BBC golf correspondent Iain Carter and commentator Katherine Downes look at the extraordinary life and career of one of the greatest players in Open Championship history – Tiger Woods. Iain travels to Adare Manor in Ireland to talk to the man himself about what The Open means to him as he prepares for the 150th Championship at St Andrews. You'll hear at length from Steve Williams, his former caddie who was on the bag for Woods for 13 of his 15 major wins, on how they spoke daily about trying to beat Jack Nicklaus' all-time record of 18 major victories. We look back on some of his greatest achievements - from winning four consecutive majors in 2000 and 2001 to earn the “Tiger slam”, being crowned US Open champion at Torrey Pines in 2008 with a broken leg, his unlikely “redemption” win at The Masters in 2019 and of course, lifting three Claret Jugs in sensational style. The Golf Channel's Jaime Diaz was one of the first journalists to get to know Tiger Woods at the age of 14. He joins the pod to talk about how he developed into one of the greatest golfers of all-time. USA Today columnist Christine Brennan explores how Woods' image has changed and evolved in the media spotlight in recent years following three high-profile incidents with cars, personal scandal and injury. Today on the Brain Booster we are joined by Performance coach and author Peter Arnott He was co author with Graeme McDowall and Ian Renshaw of the wonderful book ‘A Constraints Led Approach to Golf Coaching' Now with Ian Renshaw he has put together a fantastic learning program called ‘Swing it like Tiger' As we discuss during our time together the program is not really about any positions in Tiger's swing. It is much more about the LEARNING process that he employed to become one of the greatest of all time. We discuss How Tiger spent most of his early development on the golf course with coach Rudy Duran How he learned to create shots Created shots names and how this can help commitment Setting up ‘cues' to trigger his body into action The concept of ‘Tiger Par' and how YOU can apply that to your game successfully Building effective learning environments Situational training The influence of his father Earl Woods who had a background in the Special Forces How Tiger used his visual sense to enhance his learning The Number one SKILL to develop to become a better player How you can ‘tune in' to the golf club so much more Building a repertoire of SHOTS Giving the shots a name to cue your body So much of Peters work is around transferring your training into play How you can use technology more efficiently to transfer your learning? How better training can make you a more adaptable golfer? How can you best apply these ideas to your short game skills Peter also has some wonderful research from Scottish European Tour players about the pitfalls of incorrect training that is not SPECIFIC to what you require as a Tour Player A really great session Peter shared so many wonderful insights to really get you thinking about the way you apply yourself to becoming the player you want to be To find out more about Peter Arnott go to https://www.peterarnottgolf.com To find out more about the program go to www.swingitliketiger.com To book your Mind Factor workshop go to www.themindfactor.com To join us on the Mindfulness Retreat at Archerfield contact us at https://themindfactor.net/contact/

Over in China I had the opportunity to meet with Rudy Duran Rudy was the first coach of Tiger Woods. In a wonderful show I get chance to ask Rudy some detailed questions about Tiger and the way he helped him shape the game that would go on to be one of the greatest players of all time. We start with THE COMEBACK Perhaps the greatest comeback in the history of sport. How against all of the odds Tiger came back this year to win the Masters at Augusta Rudy shares his thoughts on what may be possible for Tiger going forwards How many majors COULD Tiger now win? We then go back to the very beginning How Tiger mother Tida brought him to Rudy as a five year old. The first shots he hit The environment Rudy created to allow him to develop The way he CREATED golf shots The lessons we can all learn about the difference between verbal knowledge and instinctive ability The ability to trust the system We discuss how Rudy is very different coach now to the way he used to be How his coaching is much more about drawing out the learning as opposed to imposing the teaching How this puts the student first and the coach second It really was a fun time with Rudy that I am sure you will get so much valuable insight from How to get the BREAKTHROUGH program Go to www.themindfactor.com For details of how to become a Mind Factor coach go to www.themindfactor.com

What can WE learn for our own game? I hope that you saw it! I hope you experienced what for many is the greatest comeback in the whole of sport let alone golf. As we watched a 43 year old Tiger Woods win his first major championship in over a decade we had the opportunity to be part of something very special. Make no mistake we will still be talking about this in 10 or 20 years time. From being THE dominant force in the world of golf Tiger Woods had perhaps THE most spectacular fall of any top level performer. Public humiliation, his private life dissected, loss of form, multiple back surgeries, the chipping yips. If it was a Hollywood script many would say it was too far fetched. But it happened. What can WE learn from this comeback? In today’s show Karl discusses the need for PURPOSE. The sense of striving. To want to be a better version of ourselves. How purpose provides us with the fuel to take DAILY actions. How Tiger navigated his way around Augusta by CREATING golf shots not working on golf swing. How he knew what SHOT to play to get the job done. His sense of CALM as he walked down the fairways. How Tiger seemed to be ‘checking in the with the breath’ How Tiger built his ’40 second sanctuary’ of his Pre Shot Routine How he learned to DEAL with poor outcomes and RESET his attention How he developed SKILLS through effective TRAINING A very interesting analysis and summary of a truly momentous sporting achievement. How Tiger had his Breakthrough and how you can aim for yours. Are YOU going to have a BREAKTHROUGH this year? For details of the NEW Breakthrough training programme which includes 18 Videos, an audio program and an e-book go to www.themindfactor.com

How will the Jets and Giants look back on the 2018 draft in 5, 10, 15 years as Barkley and Darold hopefully become faces of their franchises. What side of history do you land on? Should the Giants have drafted a QB or will they be happy with Barkley?
