Growing Up Hip Hop star, Egypt Criss aka daughter of Pepa of Salt-n-Pepa and Naughty By Nature's Treach, dishes on her love life with Sam Wright (did you say ONLY FANS?) ... brawls with Briana Latrise Kamara and Tee Tee, and welcoming her first child into the world! And, after ordering a hideous wedding dress and bridesmaids gowns from Amazon, Egypt Criss decides she wants to do her wedding ALL over again, and the cameras capture everything for her final season of Growing Up Hip-Hop on WeTV. With the help of her fairy-gown mother, Pol' and hubby, Patrik comes to Egypt's rescue and sits down to discuss her new bridal look: purple hues, an elegant cathedral length train, and glitter galore. Egypt wants her fairytale-of-a-wedding to be unforgettable and of course, a dream come true. The guys pull red carpet looks of Egypt at the BET Awards, the Salt-N-Peppa Milani event, and cast member's looks from the latest season of Growing Up Hip Hop. Pol' and Patrik gag as they criticize some of the most outdated trends and hot mess styles we've seen on the show so far! Or what Patrik likes to call the good, the bad, and the absolutely UGLY! Egypt shares the TEA behind her sit down with Tee Tee and punching Brianna Latrice on the show. But to make this conversation even more magical, Egypt shares her thoughts on motherhood because she's… having a BABY GIRL! Pol' & Patrik argue about whether the baby's name should be Pol'ina or Patrika… Pol' reads Egypt's Armenian coffee cup and to her surprise, there's a dove in her life roaming around that represents a new found peace. Egypt finds out there's a special person who emphasizes this peace, and who will be supporting her new journey along the way as she and Sam raise their new bundle of joy! Few groups have combined lyrical prowess and hit making abilities like Naughty By Nature. They had a string of genre defining hits over the course of the 1990's including joints like Uptown Anthem, Hip Hop Hooray, and Feel Me Flow. Selling an ridiculous amount of records did not water down their approach to music though. Vinny and Treach took rapid fire deliver to high levels of rap music inspiring a generation of rappers including this kid from Detroit name Eminem. Nate and Dave had the opportunity to check in with New Jersey rap royalty Vin Rock, who recounted the groups humble beginnings, there connection to Queen Latifah, and what's next for the rap dynasty that ruled the 90s. Hit singles like "O.P.P.," "Uptown Anthem," and "Hip Hop Hooray" were instant classics and helped to solidify their place as hip-hop legends. From their humble beginnings to their meteoric rise to fame in the 90s, Naughty By Nature have left an indelible mark on pop culture. Vinnie from Naughty By Nature is an old friend so he's come by to break it all down. He talks about how and the guys started out dealing on the block, and how they made OPP and how that smash changed their lives, and the long slow breakdown of the group's bonds which led to very real problems. He talks about the time he punched Treach in the face and why their relationship is strained now. Amazingly honest conversation about the rise and the struggles of a legendary rap group. "Remember, 1992 was the year that Naughty by Nature had a huge song called O.P.P. It was a megahit. Jonathan [Editor-in-Chief] asked me if I wanted to write an article about Treach from Naughty by Nature. I was like, heck yeah. He didn't tell me that Albert Watson was shooting the cover, the famous photographer Albert Watson, and he didn't tell me that my story was gonna be the very first cover story for Vibe Magazine." Kevin Powell Finger on the pulse is often used to describe someone who has the ability to read the ongoings of culture, synthesize the information, and in the case of my guest Kevin Powell, write, speak, produce, and publish work that chronicles our collective experience. Many people remember him from the early nineties in the MTV series, The Real World, where he was an original cast member. I became aware of Kevin when he joined Quincy Jones as a senior writer and part of the editorial team at the startup and groundbreaking Vibe Magazine. Since then, Kevin is the author of fifteen books including his new collection of poetry, Grocery Shopping with My Mother. In the works is a biography of Tupac Shakur, utilizing Kevin's treasure trove of interviews and conversations, several gathered while a senior writer at Vibe, and his first documentary film, titled "When We Free The World," about healthy manhood vs. toxic manhood, about fathers and sons. Following in the footsteps of Toni Morrison and Nikki Giovanni, Kevin is a writer in residence at Prairie View A&M University in Texas for the 2022 - 2023 school year. As a highly involved human and civil rights activist, he is a leader in the movement to redefine manhood away from sexism and violence; has a deep responsibility to mentorship and development of people of every age as agents of change; and is committed to voter education and empowerment. Kevin is a longtime proud resident of Brooklyn, New York and it was great catching up with him. Growing up in a musical family and raised in San Francisco's Bayview neighborhood, T.C. has been part of the Bay Area rap music scene since the beginning. From time spent DJing with friends, experimenting with samplers, and soaking in hip-hop since it first hit the west coast, T.C. became a self-taught producer and studio engineer. He got his start at the legendary Bankroll Studios in Lakeview before building his own home studio in Hunters Point. His impressive discography includes production for Cougnut and IMP, RBL Posse, Totally Insane, Dre Dog aka Andre Nickatina, Treach of Naughty By Nature, Mac Dre, Suga Free, Hugh EMC, and literally more artists than he can remember. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/historyofthebay/support

Blackbeard, aka Edward Teach, Thatch or Treach, is one of history's most famous pirates, who became a huge figure in American folklore. Little is known of Blackbeard's early life, and his origins have been left to speculation. Blackbeard was first heard of as a pirate late in 1716. The following year he converted a captured French merchantman into a 40-gun warship, Queen Anne's Revenge, and soon became notorious along the Virginia and Carolina coasts and in the Caribbean Sea. Before his death in November of 1718, Blackbeard was only an active pirate for less than two years. So, why is his legend still so well known? Learn more about your ad choices.
