WELCOM TO OUR 3RD REVISIT FOR THE WEEK OF FEBUARY 7, 2023 WE TRAVEL DOWN 20 YEARS AGO FOR THE MOVIE How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is a 2003 romantic comedy film directed by Donald Petrie, starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. It is based on the picture book of the same name by Michele Alexander and Jeannie Long. The book has no narrative, only a list of comedic dating "don'ts", so the characters and plot were created specifically for the film. In the film, advertising executive Benjamin Barry makes a bet that he can make any woman fall in love with him, while women's magazine writer Andie Anderson plans to write an article about how she led her boyfriend to dump her, putting them at cross-purposes after they choose each other as their romantic partners. Andie employs a number of the dating "don'ts" from the picture book in her efforts to get Ben to break up with her.ENJOY!

Today I have two very special people with me on Thriving Beyond Belief- Gerard and Jeannie Long! The Longs have an incredible story of walking through the highest of mountain tops and the lowest of valleys. They speak so authentically about knowing the Lord in the good times and learning to lean into faithfulness during the hardest times. We discuss suffering and what comes from the redemption of the most difficult situations. We learn to be heavenly-minded when walking through things that seem unbearable. Gerard speaks about how God's plan for each of us is to redeem us, restore us, and have us triumph. We also speak about coming back from the darkness into the light in terms of our faith after incredible hardship. One of the main themes of this episode is the power of God in a Christ-centered marriage. We see Gerard being a covering for Jeannie and truly leaning on the Lord so Jeannie could lean on Gerard. We talk about the supernatural strength of the Lord to help glorify the marriage to get through and THRIVE in every season. The Longs could not emphasize more the power the prayer, the incredible presence of God in unusual places, and glimmers of hope that lead to rays of light in your life. We talk about how in the deepest sorrow, God embraced them and they felt that God was truly enough. From hardship leads to true community. There is blessing in that we are never alone, and that what we walk through will one day comfort and encourage others. Also, the path He has set before us is what He has equipped us to handle. We may not ever understand the "why", but that is when we look at the Lord and trust that He does understand the "why". This episode will have you clinging more to the Lord. It will challenge and embolden your faith. You will be blessed by these few moments today.
Friends, the reality is that we need to search for a partner who will stand by our side through the storms of life. The first time Kait heard the story of today’s guests she was brought to complete tears. It moved Kait so deeply to see the vast amount of trauma this couple had been through but were able to triumphantly OVERCOME. Today Kait interviews the amazing Gerard and Jeannie Long. Gerard has an extensive banking career background that eventually led him to actually leaving this career to join Alpha USA. Today he is married to the lovely Jeannie and together they live in Malibu. The amazing couple also recently launched the TRIUMPH FOR MARRIAGE COURSE which is an e-learning course for strengthening couples. It’s AMAZING and powerful and we encourage you all to check it out! Gerard and Jeannie have an incredible story of devastation, heartbreak, grief and then restoration and HOPE and love. Today they share about their tragically beautiful story and how they conquered it together with ultimate LOVE and SACRIFICE and SURRENDER through overwhelming healing and STRENGTHENING from God. Friends, the reason why their message is so pivotal is that we believe this lie that relationships are about making us happy. We focus on how the other person can serve our needs and once it gets hard we often see that as a red flag and usually LEAVE for the next thing. The fact of the matter is AND what Jeannie and Gerard’s story shows us is that life is SO much more than just being happy. The storms will come, the unexpected will happen, and at the end of the day you might be left in shambles with your spouse. This is where we have to admit that having a partner to see you through life’s biggest hardship is SO PIVOTAL. Some themes of today’s episode: -Relationships are more about making us HOLY than they are about making us happy. -Character and a person of God is of much greater value than attraction. -There WILL be storms in life. How can we look for a partner to conquer the times of trauma and pain together? -How can we love another person through their seasons of brokenness and darkness? -The pivotal importance of SACRIFICIAL love in relationships. We hope you will listen to todays episode with an open heart. The reality is LIFE will probably get ugly, and painful and hard and sometimes tragic…. so who is it you want standing by your side when that happens? FRIENDS also, we are SO excited to announce the launch of our Dating COURSE: The Date Great Course. Just for Heart of Dating listeners you can be on our list to be the first to get access to this course! Just go to heartofdating.com/dategreat to reserve your spot!
