In Series 3 of School Assembly we've been following Dan McShea, Foundation Principal of Notre Dame College on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. The P-12 college opens for the new school year in early 2025 – so it's almost time for the keys to be handed over. In this episode we're talking about the school building, landscaping and outdoor spaces. Host: Jo Earp Guest: Dan McShea
In Series 15, we have picked our Guest based on the date when his or her feast day is celebrated (annually) according to the Catholic liturgical calendar. Mechthild's feast day is November 19th. She began a poem in this way: Ah blessed absence of God,How lovingly I am bound to you!You strengthen my will in its painAnd make dear to meThe long hard wait in my poor body. She, and in a way similar to Julian of Norwich (who was a Guest at The Night School in the Fall of 2018), Mechthild received a series of “revelations”, a series of intense experiences of God that profoundly deepened and recentered her life. Her effort to express what she saw and understood became a work that took her fourteen years to write, which she called The Flowing Light of the Godhead. About this one of the greatest living scholars of her thought has the following to say.Margot Schmidt writes - “Rather, it [this book] is the expression of a basic human drive that comes to the surface, sometimes more, sometimes less. To these basic human drives we can reckon hunger, love, sex, and a yearning for God. This last-mentioned drive appears to have been so smothered by the others that today we scarcely still perceive it as a basic drive. And yet, the testimony of the mystics teaches us that the human person in its capacity for God (capax Dei) soars above all other recognized drives and surpasses them in a marvelous and terrifying way, once we have been awakened by the spark of God's spirit or God's love. In the face of this bursting forth of a passion for God, everything else suddenly retreats. An important characteristic of this passion for God is that it irrevocably prevents us from falling back into an all too vapid and tame existence. In essence Mechthild of Magdeburg's book, The Flowing Light of the Godhead, is nothing other than the moving story of God's heart and the human heart, and of Lucifer's cunning attempts to interfere with the ties that join them.” [Margot Schmidt, “Preface,” in Mechthild of Magdeburg: The Flowing Light of the Godhead, ed. Bernard McGinn, trans. Frank Tobin, The Classics of Western Spirituality (New York; Mahwah, NJ: Paulist Press, 1998), xxv-xxvi.

I look briefly at what was happening in Scotland at the time - all of these aspects helped to make Robert into the man we know today. Unfortunately there are no songs or poems in this episode. Hello Anybody reading this. This podcast is regarding some stories as reported in the Society of Physical Research (SPR) records for 1923. The SPR tended not to report on ghost type stories at this time which were considered old fashioned. World War 1 had ended in 1918 and this resulted in many unexplained stories. Here are a few as recorded in Proceedings and the Journal of the SPR in 1923.I would like to say that I am aware that there have been issues regarding sound quality of these podcasts and I am working on solutions for the start of Series 7 starting in early December 2023. Meanwhile, I intend to post one podcast on 15 November 2023 to end Series 6.In Series 7, I will finish the series on the Kray crime gang. I will not focus on the twins but on those characters in their gang. I also want to focus on cryptozoology and other strange stories and of course obscure true crime.www.strangestoriesuk.gmail.com

We hear from a legendary business builder about how he closes the deal while a hedge fund manager shares the humbling effect of market downturns. A CIO reveals her ups and downs and the importance of learning to take risk and having a backup plan, while a serial builder of banks and financial institutions who started her career decades ago tells us what has changed, and what has not and sharpens the focus on what kind of mentors really matter An angel investing expert tells us about the school he has formed to bring angel investors to the table and fill the gaps in their expertise while a guest who studied “game theory” at Uni of Berkeley during the Flower Power era relates it to risk taking and asset allocation and he offers up an antidote to AI, the value of humans in interpreting information. An emerging market debt specialist learned quickly that taking a position was important, while a private wealth manager describes what drives her. Finally we examine the biases inherent in the work we do and ask why to start with the “who” and we even hear from a real life Ted Lasso about the his commitment to a League 2 football team, and how seeing an underdog thrive is the passion that drives him. So tune in every Tuesday and Thursday from June 27 through early August where we will release a new episode of the series twice a week. In Series 1 we're following Principal Dr Ray Boyd and Associate Principal Rachael Lehr as they navigate the exciting and challenging journey. Each month, we touch base for updates and reflections on their progress in the newly developing suburb of Dayton, located in the eastern metropolitan city of Swan in Perth, Western Australia. It's been a big start to the month for the team with the official opening of the school. Congratulations to everyone involved on that massive milestone for the community. Our focus for this episode of School Assembly is educational research and reading, and how this evidence base is the foundation for everything that's happening at the school, from classroom teaching to leadership. A heads-up on terminology – when talking about keeping up to date with research, Ray mentions WAPPA (that's the Western Australian Primary Principals' Association) and ACEL (that's the Australian Council for Educational Leaders). In Series 3 of the Fiftyfaces Podcast we start to dig deep – into sustainability standards, fintech, what impact actually means, and bust myths around hybrid working, the great resignation and entrepreneurship. We ask whether we are using the right terminology - especially with respect to the vexed topic of ESG - and as whether private wealth is serving the diverse client base appropriately. We look at fintech advances as well as changes in privacy and what it will mean in terms of our personal choices. An executive search expert dissects the impact of the shift to hybrid working and the changes that she sees in the hiring landscape, while a policy expert shares what it is like to work with some of the luminaries of finance. The guests on Series 3 are: Robert Eccles who describes himself – in a nutshell – as a dedicated weightlifter, capital markets activist and professional committed to improving corporate reporting and enhancing ESG integration by companies and investors. Marah Curtin who describes herself as a “catalyst on a mission to promote the empowerment of women and the next generation, financially or otherwise”.
