A farmhand is picking apples on a misty morning in 1896 when he stumbles across the figure of a woman. Or at least part of one. Splayed in the dewy grass of the Kentucky Highlands is the headless body of Pearl Bryan. How she came to be there, miles and miles from her home in Indiana, is anyone's guess. Hosted on Acast. It's okay, it really is OKAY to feel intimidated by politics. The jargon, the history, the coalitions, the ministries, the political figures…we know it can be overwhelming, and you should never feel guilty or condemned just because you don't understand it. In this episode of Head Over Heels, we invite Hannah Yeoh (Former Member of Parliament for Segambut and Former Deputy Minister of Women, Family & Community Development) to come onto the podcast to break it all down for us. From understanding what Undi Banjir means, and how elections work in Malaysia to revisiting the political crisis in 2020, and relearning what it truly means to vote as a Malaysian - we try to simplify it all for both you, and for US. Producer note: Just as you are, we're in this learning process with you. It's okay to feel “dumb” or “inadequate”, we're simply so incredibly proud of you for just SHOWING UP for Malaysia. We hope you remember that everything we do as citizens is for the generations to come; we're all praying for a better tomorrow. It's raw, it's real, it's Head Over Heels. It is a pleasure to welcome award-winning singer, songwriter, and philanthropist Crystal Starr to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Crystal is known as “The Girl with the Golden Voice.” She has captivated audiences worldwide through her well-crafted brand. Her colorful visuals, powerful voice, and pop-feel-good aesthetic are thrillingly mesmerizing, and her style has a modern day twist to the 1980s and 1990s pop music. At 16-years-old and without a single voice lesson, Crystal landed her first professional gig singing for Jessica Simpson. Since then, she shared the stage with a plethora of recording artists such as Ariana Grande, Drake, the Jacksons, Lady Gaga, Paul Stanley, Pitbull, and Stevie Wonder. She also had a starring role in the hit Broadway show Baby It's You. Recently, she also performed at the 2022 Electric Forest Festival, which was attended by over 100,000 people and shared the stage with the String Cheese Incident. Crystal has released three albums and her second record, #SHE, had two singles in the top 100 music charts. Several singles include: “All Mine,” which Crystal Starr co-produced with Grammy-nominated producers Bizkit and Butta, and “Head Over Heels,” produced by Renard Hughes and Grammy-winning producer Keith Harris. In addition to her music endeavors, Crystal founded the Little Voices Nonprofit after having seen first-hand the many hardships and disappointments foster kids endure, she realized that she could combine her passion for music and serving others to help represent those who feel they are voiceless. Since its inception, the Little Voices Nonprofit has impacted the lives of over 1 million kids in foster care or inner cities. In this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Crystal Starr spoke about the stories behind some of her songs, such as “I Still Love You” and “Goodie Two Shoes.” She also spoke about sharing the stage with the Jacksons, Lady Gaga, and Stevie Wonder, plus Little Voices.

As noted in the previous episode, auditions are the backbone of this industry. It is the fundamental job of every actor to do as many jobs as we can and do each one to the best of our ability. But there is an important gatekeeper when it comes to submitting our self tapes or actually getting in the audition room, and that is the casting Director. You've heard from Actors and their experiences in front of the audition table. Well, now it's time to hear from the other side of that proverbial table and what goes in to casting, and the vital role they play in the production for the stage or screen. Daryl Eisenberg, along with fellow casting director Ally Beans, works to create a comfortable space for actors, so they can take risks and really show their full potential as artists. You'll hear Daryl's thoughts on how actors can make their mark in the audition room or on a self-tape, and then you'll get an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at how she uses her position and expertise to make the audition process enjoyable and inclusive for artists on both sides of the table. Audition Stories of Diversity and Inclusion Covid certainly has changed the way we now audition, with self-tapes and Zoom auditions becoming the norm. But the summer of 2020 also changed the way we think about who is coming to the auditions and what that creative team looks like. In this week's bonus episode, Daryl shares a few of her own experiences as she advocates for more diversity on both sides of the table. You'll also hear how she works with fellow casting director Ally Beans, who is both partner and collaborator in the casting process. When you hear Sam Bailey speak you'll understand why I was so drawn to his attitude towards life. I first came across his book while I was in recovery and I've returned to it many times since. Sam had it all planned out; the six-foot bushie was all geared up for a life on the land. Then at just 19 he became a quadriplegic. In the decades since Sam has leaned on his grit and determination to challenge expectations. Listen out for a surprise... we can't share Sam's story without illustrating the enduring love at the heart of everything he does. Not initially. But it was a bachelorette party. How could we say no to the bride? Everyone played along at first, cracking jokes and taking sips of champagne. But as soon as the psychic entered our hotel suite, everyone at the party felt the energy shift. Suddenly, we couldn't wait to hear what the psychic would say. Of course, none of us realized that the words she was about to utter would change lives forever.

The guys discuss Richard Kelly's first film – the cult classic Donnie Darko, staring Jake Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, Drew Barrymore, and the late Patrick Swayze. Along the way, they debate the merits of ambiguity vs. a full explanation, Dave almost learns to pronounce “Cannes,” and everybody marvels at the fantastic hallway shot set to “Head Over Heels.” Everybody loves the soundtrack and thinks the Frank the Bunny costume is downright creepy. By the end of the episode it's clear that everybody remains strongly committed to Sparkle Motion. #donniedarko #cultmovie #frankthebunny #sparklemotion

HEAD OVER HEELSAlthough Nina and Roger had quite different upbringings, they both feared for their lives on more than one occasion.Nina was born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq, where she lived through the Iran War, Gulf War, and some of the Iraqi Desert storm Wars until her family fled to safety in Turkey. Her family lived in a military tent at a refugee camp for three years until arriving in Canada. As a 15-year-old, Nina struggled to stay safe while trying to help her family stay alive. Nina grew up quickly both mentally & physically from those experiences. When she arrived in Canada, she was 18 and didn't speak any English but as Roger can attest, she learned fast! The couple met three years after Nina arrived in Ottawa.Roger was born and raised in Ottawa. But his life growing up wasn't that much different than Nina's. His war was living in an unsafe neighborhood, drugs and alcohol were the norm on his streets he says. He needed to grow up fast to be able to protect himself from that environment. As a teenager, he struggled because he didn't want to follow in the footsteps of those around him. Luckily he had a good head on his shoulders and the mental toughness to move out of that lifestyle and make a name for himself. Although they come from totally different backgrounds, they quickly found out that they both had the same goals and dreams for their future. As Nina would say “I knew he was the one from the first moment I laid eyes on him.” They both agree, “We hit it off that night and became so inseparable, to the point that for the first 2 years, we didn't miss a day without seeing each other, but that wasn't hard to do as we worked across the street from each other”. Nina was a server at Swiss Chalet and Roger was working at a dealership selling cars across the street. Nina & Roger have been happily together for 23 years, they fight, they cry, they laugh, they drive each other crazy and they work together. Most importantly, they wouldn't trade any of it for the world! The Head Over Heels show aims to help couples through the thick and thin of their relationships. Nobody said it would be easy but with determination, hard work, and a common goal, any two can make a life worth living, together. They aren't doctors or therapists, and they don't have all the answers but are out to get them and learn along with you. They are “head over heels” for each other and they take what they get in life and turn it into something magical. We want to welcome Erin Glazier to the Co-Movement Gym podcast. Erin is the owner of Head Over Heels athletics located in Deansboro NY. Erin works with 80+ kids per week and has several tumbling classes, and 5 cheer teams called the Marshall Mavericks. The Marshall Mavericks cheerleading team has won several national Championships, along with Grand Championships, and numerous First place awards. Erin emphasizes her gratitude for the small town in which her business thrives and all of the people who volunteer time, energy, and service to make this one special place for kids in rural upstate new York. Erin and I connected in 2019 when she pitched me on the idea of building a facility for her cheerleading and tumbling program. I was very inspired by her enthusiasm and vision for her company. 3 years later Erin has built one hell of a community operating out of just 1800 square next door to our Co-Movement Gym. She packs the parking lot each night and provides a safe, healthy environment for all her kids. Erins energy, and overall zest for life makes her a true pleasure to be around. A musician and songwriter for over 40 years who rose to the top of the charts as a member of the iconic band The Go-Go's. Kathy wrote or co-wrote some of the bands most renowned tunes, including the hits Vacation and Head Over Heels. Her journey went from opening for The Rolling Stones to the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine. She returned to Austin to pursue creative opportunities as a public speaker, spokesperson, producer and actor. Kathy is the author of a compelling memoir called All I Ever Wanted—a soundtrack of original music accompanies the book. Several of her songs are featured in the Broadway musical based on The Go-Go's catalog Head over Heels, currently in regional productions across the country. She still finds time to play guitar in the all-female rock ‘n' roll band she started called The Bluebonnets. On this episode we hear the story of John Belushi following her band to gigs around the country, how she finishes writing her songs incrementally and how being in a band was like being a member of a family that she really needed.
Relationships are tricky! This week in our relationship series, Lead Pastor Kevin Fetterhoff preaches from the perspective of Solomon's fiance. This sermon is packed with a relevant and biblical approach to dating, marriage, and relationships in general!

Spider-Man has a stalker in an episode that, unfortunately, does not age well in its mishandling of mental health. But it's a surprisingly fun and well-written episode (from an interesting Buffy writer, no less), including a Harley Quinn-esque performance from Tara Strong as essentially this show's version of Tinkerer!
