I'm beyond delighted to have Alice D. Domar, Ph.D back on the podcast to talk about how to support fertility with mind/body strategies and techniques. Dr. Domar established the first ever Mind/Body Center for Women's Health ~ as well as the very first Mind/Body Program for Fertility. She now teaches people strategies to reduce anxiety, depression, and distress through relaxation, mindfulness, cognitive restructuring, and yoga. Research continues to show that mind/body infertility programs not only improves psychological symptoms, but also increases pregnancy rates. Dr. Domar received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Health Psychology from Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Ferkauf School of Professional Psychology of Yeshiva University. Her post-doctoral training was at Beth Israel Hospital, Deaconess Hospital, and Children’s Hospital, all in Boston. She has conducted research on infertility, breast cancer, menopausal symptoms, ovarian cancer, and premenstrual syndrome. Dr. Domar has earned an international reputation as one of the country’s top women’s health experts. She is currently the Executive Director of the Domar Centers for Mind/Body Health, and the Director of Mind/Body Services at Boston IVF. She is an associate professor, part-time, of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology at Harvard Medical School, and a senior staff psychologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Domar has compiled an impressive list of accomplishments as a best-selling author, media authority and sought-after public speaker. She is the author of numerous books including “Six Steps to Increased Fertility” and “Conquering Infertility”, and was on the Board of Directors of Resolve, the National Infertility Association, for ten years. She has been on the Board of Experts for LLuminari and a columnist for Redbook and Health magazines. She was also a featured expert on the online social health network BeWell.com. Three of her books have been finalists for the Books for a Better Life Award. She was also the Series Editor for a series of mind/body books by Harvard Medical Publications/Simon and Schuster. She is the narrator of the DVD’s “Stress and Relaxation Explained” and “Infertility Explained”, both of which won silver Telly Awards. Toni Bankston, LCSW, BACS serves as the Clinical Director of the Baton Rouge Children's Advocacy Center developing and implementing trauma-focused programs for youth impacted by violent crime. She also works with the The Center for Mind-Body Medicine, D.C. as Faculty and Global Trauma Relief Team Member in the U.S., Haiti, Israel and the Gaza territories. She is also the co-founder of the Mind-Body Center of Louisiana which furthers the mission of the CMBM in South Louisiana by providing wellness through mind-body skills to healthcare professionals and in response to disaster. Her 27 years as a child and family therapist has focused on trauma, particularly with exposure to trauma of disadvantaged populations including children and teens and homeless families. She has worked as a first responder in several disaster settings, including Katrina, Rita, and the Horizon Oil Spill, and has published articles related to this work.
