brings readers backstage to the 80s music scene in all its now nostalgic glory.  I've included a longer description below, and just let me know if you'd like another galley or more information.   Peter Hook was born in Salford in 1956. He was a founding member of Joy Division and New Order and DJs internationally as well as touring both bands' music with his band Peter Hook & The Light.  He also promotes The Hacienda and recent Hacienda Classical concerts all around the world.  Peter now lives in Cheshire with his wife Rebecca and children Heather, Jack and Jessica and Bo, their dog.    .
