What does the First Amendment guarantee? PETA has filed the very first Amendment Lawsuit against the NIH. PETA maintains it has the right to receive communications from what are called, "willing speakers' and in this case the macaque monkeys named Beamish, Sam Smith, Nick Nack and Guiness. Listen to this interview with Mark's special guest, Jeff Kerr - PETA Foundation Chief Legal Officer.
PETA's Top Lawyer, Jeff Kerr, on Unique First Amendment Lawsuit Seeking ‘Speech' from Monkeys Imprisoned by NIH Bernadette talks with attorney Jeff Kerr from PETA about the first-of-its-kind lawsuit, filed this month, that made headlines in The Washington Post, and seeks to enforce PETA's right to receive communications from what are called in law, “willing speakers”—the macaque monkeys Beamish, Sam Smith, Nick Nack, and Guinness, who have spent years in cages and being experimented on at the NIMH laboratory of experimenter Elisabeth Murray.Anthropologists and other scientists have studied macaque and other primate communications for decades. Macaques communicate effectively and intentionally through gestures, body language, and vocalizations—all of which constitute speech under the law. Many of their communications are intelligible to humans generally, and PETA and other experts can analyze that speech on a deeper level to share their stories with the world. As alleged in the complaint, PETA's suit follows years of NIH's attempts to conceal what goes on in its laboratories from animal advocates and the public by refusing to comply with public information laws, banning PETA executives from its campus, and infamously unconstitutionally censoring animal advocates' speech on NIH's public social media pages.Learn more about how you can support PETA and help win this lawsuit as well as support all the ways PETA is working to end animal testing in laboratories at PETA.org.See all of our shows at oneliferadio.com.

It is another catchup episode of Nick Nack Goes to the Movies, and thank goodness they say good things come to those who wait. It may not be as new to theaters, but we have a jam packed triple feature here. Timely considering I just did a double feature of back to back movie viewings at Marcus Theaters. Not the Barbenheimer cinematic event, this is something more casual. So you wanna know what I am talkin here? Do ya? Well it is these cinematic beauties, or are they beasts? Only you will find out by listening to me talk on the end cap to the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, Vol. 3. After that, we could not just talk about one super hero movie. And while that The Flash movie will be discussed eventually on here, this is not that time. Instead it is indeed another Marvel movie, just not an MCU one. The second of the animated Spider-Man movies from Sony, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse could be an important milestone to this eventual proposed trilogy showing that Sony still can do it.Lastly, this movie might not be a super hero movie, but with the suspension of disbelief, you might as well consider all of the Fast & Furious franchise something closer to these super hero movies. The amount of people coming back from the dead and surviving things with the power of family, I will let you sort out where you classify these and the latest one, Fast X.But pull up a comfy chair and a blanket, be you at home or your own office blanket, and take a listen to my take on this current cinemascape. All that and more on Nick Nack Goes to the Movies. And if you want more, check out all of our socials on every platform, not Threads yet, at either @NickNack_IC or @NickNackMovies !

All that and more are here for this Nick Nack Goes to the Movies new(ish) to theaters catchup edition, the latest of the bunch. After every non life-threatening medical issue ever to start off 2023 and some work travel, we are back baby. Back on your podcast airwaves, back with season 4, and Nick Nack is indeed back to theater for some movies. We ended last season with a Marvel movie so now we have to start this one with, you guessed it, another Marvel and specifically MCU movie. A ton of fun movies came out at the end of 2022, but I had to talk about the start of Phase 5 with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Ant-Man has been the franchise of fun in the MCU up to this point. Does this third entry continue that trend? Does Jonathan Majors bring something special for the future as the next long-standing big bad? Find out all of that and more on this episode of Nick Nack Goes To The Movies. Make sure to let us know your take on this and the rest of the MCU up to this point on social at either @NickNackMovies or @NickNack_IC on Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, and yes, especially Letterboxd, where you can find my entire rankings list for the MCU.

So what are we dissecting and disseminating on this newest episode of Nick Nack Goes to the Movies. We are getting right into it with the latest Marvel movie with the Game of Thrones reunion we have been craving in Eternals. Gotta get to this before the conclusion of Hawkeye and the newest wall-crawling web-slinging Spider-Man (or men) movie. We gotta get a little horror in with my episode on the previous Resident Evil film franchise, it is only fair I talk about the baby steps of this latest rendition of the zombie franchise in the hopes it is less brain-dead. And while I was not able to get a holiday episode in this winter season, I have talked about Ghostbusters for every Freeform 31 Nights of Halloween episode, so going back to their roots with Afterlife, I figure that was a fine trifecta of films for the first of these bi-weekly episodes to close out season 2 before an explosive season 3 kicks off in January! Make sure to let us know what your favorite movie was of 2021 on social at Nick Nack Movies or Nick Nack_IC on Twitter, Tik Tok, Instagram, and Letterboxd, and check out all the movies and shows we have reviewed in our first mostly full year of weekly episodes.

On the latest episode of Nick Nack Goes to the Movies, we are back after a month and a half hiatus. But now that Midwestern me is here and mostly settled in, it is time to get back to the things you need, what movies am I watching and such. So we have a whole cinema slate to catch up on, we got the end of the Daniel Craig Bond era, we got the latest of Haddonfield Halloween, which somehow jumps to all eras of the history Michael Myers. Lastly is the latest cast-loaded Sci-Fi show Dune. I mean Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac, and Josh Brolin, enough said. So get caught up as I catch up on the used to be new to theater films of October. This week on End Credits, we remember the 90s. For some of us, the 90s are not so easy to forget having lived there, and nostalgia comes to stay in the second half of this week's show with Kid 90. Speaking of nostalgia, the first part of the show is dedicated to one of Hollywood's most bankable players with 25 movies over 60 years, and counting: Bond, James Bond. This Wednesday, September 29, at 3 pm, Adam A. Donaldson and Candice Lepage will discuss: Run the Series: Jams Bond Part 1 of 2. The 25th James Bond movie, No Time to Die, comes out next month. It's the latest entry in the longest running ongoing film series in Hollywood history, and that means it's had a lot of ups and downs along the way. So let's separate the ups from the downs in this two-part "Run the Series" entry. In part one, we'll cover voodoo, diamonds, Nick Nack, most of the Brosnan oeuvre, and, most consequentially, Bond! In! Space! REVIEW: Kid 90 (2021). In the 80s, Soleil Moon Frye starred in a sitcom called Punky Brewster but the real show happened in the 90s as a teenage Soleil filmed her famous friends as they struggled to grow up against the bright lights of Hollywood. Not all of them made it. Some 30 years later, Soleil opened her time capsule, which featured hours of raw footage, saved voice mail messages, and deeply candid diary entries, and put together a documentary that speaks to not just 90s teen pop culture, but the freedom in coming of age in pre-internet times. End Credits is on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca Wednesday at 3 pm.
It has been a few years in the making, but I am finally making that episode all about the live action Scooby-Doo movies. This episode was drawn out two years in a row in relationship to these movies being omitted from Freeform's 31 Nights of Halloween marathon for a handful of years now. And while I was proven wrong with Nightmare Before Christmas thankfully making the cut this year, there is a fair amount of odd selections or way too many airings of a few movies that are seriously cutting into Scooby Dooby Duology time. So let's dive into both Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (I'm seeing this for the first time somehow) and see how Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini, and more bring this spooky animated tv show to literal life. And most importantly, let's finally decide if these movies need to grace this Freeform film fest and determine if they belong in the same company and conversation as Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, and so many more. Let's talk about every masked monster and Scooby Snack on social at either Nick Nack Movies or Nick Nack underscore IC on Twitter, Tik Tok, Tumblr, Pinterest, YouTube, Letterboxd, and Instagram!
With another year comes another fall season, and that means here come all the Halloween movie marathons. We got Freeform's 31 Nights of Halloween, AMC FearFest, and the second outing of the Amazon Prime anthology film series, Welcome to the Blumhouse. While we only have a small amount of information from Blumhouse and only the first week of FearFest, we do have a full slate from Freeform, there are some odd selections, some really good ones, and some painful omissions. But get in the festive mood with your favorite sweet and get ready for some frightful fun as we kick things off early and ring in the spooky season, I mean if pumpkin spice is in season, scary cinema should be too. Let's debate all the omissions on social at either Nick Nack Movies or Nick Nack underscore IC on Twitter, Tik Tok, Tumblr, Pinterest, Letterboxd, and Instagram!
The latest MCU movie has graced theaters so I stuck true to this podcast's name and went to the movies. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the first real post Infinity Stones saga outing with the latest Spider-Man movie serving as more of an epilogue and Black Widow's solo outing being way earlier in this Marvel timeline. Simu Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, Ben Kingsley, and Benedict Wong both complete the arc of the Ten Rings started way back in 2008 in Iron Man and takes a new and exciting direction for magic in the MCU overall. This movie may not be available on Disney Plus, but this latest marvelous movie has some spectacular visuals and you'll have to listen to my take on the latest and possibly one of the greatest MCU villains in ages. You also won't want to miss my Letterboxd rankings for this latest entry and see where it sits in the Marvel Cinematic Universe pantheon. If you want to geek out together on the franchise, and this specific entry, hit me up on social at either Nick Nack Movies or Nick Nack underscore IC on Twitter, Tik Tok, Letterboxd, and Instagram!
Another week of horror movie franchises with new theater bound entries and another week of Nick Nack Goes To The Movies! Come take a journey with me from past to present, 1992-2021. This franchise is neither sugary or sweet, I don't think it is necessarily bad for your teeth, but with the scares a plenty, it might have you seeking the nearest box of Cookie Dough Bites for comfort. See the amazing cast of the first film including Tony Todd, Virginia Madesn, and Walking Dead actor, Xander Berkeley. If you wan't to skip the old school and go straight for the new school revamp, you can catch Aquaman Actor, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, WandaVision star Teyonah Parris, and of course the whole reason I made this episode, Fear the Waking Dead actor, Coleman Domingo! There are pros and cons to the movies and the franchise, but sink into your seat, and try to relax as we compare and contrast which Candyman cinematic experience takes the cake! If you want to delve further into the franchise, it me up on social at either Nick Nack Movies or Nick Nack underscore IC on Twitter, Tik Tok, Letterboxd, and Instagram!
Carole King once sang “It's Too Late, Baby It's Too Late, But We Really Did Try To Make It…One Of Us Is Changing Or Maybe We Just Stopped Trying.” Since 1960 Albert R “Cubby” Broccoli and Harry Saltzman reluctantly formed a partnership that would grow into one of the most profitable and powerful Hollywood would ever see and after 13 years the lights were turning off. 1974's ‘The Man With The Golden Gun' would prove to be their swan song together as outside forces and inside struggles would finally lead to the breakup of Bond's two Dads. Did you know that Harry Saltzman produced at least 13 other pictures while also producing Bond pictures? Did you know Cubby Broccoli produced just 2? Did you know on top of being related to Ian Fleming Christopher Lee was a real-life James Bond during WWII? And how does Bruce Lee fit into all of this and does anyone know where Nick Nack is? Let's find out all these things and more as The Latch Key Kids present their latest episode “Breaking Bond Part XI: The Man With The Golden Gun”.So, It's Time To Sit Back And Relax Mom & Dad Won't Be Back For At Least An Hour!
New movies aplenty in this latest episode of Nick Nack Goes to the Movies. The action packed automobile romp, F9: The Fast Saga, as well as the latest Purge-a-palooza, The Forever Purge. Both of these films clearly fall into the comfort food viewing category of their genres, but with all we have been through in 2020 and 2021, we all could use the tater tot equivalent of films to turn your brain off a bit, and enjoy either rocket cars and tank flips or a free advert for Party City Halloween shopping and a lighter version of the messaging from Lovecraft Country, Them, and AHS: Cult. This is also the fist movie we drop some Letterboxd reviews, it's a best out of 5 star system, but if you are an ImDb-er like me, you will still feel pretty right at home. So get back to the movies if you feel safe doing such, and come back to some brand new movie action on this pop-culture podcast! So if you caught either The Forever Purge or F9, what did you think? Who tf cares about Jaws when there's Nick Nack! He has all the power of Oddjob and Jaws, but in a smaller package with three times the charm. Yeah that's right I'm still right in Nick Nack's corner and I will never leave.
Who tf cares about Oddjob when there's Nick Nack! He has all the power of Oddjob, but in a smaller package! Plus this movie has 50% more nipple than any other franchise film! It's official, this is the best Bond yet.

Roger Moore returns, and his Bond is at peak asshole in the 1974 film The Man with the Golden Gun! Listen as we gush about Christopher Lee, be charmed by Nick Nack, be confused about the film’s Asian representation, and rage over a poorly placed slide whistle. A couple of tropical “Golden Gun” cocktails help us take both good and the bad, so join us for the ups and downs of this perfectly serviceable film.

Our latest episode of Soundtracking sees a return for the supremely entertaining writer, director and producer Sacha Gervasi, who joined us a couple of months back to discuss his career to date. We held some of that interview back to coincide with the realease of his latest movie, My Dinner with Hervé. Starring Peter Dinklage and Jamie Dornan, My Dinner With Hervé recounts the later days of actor Hervé Villechaize, best known for his roles in smash TV show Fantasy Island and The Man With The Golden Gun, in which he played Nick Nack. As you'll hear, it's a deeply personal endeavour for Sacha, who, almost by chance, got to know Hervé well shortly before he commited suicide. Given My Dinner With Hervé was 25 years in the making, Sacha talks at length about his own relationship with Herve and why he felt he owed it to him to get project off the ground. We think it's a tale worth telling. So, before we get to the music, we're going to share this incredible backstory with you, interspersed with extracts from composer David Norland's score.

Our Halloween special, marking two years of our podcast, looks at Ken Russell's 1986 "Gothic". During 1816, volanic ash created a Year Without A Summer, with many cold storms keeping people indoors. Among those losing their minds in a Swiss villa, were bad-boy Lord Byron and SJW Percy Shelley. A writing contest among the guests led to the inspiration for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Polidori's The Vampyre, paving the way for a century of flourishing Gothic horror literature. That is what the opening and conclusion of this movie is about. Everything in-between is a discordant nightmarish phantasmagoria of steampunk porcelain robots, eye-boobs and "nudey Nick-Nacks". Jonathan gets into some context for what actually happened to the people depicted while Richard notes comparisons with Darren Aronofsky's Mother! And the latest Bond news reveals an upcoming biopic of Nick-Nack actor Hervé Villechaize, where Peter Dinklage plays him and it actually exists. Happy Halloween.

It’s been a while between episodes but we’re back to bring you another action filled commentary of your favourite film franchise as we talk over The Man With The Golden Gun! Colin gets things started by bringing some sad news to the episode to which Ben had no idea about, and it follows up with all the usual fun you’d expect from one of our commentaries including talking about the film we’re watching, not talking about the film we’re watching, making babies cry and talking about Chris Tucker. We also have questions as usual, like why does Ben still have to defend Die Another Day in this episode? Why does Colin have to pretend Mary Goodnight is a good thing? And can Nick Nack be placed in any other Bond film and play multiple roles? We of course aren’t going to answer those questions, but you can answer them by listening to this incredibly illuminating episode.

We continue our discussion about THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN. In this episode, we talk about Herve Villechaize's evil Nick Nack and the other henchmen. We also talk about the Bond Girls from GOLDEN GUN including Maud Adams and Britt Ecklund, the plot, and the action sequences, including the amazing twisting boat jump.
In this episode we discuss Roger Moore's second outing as Bond, The Man With The Golden Gun. Topics include that PTS, Nick Nack's job interview, and Scaramanga's utter brilliance.
James Bond has returned! The Man With the Golden Gun felt like an old familiar suit. It felt like Roger Moore has managed to incorporate elements of Connery's performance while making the character his own. This movie, while having a lot of light-hearted moments, still found the brutality of the Bond character. Christopher Lee as the villain Scaramanga, along with his sidekick, Nick Nack, are a welcome duo against 007. We look forward to seeing more from Roger Moore as James Bond. Nick Nack, baddie whack, give the girl a bone. Having earned a nice holiday in Honk Kong, Bond gets into trouble straight away by flashing his tits at the wrong businessman. He gatecrashes a Bruce Lee Appreciation Society meeting in his pyjamas, narrowly avoids a humongous kicking with the help of the local girls school after hours ninja club and gets arrested for joyriding in a stolen car with a racist sterotype. On the second day... he tracks down his biggest fan, shoots him and burns down his house, Bond then attends a wine wasting party where a bimbo and a midget fight over his junk. All that's left now is to take revenge on his tailor.

DJ Nick Nack has been a fixture as one of the best DJs and producers in the Austin scene for many years. As the founder of http://www.crowdcontrolrecords.com (Crowd Control Records), he has collaborated with a lot of artists and expanded people's minds with his music. We talk about: The early days, as a turntablist and battle DJ. His days at KVRX and Hip Hop Mecca. His collaborations with K-Otix, http://bavublakes.com/ (Bavu Blakes), Organized Konfusion, Blaze and more. Gigacrate and Crowd Control Records. His DJ style and production process. Quote of the show: “I could be watching a movie and hear this amazing melody. Be like OH MY GOD! PAUSE. Run downstairs. Turn everything on. And maybe I never finish watching the movie.” – DJ Nick Nack
For Roger Moore's second Bond film every attempt was made to recapture the magic of Goldfinger. With the return of Goldfinger's director Guy Hamilton, another character carrying a golden pistol, and a plot full of twists and turns, it certainly seems like all the right ingredients were brought together. Add in classic Hammer horror icon Christopher Lee as a master assassin aided by diminutive aide Nick Nack, did this film live up to Bond's gold standard? Listen to Stuart, Arnie, and Brock to find out!

Bond's ninth outing is Moore's second. Join me as I analyze the story, the girls, the cars, the gadgets—by which I mean the fake nipple—and the seemingly endless, awful JW Pepper scenes. However, I actually find myself defending the film against the haters and end up enjoying it fairly well on its own merits, at least a fair amount more than I did Live and Let Die. I point out the not-so-subtle foreshadowing, analyze Scaramanga as a villain and Andrea as an ally. I try to figure out what country we're in, what the purpose of the custom golden gun is, and what Nick Nack's motivation is. I enjoy Maud Adams and Brit Eckland, and I positively adore the half-sunken ship secret spy office.

Hear the slightly edited results and much more, including Ian's inferiority complex regarding the popularity of his brother's one-off appearance, and why Nick Nack makes Adham think of R. Kelly.

From vinyl manipulation on the turntables, to current production of jazz infused hiphop tracks, Crowd Control Records CEO, NickNack is a true soundcraftsman. His musical journey began in the late 80's after making the transition from hiphop spectator to participant. Cutting his teeth from the very beginning as a young appreciative turntablist knocking off rivals at Dallas' Sound Wars battles in the mid-nineties, Nick has worked hard to encompass a broad vision of ability, and a verbose sense of instrumentality, to match his already fruitful passion for music. These days you can find Nick performing/touring with the jazz band BLAZE, or hear him rocking dance floors at various downtown clubs. Most recently, Nick has been enjoying the success of his latest full length release, "Improving Silence". The record has garnered him international attention and sales have been phenomenal. His progression as an artist and deejay is quite obvious, but his job is never done. Always in exploration of advancing his full turntablist potentials, and with countless projects on the horizon, Nick has grown into a unique artist, in a constant search of endeavors new and improved. Stay tuned, because this is only the beginning.
