On todays episode we're talking about the top hits from billboard 2002! What a great year for music! We go up to the top 20 and all but 3 of these songs pass the vibe check for us! Our favorite songs on this list include Usher's “You Got It Bad” and “You Don't Have To Call” along with “Hot in Herr” by Nelly we cannot get over these songs. They all live rent free in our head forever. Catch ANYONE saying “its hot in here” and we HAVE to reply and say “so take off all your clothes” Ludacris' “Move Bitch” also made the cut and we say MOVE BITCH everyday of our lives! Billboard magazine has been around for over 100 years beginning in 1894. Of course years and time changed the magazine as it changed hands many times since its beginning. After one of the original founders William Donaldson died in 1952 the entertainment magazine went to his children and his co founder's James Hennegan's children; they held it until sold to private investors in 1985. This is where my "Gospel" charting research landed to April 6, 1985 where a "Top SPIRITUAL Albums" chart yielded the top 40 albums by Black/African American artists were listed. This show not only highlights the Top 10, but includes short clips of songs found on the albums. With the number 1 Top Spiritual Album by Vanessa Bell Armstrong entitled Chosen. You will also find an album which shown to have been on the charts for 97 weeks! Hope you enjoy this show. Please leave comments and subscribe to get the latest episode update notification. It was recorded at American Sound Studio in Memphis during 2 Recording sessions Jan 13th to the 23rd and Feb 17th to the 22nd 1969Elvis was riding on the crest of a wave at this time after the immense success of his TV Special that had aired the previous month on NBC and it has since been given the title “Comeback Special” after him spending 7 years in Hollywood making mediocre movies and recording substandard songs for the soundtrack albums.Typically the sessions began at around 7pm and concluded at 5am the following morning as Elvis preferred to record during those hours. From Elvis in Memphis was released in June 1969. The album topped the UK Albums Chart. In the United States, it reached number thirteen on Billboard's Top 100 LP's. By January 28, 1970, the album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America after selling over 500,000 copiesIn 2003, the album was listed at number 190 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
This week I chat with Sons Of Daughters. They have a new single "I Picture You" out now. We talk about where they were musically, strange jobs the've had, and what food they NEED to have when coming back to Canada. www.sonsofdaughters.com The track is an impactful ballad with a catchy, pop-meets-country vibe. Drawing from personal experiences, the song evokes nostalgic feelings of happiness and longing when reflecting on fond memories of a loved one.“We wanted to capture the timeless and heartfelt notion of “the one who got away””, said Chrystal Leigh and Jimmy Thow. “Sometimes you lose touch with people you were once close with and every so often you catch yourself thinking about them. This song is the answer to the universal question: I wonder if they ever think of me?”Thow and Leigh co-wrote the track alongside Gavin Slate and Travis “T-Buck” Wood in Nashville. It was co-produced by Thow and Grammy and CMA nominated producer Brad Hill (Maren Morris, Brothers Osborne). The single comes on the heels of the duo’s debut EP “Love In A Bar”, a compilation of six unique tracks, which has amassed more than 2 million streams worldwide since its release in July 2019. The group found success with their first single "Ain't Gonna be Lonely Long", which reached Billboard's Top 15, and peaked at #12 at Canadian country radio.2019 proved to be a successful year for Sons of Daughters. The duo was nominated for the Rising Star Award at the 2019 CCMA Awards in Calgary and were finalists in the 2019 SiriusXM Top of the Country competition. Thow continues to make a name for himself as a skilled songwriter, co-writing Tebey’s smash hit “Good Jeans” which reached #2 at Canadian country radio.Fans

This week, my good friend and fellow guitarist Josh Guardado (formerly of several successful El Paso based bands and most recently: Runner's High) and I are back at Radio Coffee & Beer Bar for a discussion on one of our common guilty (or maybe not so guilty pleasures) of: Pop Music! Not only do we cover some of Billboards Top 40 but start off with Josh's pick: the Japanese Pop Band, The Pillows. If there's one thing Josh and I agree on, it's that Pop music elevates the soul, releases your fears, and shines bright (like a diamond) even if for 3 minutes and 40 seconds at a time. Both lovers of the Top 40 Billboard Charts on a Karaoke night, we lean into & discuss pretty intricate perspectives on what Pop music is to us, and how marketing/the industry play it's part. I hope you all tune in and enjoy, this was a great one with some fun segments!

Music is everywhere and is everything. It is also alive! Music has been the one constant social and emotional thing that drops us to our knees, put us on our feet, have us cry out in pain and even shout to the top of our lungs with joy. It has brought us together in victories and defeats, consoled us in dying times and joined us together in holy matrimonies. ”Remember a song and you will remember a place and time in your life”. That is a quote from music's soul stirrer, R&B singer/songwriter K'Jon. He will forever be linked to many people for his hit song, “On The Ocean”, which gave him a #1 song on the radio for six weeks straight. Amazingly, his last album ”I Get Around” also debuted at #1 on the Hip Hop/R&B album charts and later made Billboards Top 50 R&B/Hip Hop Album of 2009! The album was so well received by audiences nationwide that K'Jon was nominated for the Best New Artist category at the 2010 NAACP Image Awards. Bio from K' Jon Official website.
