On this Thursday bonus episode we are going to play the interview from episode 174 from September 2018 with writer and director Paulina Lagudi who talks about making her first feature Mail Order Monster after having co produced a feature before hand. I thought Paulina was a good match for Zoe because they both talk about making their first feature and they had both produced a feature before writing and directing their own solo features. After that we play another round of The Game, enjoy! A big note for all listeners! Apple podcasts has frozen all of your downloads of the show which is killing our numbers! The Other 50% - a herstory of hollywood

For this last episode of this year, I sat down with Paulina Lagudi. She is a filmmaker who just released Mail Order Monster, which is available on all the streaming services. I gotta tell you, this woman is an inspiration. She's an artist, a savvy business person, and a force to be reckoned with. We talked about her film and its distribution, female empowerment of the “right kind,” setting boundaries, martial arts and growing up the only girl in a family of men with a single father and how instrumental her step mother turned out to be.

This month marks the 25th anniversary of Mrs. Doubtfire. A movie revolving around a divorced dad who was simply not allowed to see his kids whenever he wanted. So in an effort to spend more quality time with them, he dressed up like a nanny and landed a job inside his ex-wife’s house to help raise these kids. In 1993, Robin Williams sold us on this premise as whimsical, charming, even oddly supportive. But in 2018, Mrs. Doubtfire is terrifying! This week, we look at films that featured a plot or subplot that we initially found sweet, but after taking off our nostalgia goggles, we find it quite disturbing. Also this week: reviews of Bohemian Rhapsody and Mail Order Monster, debate if this R-rated comic book genre is getting carried away, discuss how John Carpenter’s They Live has endured for 30 years, and much more. Discussed on this episode (0:00 – 32:04)Film and TV News: Reboots and sequels aplenty, Walking Dead launches a new universe, Birds of Prey takes on an R-rating | They Live Turns 30 (32:05 – 49:39) Reviews: Bohemian Rhapsody and Mail Order Monster | Upcoming Releases (49:40 – 1:22:22) From The Outside In Topic: Nostalgic Movie Plots That Are More Disturbing With Age (1:22:23 – 1:32:55) Recommendations | Closing Email topic suggestions or episode reactions to feedback@thehollywoodoutsider.com Please support The Hollywood Outsider and gain immediate access to exclusive bonus content, including a BONUS monthly episode and Bad Movie Night, by visiting Patreon.com/ TheHollywoodOutsider Be sure to join our Facebook Group Join our Fantasy Movie League! Part of my reason for starting the website, and later, this podcast, was because I didn't see families like my own — an usually amicable post-divorce family with co-parents living next door for years — reflected in mainstream media. When she was growing up, my guest for this episode, Paulina Lagudi, had a similar experience comparing her own family to the ones she saw on TV and in movies. Well, today she's able to do something about that. Paulina is a filmmaker who has created a movie called “Mail Order Monster” or “M.O.M.” for short. The film tackles grief, blended family and step-parenting in a way that puts a modern and perfectly imperfect family in a positive light. Show notes Love our work?
