Many today are under the false impression that the New Covenant of grace revealed in Christ sets us free from “the bondage of the law.” But there is great error in thinking this way, and in fact it is Satanic at its heart. The moral law, the eternal moral principles and character of God, is unchanging. Grace does not do away with this law but rather empowers us to obey it with delight, because it's good. Today we will look at the entire New Testament and see what the authors actually believed on this very important issue. * 00:00 - Introduction* 09:31 - Acts* 51:24 - Romans* 1:11:15 - 1 & 2 Corinthians* 1:47:22 - Galatians* 2:10:40 - Ephesians* 2:14:18 - Philippians* 2:22:33 - Colossians* 2:36:19 - 1 & 2 Thessalonians* 2:49:20 - 1 & 2 Timothy* 3:04:10 - Titus & Philemon* 3:13:35 - Hebrews* 3:33:32 - James* 3:45:00 - 1 & 2 Peter* 4:04:53 - John & Jude* 4:24:41 - Revelation* 4:37:21 - Important Distinctions* 4:49:14 - Pistis & Emunah This is a public episode. Send us a one-way message! (or visit outloudbible.com/contact to start a conversation)We read 2 John, 3 John, and Jude and hold them up to real life where false teaching is loud and Christian love is often defined without Scripture. We walk away with a simple test for friendship with Jesus: remain in Christ's teaching, support gospel workers with wisdom, and contend for the faith without becoming careless with our words. • John's core thread of love and truth held together • The “elect lady” as a house church or church region • False teachers and the call to remain in Christ's teaching • Love defined as walking in God's commandments • Why we filter culture through Scripture rather than rewriting Scripture • Gaius as a model of hospitality and generosity • Supporting traveling ministers as co-workers with the truth • Diotrophes as a warning about pride and control in church life • Jude's urgent call to contend earnestly for the faith • Fighting spiritual battles by building faith, praying, and staying in God's love At outloudbible.com, you can find free resources to help you study the Bible. "Come prepared to give a brief contextual overview of each books - don't summarize each book, share any details we need to know about author, audience, and main themes. Then be ready to answer the following: 1. In 3 John, we see a contrast between Gaius, who shows hospitality to gospel workers, and Diotrephes, who refuses them. What does this teach us about the role of hospitality in advancing the mission of the church? 2. Jude urges believers to ‘contend for the faith once for all delivered to the saints' (v. 3). What does it look like to contend for the faith without becoming quarrelsome or divisive? 3. Jude ends with one of the most powerful doxologies in the New Testament—God is able to keep us from stumbling. How does that promise encourage believers in the face of both personal weakness and external opposition? The book of the prophet Haggai addresses the people of Judah who returned from exile and who had prioritized making their homes comfortable while neglecting to rebuild the Lord's temple. The letter known as 2 John is addressed to “the elect lady and her children” which is most likely a reference to the church body to whom he was writing. In it, he encourages the church to continue in love and to reject false teaching. In 3 John, the apostle commends his friend Gaius, who is likely a pastor, and writes to warn him about Diotrophes who loves attention, power, divisive speech, and who probably already had an active social media following. In the letter from Jude, we see a saint who zealously defends the faith against false teaching and practice.Haggai 1 - 1:12 . Haggai 2 - 4:10 . 2 John - 10:12 . 3 John - 12:41 . Jude - 15:14 .
