In honor of Black History Month, This exclusive interview with Richmond's very own legend Lonnie B (founder of the famous Art of Noise) who speaks up and out about his journey in becoming a Testicular Cancer survivor. He elaborates on how his wife helped him discover the diagnosis, fatherhood and educates on ways to stay focused during survivorship as well as post treatment.

On this episode I sit down with DJ Lonnie B to talk about how he built his career, brand, and one of the biggest parties to hit the east coast "The Art of Noise". One of the biggest lessons I learned from my Uncle was about "ownership" and having control of your brand from start to finish. DJ Lonnie B is a Heavy Hitter DJ and is DJ Jazzy Jeff's favorite DJ. Over the next few months he will be launching his own Internet radio station "Spin 100".On Sept 13, 1997, my Uncle Anthony "Tony" Vincent Scott was hit by a bullet and killed. We did it Richmond! After nearly two years, we finally got the Heavy Hitter DJ Lonnie B on our podcast. Lonnie is one of the best DJs in the nation and a member of the Heavy Hitter DJs. He also is one of the founders of the Art of Noise, which is the biggest party in RVA for all music lovers. Lonnie chops it up with the podcast crew about his career, his passion for music, his views on the current state of hip-hop, being a father, giving back to the community, and more. Kelli's wrapping up season 2 in Carytown with DJ Lonnie B at Mott Gallery. Lonnie's no stranger to Kelli, he's been spinning records in Richmond for 25 years but his thoughts on the RVA music scene and beating cancer is what Kelli's excited to hear Lonnie share.

On October 15, 2012 Ill Street Grooves paid homage to a producer from the DMV region, the late Kleph Dollaz (a.k.a. Darrel Durand) of Petersburg, VA.  Formerly of the 90's hip hop act, Ill Biskits (once-signed to Atlantic Records), the MC/producer went on to work with acts such as NYC's Black Moon, Sean Price, Sadat X, and CA's own Rasco. He also continued to rep VA, joining forces with Richmond's Bear-One to form the Kontrol Freakz production crew and additionally collaborated with the likes of Lonnie B and Shawn Chappelle (Supafriendz), amongst many others. Sadly, he passed away in late August 2012. The Ill Street fam worked with Kleph last year and we're saddened by his transition to the next life.
