Katherine Jenkins is a Welsh mezzo-soprano classical singer from Neath. She won Welsh Choirgirl of the Year aged 10, and became more widely known when she sang at Westminster Cathedral in 2003 to mark the Pope's silver jubilee. Since then she has released numerous classical and classical crossover albums. When we met last week Katherine was heading to the studio to work on a new album. She continues to write, record and perform concerts all over the world. She has two children: Aaliyah aged 9 and Xander aged 6. She told me how she tries to keep them grounded, and enjoys Friday night dance parties with them. Now that sounds familiar!Katherine spoke movingly about losing her Dad aged 15 and how she still has a word with him to this day, just before any performance. We also spoke, singer to singer, about how we look after our voices. Katherine has 24 hour voice rest before any performance. I definitely need to up my game. Although, I'm not actually sure I could stop talking for 24 minutes, let alone 24 hours! Spinning Plates is presented by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, produced by Claire Jones and post-production by Richard Jones. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

When Plácido Domingo, José Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti teamed up for their first joint performance on 7th July, 1990 in Rome, it was intended as a one-off collaboration to celebrate the FIFA World Cup.  But the concert triggered instant worldwide fame for the trio, who became known as The Three Tenors, and their live recording became the biggest-selling classical album of all time. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly consider how, by mixing showtunes with opera, the Tenors created the ‘classical crossover' genre that spawned Russell Watson, Il Divo and Katherine Jenkins; explain how Carreras' recovery from leukemia was the reason for the concert coming together; and reveal how their iconic Nessun Dorma encore was nearly not included at all… Further Reading: • ‘TENORS, ANYONE? Paul chats with Collabro ahead of their new single with Sir Cliff Richard Mistletoe and WineSingle Release Date – 26th November 2021 “I'm finding it hard to believe that it has been 33 years since I first released Mistletoe and Wine. I am really thrilled with this newly recorded version with the Collabro boys. I love their harmonies and it was a pleasure to sing with them, and if this new version gets everyone into the Christmas Spirit we will be very happy!!” – Sir Cliff Richard Following a hugely successful tour as special guests to Sir Cliff Richard in 2017, Collabro and Sir Cliff have become close friends in the industry and have supported each other, including Sir Cliff joining an intimate gig where Collabro performed at Pizza Express Holborn and Collabro performing at the Royal Albert Hall to celebrate Sir Cliffs 60 years in the music business.  Whilst Collabro were recording their Christmas album “Christmas Is Here” and Cliff was recording his “Music… The Air That I Breathe” album, they came up with the idea to re-record the festive Christmas classic “Mistletoe and Wine”, 33 years after its original release. The Collabro boys couldn't be more thankful for this opportunity and are endlessly grateful to Sir Cliff for his continued support. “It really is a dream come true and probably the most surreal thing we have ever done. This song was first released before any of us were born so we have literally heard it every Christmas our whole lives. Working with Sir Cliff has always been the most incredible experience and we really hope people enjoy this new version of the song.” Michael Auger Collabro Collabro are the World's Most Successful Musical Theatre Group. The boys met for their first rehearsal above a pub in London Bridge back in 2014. Soon after, they auditioned for ITV's Britain's Got Talent, and a month later received a full standing ovation from all four judges and the full audience at the Hammersmith Apollo. They went on to win the competition with one of the highest voting majorities of any series, and their debut album Stars went straight into the UK album charts at number one, was quickly certified gold, and became the fasting selling album of 2014. To this day, they are one of the most popular Got Talent winners ever.  Last year, Collabro released their album “Christmas Is Here” comprising of a range of festive classics and an original track, the titular 'Christmas Is Here', which saw them team up once again with Ben Adams from A1. After going from strength to strength with six top-selling albums, four sell-out UK tours, two US tours, headline slots at the London Palladium, Wembley Stadium, the O2 arena and the Royal Albert Hall, this summer saw COLLABRO performing at Tatton Park Pop Up Festival, In The Park with Katherine Jenkins, Sound On The Ground Blackpool, and performing with Alfie Boe at Trentham Live and are currently on their major headline Greatest Hits Tour. www.amysinha.com Born in South Wales, UK, Amy, the youngest of three sisters, was submerged in music from an early age. She entered her first talent contest aged six, singing “Somewhere over the Rainbow”, terrifying moments as she could barely reach the microphone. However, this also marked the beginning of her love of music and performance. Inspired by such a musical upbringing, Amy studied classical piano and singing, but also developed an intimate love affair with Jazz in her teens. A difficult and mature genre that touched Amy very deeply. Possibly because the complexity of this style reflected the events that were occurring in her life during the initial stages of her newfound developing passion. Amy experienced some rare medical conditions in her early years, being declared as being one out of only 5 children like her in the U.K at the time. She had developed cataracts in both her eyes leaving her almost blind, and then diagnosed with a rare nerve condition which meant she was unable to feel hot, cold or superficial pain. Due to this nerve condition, she also developed Osteoarthritis leaving her almost wheelchair bound and caused her growth to stop completely. The ongoing traumas of her early childhood inevitably played a major role in suppressing Amy's confidence throughout her life, especially being so short during an age when all a child wants to do is “fit in”, and certainly not stand out because they looked so different. In what Amy describes as a ‘lightbulb' moment surrounding her emotions, Amy attended Gorseinon College where she studied Music and Music Technology A-levels. Amy became coined with the description as “The Jazz Singer” and encouraged to pursue her love of Jazz more seriously, and where she also attended with fellow Classical singer, Katherine Jenkins. With the continuous support of her family and new found ‘tree' friends (A story she will most happily explain whenever asked
