All he cares about is LOVE! Broadway triple threat James T. Lane joins us this week to talk about his return to the long-running Broadway hit Chicago as Billy Flynn. James shares that after joining the Broadway company of King Kong, he was starting to seek more creative responsibility. “I'd look at all the great Billy Flynn's we had over the years and even the understudies and saw what they were doing with it. I thought ‘the next time I come back, I'm coming as Billy Flynn. I set my mind to that and it's finally happened.'” James also talks about working with two-time Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon, his one-man show Triple Threat and the biggest lesson he's learned playing Billy Flynn in Chicago. This week, we're turning over the mic to Christine Shepard. Featured in the Broadway companies of Head Over Heels and Mean Girls, Chris is a fierce advocate for providing opportunity for all. In her first two-part episode, Chris takes on art education. Education is an ongoing topic of debate in our country. The arts, forever America's favorite face rag, has its own education that continues to lose acknowledgement and funding in schools nationwide. There are opportunities to learn outside of school, but those don't come without a price. Education has a lot of systemic issue, but this episode focuses on how arts education has helped shape the lack of representation seen on Broadway currently. Learn more about your ad choices. One of the most important reasons anyone pursues a career in theatre is because they had a teacher that inspired them. Through tough love, intense compassion, or a combination of the two, that one person can be the spark for an artist to believe in themselves, their voice and their abilities.  This month, we’re collaborating with a new online training site called PassDoor. Founded by Broadway ensemblists, they’re connected seasoned performers with every socio-economic and geographic corner of the world, so that any striving artist can access tte training and mentorship they need. We asked PassDoor instructors to share the stories of their favorite teachers - the ones that inspired them to hone their craft and eventually make it to Broadway. Learn more about your ad choices.
