Welcome to Goals with Soul! This week, I'm joined by Jodine Buydens, an equine-facilitated coach and nature-based leadership mentor who helps coaches, healers, and purpose-driven entrepreneurs reconnect with their inner truth through the intuitive power of horses. With the world as her classroom, Jodine learned her leadership skills from 1200 lb animals, mastered her mental performance with mindfulness, and knows that real shifts happen when we include the nervous system, whether we are breaking old patterns or creating new ones. Jodine is passionate about supporting purpose-driven leaders as they explore the furthest edges of their potential, and align with the deeper truths of who they are. After all, we often look outside ourselves for answers, but what if the wisdom we need is already within? In this episode, we dive into: - Navigating fear and ambition: how horses teach us to hold both at once and still move forward.- Self-trust and leadership: how equine coaching helps coaches and healers show up with clarity and confidence. - Practical tools: like naming your inner critic to separate fear from truth. - The wisdom of nervous system regulation: why horses are powerful teachers in setting boundaries and managing emotions. - Empaths & energy sensitivity: how to discern what's yours versus what you're picking up from others. Jodine also shares a simple but powerful mindfulness practice called sensing in, a quick exercise that grounds you in the present and brings instant clarity. I didn't know what to do, and somehow divine intervention, a voice said to me, my inner voice said to me, my intuition, if you don't stop and you don't make a change, nothing's going to happen, and this is going to be your life, and you will die.” – Deborah [00:12:42] “Even if we know what we should do, we don't always do it. We don't honor our dignity, value our self-worth, value ourselves. We need to value ourselves and treat ourselves with care and with love.” – Deborah [00:24:52] “Everybody struggles with imposter syndrome. Once you realize that, you just have to give it up.” – Deborah [00:27:00] “Imposter syndrome might be there, but we have to slowly work through it. Short Description Dr. Mike Woo-Ming shares his six-step GG6 system for goal setting, designed to help physicians overcome burnout and take control of their careers and lives. Learn how to set impactful goals, create actionable plans, and reassess to stay on track. Show Summary In this episode of BootstrapMD, Dr. Mike Woo-Ming revisits his GG6 system—a framework he designed to help physician entrepreneurs set and achieve meaningful goals. He breaks down the six steps, emphasizing the importance of specificity, deadlines, actionable systems, and periodic reassessment. By applying this method, listeners can regain control of their time, reduce burnout, and take steps toward building their dream careers and lives. 3 Actionable Takeaways [1] Prioritize Your Goals with Impact in MindStart by listing 10–20 goals across different areas of your life (career, finances, relationships, personal growth). Then, narrow it down to the top 3 that will have the most profound impact on your happiness, financial security, or career fulfillment. [2] Make Your Goals SMARTTransform general aspirations into Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound goals. For example, instead of saying "I want to make more money," set a goal like "Generate $10,000/month from my consulting business by December 31, 2025." [3] Establish a System and Stick to ItCreate a structured system to break your goals into smaller actionable steps. Allocate specific time each week to work on these steps and be disciplined about protecting that time from distractions. Regularly reassess your progress and be willing to pivot if necessary. Jeannette discusses the essential skills of receiving and giving feedback, emphasising its importance in personal and professional growth. She offers twelve practical tips—six for effectively receiving feedback and six for delivering it constructively. Listeners are encouraged to actively listen, process feedback, and take actionable steps to improve, while also learning how to prepare, choose the right environment, and support others when giving feedback KEY TAKEAWAYS Receiving and giving feedback is a valuable process that can enhance personal and professional growth, even if it feels uncomfortable at times. Six Steps to Receive Feedback: Listen: Absorb what is being said without jumping to defensiveness. Process: Reflect on the feedback and identify any recurring themes. Take Action: Decide how to respond to the feedback constructively. Review Progress: Monitor changes and improvements based on the feedback. Seek Follow-Up Feedback: Proactively ask for additional feedback to gauge progress. Continuous Refinement: Engage in ongoing personal development based on the feedback received. Prepare thoroughly before giving feedback, considering the desired outcome and the context in which the feedback will be delivered. Ensure that feedback is given in a quiet, distraction-free setting where the recipient can focus and respond appropriately. After giving feedback, check in with the individual to see how they are processing it and offer support as needed, fostering a constructive dialogue BEST MOMENTS "Feedback is the breakfast of champions and it should be received in silence." "When you have a more of a maturity about receiving and giving feedback, it can honestly be super valuable in terms of how you come across." "The great thing about feedback is you decide what to do with it." "Don't assume a response. You don't know how the person will respond to what you have to say and you may get some surprises." "We want to help. We're giving feedback because we care both about ourselves, but about the other person." “Anything is fixable,” say Frances Frei and Anne Morriss. As cohosts of the Fixable podcast, they're typically the ones doing the fixing, but on this special episode, they turn to Matt Abrahams for tips on what to do when communication breaks down. Both Frei and her wife Morriss are public speakers; the former, a professor at Harvard Business School, the latter, a CEO and best-selling author. As they discuss with Matt Abrahams, perfectionism and self-doubt can often creep in, both during preparation before speaking and after the fact. According to Matt, effective communication is about “connection, not perfection.” Instead of putting pressure on ourselves to “get it right,” Matt encourages us to shift our focus from ourselves to those we're speaking to. “Whenever you're communicating, you're in service of the audience you're communicating to,” he says. “It's not about you, it's about them and what you can do for them.”In this podcast episode, Frei, Morriss, and Matt explore frameworks and strategies for speaking more spontaneously, building confidence, managing anxiety, and course-correcting when communication goes awry.Episode Reference Links:Fixable Podcast: Website Anne Morriss & Frances Frei: Website Anne Morriss: LinkedIn Frances Frei: HBS ProfileConnect:Email Questions & Feedback >>> thinkfast@stanford.eduEpisode Transcripts >>> Think Fast Talk Smart WebsiteNewsletter Signup + English Language Learning >>> FasterSmarter.ioThink Fast Talk Smart >>> LinkedIn Page, Instagram, YouTubeMatt Abrahams >>> LinkedInStanford GSB >>> LinkedIn & TwitterChapters:(00:00:00) IntroductionMatt Abrahams introduces the episode, a collaboration with the Fixable podcast hosted by Frances Frei and Anne Morriss.(00:04:58) Mission of Spontaneous Speaking Matt discusses his focus on helping people communicate more effectively in unplanned situations.(00:07:10) Audience Centered Communication The importance of focusing on the audience to reduce anxiety and improve communication.(00:09:51) Connection Over Perfection Prioritizing connection over perfection in communication.(00:11:00) Benefits of Effective Communication The benefits of improving spontaneous speaking skills.(00:12:17) Building a Communication Infrastructure An outline of helping organizations create supportive communication environments.(00:13:33) Six Steps to Better Communication A six-step process to improve spontaneous communication, covering mindset and messaging.(00:16:55) Managing Communication Anxiety Strategies for managing anxiety in high-stakes communication situations.(00:21:00) Handling Blanking Out How to handle and recover from blanking out during a speech or presentation.(00:25:21) Real-Life Experience A recent experience of underestimating time during a keynote and how the situation was managed.(00:27:44) The Value of Preparation The importance of preparation in both spontaneous and planned communication.(00:28:43) AMP and Building ConfidenceThree immediate strategies for reducing anxiety right before speaking.(00:31:53) Conclusion See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
