Send us a textA putter on a garage shelf became a doorway to memory, legacy, and what it means to lead at home. Coach and author Joe Wessel joins us to trace a winding path from a disciplined Miami childhood and Catholic schools to a walk-on grind at Florida State, summers learning from Miami Dolphins legends, and the day Jack Nicklaus confirmed the “lost” blade in Joe's bag was White Fang—the putter that won the 1967 U.S. Open. Instead of asking for a shiny new set, Joe asked for something better: a father–son round at Augusta. We talk about what built him: a mother who showed up at every game, a father who enforced persistence and faith, and a military prep school that hardened habits after loss. Joe shares the reality of earning a scholarship the hard way, becoming a special teams difference-maker, and absorbing leadership from many mentors in his life. The athletic details are rich—technique, timing, depth charts—but the bigger arc lands on fatherhood: discovering that the hero you searched for might have been at your own dinner table all along.Parents and coaches will find practical wisdom here: don't specialize your kids at 10, grow athletes, not resumes, protect the joy of play, and let your children write their own story. Say I'm sorry. Say I love you. Keep faith as a daily practice, not a performance. We close with the heart of Joe's book, White Fang and the Golden Bear—a father–son journey that culminates at Augusta and proves that the best trophies are moments shared. This Wednesday episode was once again recorded LIVE on YouTube in an effort to have some fun during "silly season." Andy believes that "golf is back!" and Brendan immediately shares that Dustin Johnson might agree with him. DJ is in the Philippines this week for an Asian Tour event and is excited to grow the game alongside some of his LIV leaguemates and other YouTube golfers. Dustin shared some enlightening thoughts on the host course for this International Series tournament, calling it "a golf course" and allowing his "good caddie" to scout the course and tell him where to hit it. Brendan is giddy about these DJ quotes and gets Andy going on DJ's future in majors now that his exemptions are up. Keegan Bradley is also pondering his future these days, wondering if he'll ever get a chance to play in the Ryder Cup again. At Travelers media day, Keegan shared that the last few weeks have been some of the toughest of his life and that the loss at Bethpage will follow him forever. He did state that his goal is to play at Adare Manor, though, so he's got that going for him for the next two years. A B. Draddy ad read turns into a bit of an Illinois Minute with Andy and Brendan debating if the Illini can find their way into the College Football Playoff this winter. The Schedule for the Week kicks off with the Bank of Utah Championship and the PGA Tour's return to the lava rocks. Andy and Brendan are excited for a weekend of captivating TV viewing at Black Desert Resort with a strong field for a FedEx Fall event. Notably not in the field is Jordan Spieth, who currently sits at 56th in the standings heading into next season. Brendan declares Spieth "MIA" and calls out sponsor exemptions for Signature Events taking away from the fields at events that need big-name players. There's some cocktail golf this week for the east coast in the form of the LPGA's International Crown, and Tommy Gainey is on the bubble of the Champs Tour finals in Phoenix. Brendan runs through some notables for Q-School and Andy anoints the Billy Horschel Invitational Presented by Cisco as the "Event of the Week." In events that have ended, the Butterfield will have a D2 golfer from Lee University in the field after a win at a recent college event. The news roundup begins with Jack Nicklaus winning a $50 million lawsuit, leading to a wider discussion about clubs overspending and youth sports. Lastly, the NBA starts up tonight and the PGA Tour is in Utah, so Andy ends the show with a much-needed Jazz Minute!

On this episode of Next on the Tee, I'm joined by two outstanding storytellers who bring both creativity and history to the game. First, my good friend Tucker Booth returns to the show. Tucker is a professional entertainer, writer, rapper, and host of the podcast Rappers Don't Golf. As an author, he's collaborated on powerful projects, including Trouble Maker with Lisa Cromwell and most recently The Final Broadcast, co-written with Michael Whelan. That book, already earning five-star reviews on Amazon, is a deeply emotional, semi-biographical story that explores resilience, friendship, and the impact of cancer. Tucker and I talk about the process of blending his voice with Mike's, why they chose a fictionalized narrative, the powerful imagery behind the book's most moving scenes, and what they hope readers will take away. Then, I welcome Len Ferman for his Next on the Tee debut. Known as The Sports Time Traveler from his popular podcast, Len is also the author of Great Golf Tournaments Volume 1 and The 1973 Mets: You Gotta Believe. A lifelong researcher and storyteller, he shares fascinating golf history—from Jack Nicklaus' brilliance at the 1975 Masters, to Joe Louis breaking barriers as the first African American to play in a PGA Tour event, to Sam Snead competing at the highest level well into his 60s. We also revisit stories about Chi Chi Rodriguez, Dave Stockton, the Big 3 of Nicklaus, Palmer, and Player, and even a time Len discovered a very important error in the New York Times about a score that Johnny Miller shot. It's an episode filled with passion, perspective, and powerful storytelling—one that connects the emotion of today with the history that shaped the game.

A couple of weeks ago Nick O'Hern and Mark Allen listed golfers they disliked playing with, and wolfpacker John was surprised Greg Norman didn't get a mention, in fact Nick said he enjoyed playing with Greg. Johns rationale was, in part, Sharks treatment of Lucas Parsons as a young pro in the early days. So, there's only one thing for it, let's get Lucas on to explain what happened. We start with some background, how Lucas' career started back in Orange, some of the greats he played with, and some of his greatest achievements....which were significant, he was an excellent player. Nick remembers watching Lucas and being amazed by how powerful his swing was, Mark's the same, but also remembers nights out after tournaments with Lucas having a shandy or three. We hear what the two highlights of Lucas' career were, from his perspective, and he talks about what he admired about how Nick went about his career. And all of that is great. But it's an entree to the main course. And today, for mains, we are serving up Lucas' memories of playing with Greg Norman. And boy oh boy...Lucas doesn't hold back. He tells us why 'playing with Greg was not a pleasant experience', why Wayne 'Radar' Riley got Greg in a bad mood one day which he took out on Lucas, the role Jack Nicklaus played in Greg treating Lucas the way that he did, and the day Rodger Davis gave Greg a talking to over his behaviour on course and got told by Shark where to go.Strap in, this pod gets juicy. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:BMW, luxury and comfort for the 19th hole;Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best;Golf Clearance Outlet, they beat everyone's prices;Betr, the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia; And watchMynumbers and Southern Golf Club. He is 14 time PGA Tour winner, including the 1983 PGA Champion where he beat Jack Nicklaus buy 1 and the 1983 and 2000 Players champion where he held off Tiger Woods and you guessed it, the owner of one of the most famous golf lines after hitting his second shot into the 18th green....."Be the right club. Be the right club today" He was the 1983 leading money winner and player of the year and also the comback player of the year in 1994. He played on 4 Ryder Cups and was the captain of the 2004 American squad.... You guessed it I am talking about Mr. Hal Sutton. Its also worth mentioning that he was the recipient of the 2007 Payne Stewart award. So I thought as the Ryder cup approaches, who better to talk to than someone who lived it. We had an amazing discussion that included his father's influence on his life and some of the decisions that he made to how he dealt with the low points and adversity in his career to much more. This is one of the few times that I have been nervous before going into an interview because I have so much respect for Hal, his career and how lives his life and his contributions to the game so give me some grace on this one. On this episode of Next on the Tee, I'm blessed to be joined by four wonderful friends from different corners of the golf world. In part 1, we start with a true legend of the game — Bruce Devlin. One of Australia's all-time greats, Bruce won the 1959 Australian Amateur, enjoyed a stellar career during golf's golden age, and later became an acclaimed broadcaster and course designer. We start out talking about his battles at Oakmont in the 1962, '73, and '83 US Opens. We then hear about his victory at the 1972 Houston Open. From there, we transition to his memories of leading the 1982 U.S. Open through 36 holes, competing against Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus at Pebble Beach, and sealing a dramatic victory at the 1983 New Zealand Open by birdying the 72nd hole. We also talk about his outstanding run in the broadcast booth during the '80s and '90s — and the surprising fact that aspiring broadcasters have never sought his advice, which blew me away. Next, I'm joined by the incomparable Ron Sirak, whose writing forever changed golf journalism. I simply don't understand how he's not in the World Golf Hall of Fame for his many contributions to the game over the years. A proud fellow Yinzer, Ron has been honored with the PGA of America's Lifetime Achievement Award and lauded by the Associated Press for elevating their coverage of the game. We revisit Oakmont's storied place in U.S. Open history, reflect on his Western Pennsylvania roots, and hear about the resilience of the community as the steel mills closed. Ron also shines a light on one of the greatest — yet least celebrated — female amateurs in golf history. His storytelling is as powerful as his reporting, and I think you'll enjoy every moment.
