Joining us today is a singer and songwriter who's gone from living paycheck to paycheck while posting cover videos online to Eurovison success and playing Wembley alongside bona fide rock legends. It's the joyous Sam Ryder!Ahead of the release of his sophomore album and headline show at Wembley Arena, he talks about how he survived on “crumbs of comfort” from his early days in the music scene while struggling through difficult jobs. Consistently doing things for the right reasons was eventually rewarded as he graduated from doing weddings - something he still loves - to playing stadiums, his Glastonbury debut and celebrated performances around the world. Despite the success, Sam remains the same humble, joyous soul he was before the deserved accolades that have come his way in recent years.Fill out Stak's listener survey here to have a chance at winning a PS5! What are the key components of a good gig?Off the back of the Oasis tour starting and Fontaines D.C. performing to their biggest audience ever, Annie and Nick discuss the ways we can all create a fun concert atmosphere – and all the things we shouldn't do. Elsewhere, as if performing at Glastonbury wasn't enough, PinkPantheress recently won a Chess Grand Slam in Bromley and she's not the only overachiever in the music world, all seven members of BTS are almost finished National Service and they're coming straight back to K-pop. Plus, Annie and Nick are preparing for the event of the summer, Ian's birthday party, and one story has Nick comparing the mystery of a 316-year-old violin to a Jane McDonald TV show.SONGS Danny L Harle and PinkPantheress – Starlight PinkPantheress – Illegal Underworld – Dark and Long Oasis - Wonderwall Stevie Wonder - AsALBUMStevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of LifeOTHER Longitude FestivalSidetracked Live from Glastonbury: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0lkz02p Mary Anne Hobbs - Black Sabbath show: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002f7c8Get in touch with Annie and Nick! Fragmentation special! It's all kicking off on the right and the left. Are our panic-stricken political classes talking Britain into a Farage premiership just by making it sound inevitable? A 40th anniversary special with two of its presenters (Hepworth and Ellen) and old pal and TV critic Boyd Hilton who watched on the day aged 18 (“young, pretentious, idiotic”) and reviews the new BBC documentary. In this episode of The Creative Boom Podcast, Katy Cowan is joined by Fiona McGarva, founder of Sundae Communications and longtime collaborator with Shangri-La at Glastonbury Festival. They explore how Fiona and the team have completely reimagined how they communicate with audiences—ditching traditional social media announcements in favour of handmade risograph posters, seed packets, and direct, analogue experiences that celebrate slowness and real-world connection. Fiona shares how Shangri-La's new theme, 'The Wilding', is more than just a creative direction—it's a complete reset, inviting us all to consider how we share stories, connect with people, and move away from platforms we don't truly own. The conversation is a refreshing and empowering reminder that creativity can flourish in new ways, especially when we embrace age, messiness, and the freedom to do things differently. Together, Katy and Fiona reflect on their careers in PR, the shifts they've seen across media and design, and the joy of doing things on your own terms. Expect nostalgia, a few Pedro Pascal tangents, and plenty of wisdom on everything from personal growth to rediscovering magic in our work and lives. This season is proudly sponsored by the School of Communication Arts.
Music has always been a powerful form of protest, but rap band Bob Vylan could be facing criminal charges after leading a chant at Glastonbury calling for ‘death' to the Israeli military. The incident was shown on the BBC and the broadcaster, festival organisers and the UK Prime Minister have all raised concerns about anti-Semitism. Today, British music journalist Dorian Lynskey on the controversy and when protests by musicians go too far. Featured: Dorian Lynskey, British music journalist, author and podcaster

Many, many, many… (enough) moons ago, when Eddie presented and Harry was just an occassional guest the Celtic podcast world had few places to get your fan chat but like the famous Christmas truce of 1914, Eddie & The Homebhoys took their ball out onto no-mans land and provided a CU/Homebhoys crossover. These bevy filled pods slipped off into distant memories and were replaced by the siloed listening habits of the Celtic faithful through the explosion of fan podcasts more numerous than managers of other Glasgow clubs. Would we see the likes of the Homebhoys/CU collabs? Could we once again see two pods extend a hand of frienship across the wire?Yes we bloody well can! Hurrahh you all shout! The Huddlebreakdown extended that hand of friendship and we yanked (I said YANKED) them out of the trench, slapped down the jumpers for goalposts, sifted through our sack of cliches to say “come on over to our place, we're having a party!”This is part 1 of a two our podcast special with Alan, Juco James, Eddie Pearson, Ross Hall, Harry Brady (and guest starring Andrew H) to discuss ALL the hot topics of the moment. Nuacht Mhall. Príomhscéalta na seachtaine, léite go mall.*Inniu an cúigiú lá de mhí Iúil. Is mise Sibéal Dempsey.Bhí féile Glastonbury ar siúl an deireadh seachtaine seo caite agus bhí conspóid ann don BBC dá bharr. Cé gur shocraigh an BBC roimh ré gan leagan beo de sheó Kneecap, an grúparapcheoil Éireannach, a thaispeáint, bhí conspóid ann faoi ghrúpa eile, Bob Vylan. Chan amhránaí na beirte “bás don IDF” agus é ar an stáitse, agus cé gur cuireadh stiúrthóirginearálta an BBC ar an eolas ag an am, leanadh leis an léiriú a chraoladh. Chuir Bob Vylan ráiteas amach níos déanaí nach raibh siad “i bhfabhar bás Giúdach, Arabach ná aon chine nó grúpa eile. Táimid i bhfabhar díchóimeáil meaisín míleata foréigneach”. Níl an léiriú curtha ar fáil ar aon cheann de sheirbhísí ar éileamh an BBC agus tá na póilíní ag fiosrú anois é mar eachtra ord poiblí.Tá “bille mór, álainn” Trump rite ag an Seanad, agus dúirt Trump gur “ceol dá chluasa” a bhí ann. Chuaigh triúr as caoga a trí Poblachtánach an tSeanaid i gcomhar leis na Daonlathaigh chun vótáil i gcoinne an phacáiste, a ritheadh caoga a haon-caoga tar éis don leas-uachtarán JD Vance an vóta comhscór a chaitheamh. Deirtear go dtacaíonn an bille le lucht an airgid trí laghduithe cánach, go maoineoidh sé an balla teorann, agus go méadóidh sé easnamh na Stát Aontaithe go trí thrilliún dollar sula dtiocfaidh deireadh le téarma Trump. Áirítear leis freisin laghduithe suntasacha maoinithe ar dhá chlár líontán sábhála: Medicaid, a sholáthraíonn cúram sláinte do Mheiriceánaigh bhochta agus faoi mhíchumas, agus an Clár Cúnaimh Cothú Forlíontach, a chabhraíonn le daoine earraí grósaera a íoc. Caithfear an bille a rith i dTeach na nIonadaithe anois, agus roinnt Poblachtánach sa seomra sin ag rá cheana féin nach dtacaíonn siad leis an leagan reatha.Tá tonn teasa ollmhór ag scaipeadh ar fud na hEorpa agus teochtaí níos airde ná mar a taifeadadh roimhe seo i roinnt tíortha, lena n-áirítear an Spáinn agus an Phortaingéil. Shroich teochtaí daichead a sé pointe a sé celcius i gcuid den Phortaingéil, an teocht is airde riamh i mí an Mheithimh sa tír. Bhí tionchar mór ag na teochtaí, lena n-áirítear roinnt daoine ag fáil bháis, scoileanna ag dúnadh, agus srianta á gcur ar obair lasmuigh. Nascann saineolaithe minicíocht agus déine na dtonnta teasa seo le hathrú aeráide, agus iad ag tabhairt rabhadh go bhfuil siad ag éirí níos coitianta.*Léirithe ag Conradh na Gaeilge i Londain. Glastonbury is a music festival in the UK held every year with a turnout of around 200,000 people. After the festival was held last week, one particular clip has been subject to huge amounts of criticism and scrutiny because of it’s clear antisemitism and incitement to violence.

This week: Trump drops the F-Bomb, Lammy drops another clanger, and money saving expert Martin Lewis drops into NATO.Cast: Jan Ravens, Jon Culshaw, Lewis Macleod, Jess Robinson, Duncan Wisbey and Kieran Hodgson. The episode was written by: Nev Fountain and Tom Jamieson, Laurence Howarth, Tom Coles, Sophie Dickson, Toussaint Douglas, Peter Tellouche, Rob Darke, Edward Tew, Jon Holmes, Alice Bright, Katie Sayer, Davina Bentley, Rachel E Thorn, Chris Ballard and Pete RedfernCreated by Bill Dare Producer: Jon Holmes Executive Producer: Pete Strauss Production Co-ordinator: Caroline Barlow
Steven and Ian open with a quick conversation about fireworks and fireworks-adjacent emo music. Then they dive into the outcry from Lorde fans about the faulty "transparent" CD edition of her latest album, Virgin (3:36). Steven is excited to see CD discourse go mainstream, though he worries that this bad publicity might turn people off to the format. After that, they discuss the AI band The Velvet Sundown, which has already racked up 500,000 monthly listeners on Spotify in just a few weeks (11:02). They also talk about the recent Glastonbury Festival and speculate on why European music festivals look so much more fun than American ones (22:11). What better way for Labour to celebrate a year in power than with a humiliating climbdown on welfare? Political historian Steven Fielding joins the panel to discuss rebellions, “Austerity PSD”, and how Starmer and Reeves can make Year Two better than Year One. Plus, after the anti-IDF rants by punk band Bob Vylan at Glastonbury, has the festival really become the antisemitic “hatefest” its critics claim? Unlike most of them, our own Andrew Harrison was actually there… And in the Extra Bit for Patreon supporters, is far-right ideologue Matthew Goodwin serious when he says he wants to be Reform UK's Home Secretary, or just waffling to sell his Substack? • Listen to Why? with Emma Kennedy: Could we make a real Jurassic Park? TODAY: The BBC refuses to broadcast Kneecap's Glastonbury set... and instead gets hit with the old "Death to the IDF" by noise rap band Bob Vylan We discuss the band's statements, their music, the Glastonbury festival, and most importantly, what average BBC viewers are saying. Is it antisemtic to oppose a military killing thousands of women and children? Either way is it distasteful to drag politics into music? Will zionists ever be able to stop the wave of anti-Israel sentiment sweeping the globe? Nish's inappropriate occurrences report at Glastonbury is in: there were people kissing, some people had their butts out and nobody seemed to be slapping on the SPF - all very inappropriate. But this isn't what the right-wing press or the government has taken issue with… You've heard it already - the controversy around Kneecap and Bob Vylan's sets engulfed the political discourse over the festival weekend. But is the controversy the real story here? Nish and Coco shine a light on some of what was REALLY said at Glastonbury and question why those messages didn't receive as much airtime. Later, as the government recovers from the brink of political crisis and the Chancellor's position is drawn into question, Nish and Coco are joined by journalist and author Frances Ryan to discuss the u-turns on u-turns that led to the government's welfare bill passing. But the battle isn't over yet. Finally, Men's health in the UK is in a sorry place. Nish is joined by Movember's Dr Zac Seidler to discuss the government's upcoming Men's Health Strategy and why young men are being sucked into the manosphere. At Glastonbury 2025, British punk-rap duo Bob Vylan, consisting of frontman Bobby Vylan and drummer Bobbie Vylan, performed a politically charged set on the West Holts Stage on June 28. During the performance, Bobby Vylan led the crowd in chants of "Free, free Palestine" and "Death, death to the IDF" (Israel Defense Forces), while displaying a screen message labeling Israel's actions in Gaza as a "genocide." The set, broadcast live on BBC iPlayer, sparked widespread controversy, with Glastonbury organizers and Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemning the chants as "appalling hate speech." Plus segments on the DOJ executes largest healthcare Fraud takedown and Trumps new WEF plan to end Gaza war in two weeks. Also featuring Kurt Metzger and Stef Zamorano
