How to be Emotionally Resilient During Fertility Treatment with guest Abbe Feder of Incircle Fertility

"Is it possible to become emotionally resilient, so that you can handle all of the things that you face as a fertility patient without feeling overwhelmed and triggered constantly?" I get this question all. the. time, and today I'm excited to have Abbe Feder of Incircle Fertility on to share tips, tricks, and mindset shifts with us! Tip 1: Be kind to yourself, and know that things like baby announcements, or nosy questions from family members are triggering to many fertility patients. That doesn't make it easier, but it might help to know you're not alone in the feelings. Some of these triggers can come from unexpected places. Tip 2: To work through triggers: talk about the trigger, acknowledge the trigger, become aware of what triggers you, and then "figure out what works best for you to get past the trigger" when they do come up. Tip 3: Allow yourself to feel your emotions. Don't push them aside. Find a trusted friend, family member, spouse, partner or coach to help you. They don't have to understand what you're going through, the key is that they are able to listen to you and let you talk. Abbe Feder is a fertility coach and the founder and CEO of InCircle Fertility. She and her husband host the podcast Maculate Conception, and she is the creator of the (In)Fertility Cards of Affirmation. We had the pleasure of meeting at a panel with Fertility Rally and I could not be more excited to have her on the show to talk about how to be emotionally resilient during fertility treatment. Today, we're talking about what it means to be a fertility coach, how to find support for your journey, and how to develop more resiliency when facing the ups and downs of being a fertility patient. Rapamycin is changing what's possible in fertility treatment, and in this episode, I'm breaking down exactly how. Originally discovered in the soil of Easter Island and long used by the longevity community to extend healthspan, rapamycin is now showing real promise for improving egg quality, increasing blastocyst formation rates, and helping women over 40 (even over 45) get pregnant.  Joining me is Dr. Steve Palter, founder and medical and scientific director of Gold Coast IVF in Woodbury, New York. We cover the science of how it works at the cellular level, the landmark placebo-controlled trial out of China that gave us published data for the first time, my own case series accepted to PCRS, and how I'm now using Rapamycin for egg freezing patients, not just last-resort IVF cases. We also get discuss the Vibrant Trial on ovarian aging, dosing protocols, and why resistance training and protein intake matter for fertility and longevity.  In this episode, we cover: • What rapamycin is, where it comes from, and why it's become the darling of the longevity world • How rapamycin may improve egg quality by regulating protein synthesis and cellular repair in aging ovarian cells • The landmark placebo-controlled trial out of China showing significantly higher pregnancy rates in poor-prognosis patients • My own case series (including patients over 45 getting pregnant) accepted to PCRS • Who is (and isn't) a good candidate, and how to have that conversation with your doctor • Why dosing protocols are still evolving and what current regimens look like • The underrated role of resistance training and protein intake for fertility, PCOS, and longevity Read the full show notes, and find the full length episode here. when people first hear about DOR, they believe that that the "D" of DOR means "depleted" ovarian reserve. This is not true! To set the record straight, DOR means "decreased" ovarian reserve. The other thing that happens when the word "decreased" gets mixed up for "depleted," is that many people next assume that getting a DOR diagnosis means that they will need to use donor eggs in order to get pregnant. This is also not true! With DOR, you still have eggs, you just don't have as many eggs as you once did. In this episode, I'll be sharing more about DOR. At some point, every one with a uterus will go through it. When Is It Time to See a Fertility Expert?

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 5, 2026 28:26

If you're eager to get pregnant and are wondering if it's time to see a fertility specialist, you might be right. There are a number of factors to take into account when deciding whether it's time to see a fertility specialist. Of course there are a lot more details about each of these items in the podcast episode today, but here is a sneak peek of the 6 reason that may be telling you it's time to see a fertility expert: 1. If you're over 35: schedule an appointment if you've been trying for 6 months.  2. If you're over 37: consider seeing a fertility specialist (and not wait before seeking professional advice) to get your TUSHY checked.  3. If you have irregular cycles, make an appointment to see what may be causing that irregularity..  4. Painful periods. If you think your periods are more painful than average, or you are worried about the pain you're experiencing, you may suffer from endometriosis, which can make it more difficult to get pregnant. A fertility expert can help with a diagnosis and treatment.. 5. Heavy bleeding. If your periods seem especially heavy, this may be a sign that there is something blocking your ability to get pregnant. 6. Male factor or sperm issues. It takes an egg and a sperm to make a baby so if your male partner or sperm donor has a chronic medical problems, is drinking, smoking or partaking in drugs,  or is overweight, a fertility specialist can help determine if that is playing a role. Thompson: a family medicine and public health physician specializing in women's and children's health, and the author of Held Together, a deeply personal and collaborative memoir that weaves her own fertility and pregnancy complications with the stories of 21 other women navigating infertility, loss, and complex paths to building families. Becca brings a rare dual perspective to this conversation: she has lived this journey as both a physician and a patient, surviving life-threatening pregnancy complications even as she was training to care for others. Together, we explore the raw and often unspoken emotional terrain of the fertility journey, including the shame, isolation, and identity shifts that so many of my patients experience. We talk about how storytelling and community can be profoundly healing, why healers need healing too, and how grief and hope can coexist on the path to building the family you dream of, even when that path looks nothing like you planned. In this episode, we cover: How Dr. Thompson's own string of pregnancy losses shaped her both as a patient and as a physician Why sharing personal stories about infertility and loss is one of the most powerful antidotes to shame and isolation How grief and hope can coexist, and why Held Together is ultimately an empowering book The way infertility reshapes identity, and how women can reclaim a sense of power and agency during reproductive challenges What it means to "heal the healer"  How non-traditional paths to parenthood (adoption, surrogacy, fostering, and more) expand and redefine what family truly means Practical guidance on finding support: from therapy and journaling to community groups and simply knowing when it's okay to sit with uncertainty Resources: Dr. Rebecca N. Using the SpermQT Test to Complete Your Path to Fertility with guest Dr. Kristin Brogaard

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 1, 2026 20:00

Today, Dr. Kristin Brogaard is joining me today to talk about the Path Fertility SpermQT test. I'm so excited to have her share about the test, because as you'll hear her say "lots of infertility goes undiagnosed because men go undiagnosed, and when men go undiagnosed, women go through procedures that will not work." (Who else wants to see this on a bumper sticker?) While sperm were long considered to be just carriers of DNA, it turns out they are a lot more complex than that! Understanding the sperm side of the equation can help anyone trying to conceive better understand what's going on, and help them figure out the best plan to get pregnant. A few exciting highlights from our discussion: Male and sperm epigenetics play a big role in getting pregnant, and having a successful live birth. The SpermQT test can tell someone if their sperm is excellent, average, or poor quality. - Knowing this information can help you and your doctor determine the most efficient and appropriate next steps in your treatment or protocols. Understanding the quality of the sperm can lead to better outcomes. If it is "excellent," there is an increased likelihood of IUI working, even in cases where doctors thought sperm might be the issue with getting pregnant. If sperm quality is "poor," you may want to try making lifestyle changes to improve sperm quality, and retest. - Poor sperm quality often correlates with other longer term health issues for men, as sperm acts as a "canary in the coal mine." (an early warning system) Dr. Kristin Brogaard has a PhD from Northwestern University where she developed a novel epigenetic technology that allowed for a more accurate understanding of gene expression in health and disease cells. She is now the chief scientific officer of Path Fertility, whose goal is to raise the standard in male reproductive health, starting with male infertility. Thank you for joining us, Kristin! Dr. Diane Tober specializes in reproductive technologies, bioethics, and the commodification of the body, and her groundbreaking book Eggonomics brings all of that expertise together in one essential read for anyone curious about the egg and sperm donation industry. We dig into one of the most compelling stories from her book: the journey of Allyn, a woman who navigated the egg donation process on her own terms. Through Allyn's experience, Dr. Tober and I explore what it really means to donate thoughtfully with full information, a clear sense of your own values, and an eye toward the humans who may one day be born from that decision. This conversation is about empowerment, reproductive justice, and reimagining a system that too often prioritizes commerce over connection. In this episode, we cover: What prospective egg donors should research before committing to any clinic or agency How one donor's experience revealed racial bias in the egg donation industry The difference between anonymous and open donation and why it matters for donor-conceived people How hearing from donor-conceived individuals changed one donor's perspective on financial compensation and identity The concept of "egg sharing" as an alternative model for donation Why grounding egg donation in reproductive justice and human rights leads to better outcomes for everyone Dr. Tober's vision for a more transparent, ethical, and connection-centered donation industry Resources: Eggonomics by Dr. Diane Tober, available on Amazon Dr. Diane Tober's site  Subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4w20dXVKYd9A81PTNkyzXQ Join The IVF Class: https://the-egg-whisperer-school.teachable.com/p/the-ivf-class/ Read the blog: https://draimee.org/the-show Would you like to learn more about IVF?Click here to join Dr. Aimee for The IVF Class. But I'm guessing that when you think of those milestones in life, my bet is that nowhere in that world are you thinking about me — a fertility doctor?  It's just not happening. And here's the thing: while I love my patients and have been known to tell a good joke or two, it's my honest hope that I never have to meet you. That's because deep down, I want to PREVENT infertility. My job as a doctor is to do my best to ensure I educate you enough that many of you will never need to visit me. Of course, many of you may become my patients, and I truly do love the work I get to do. Today on the podcast, I'm making the bold move to outline how you can go about not becoming my patient. I know there are a lot of fertility myths out there, and some can be downright perplexing if you're trying to do everything you can to have a successful pregnancy. And, when you've been a fertility doctor for a while, let me tell you, you will hear it all. So in this episode, I'm tackling TWENTY of the most common fertility myths in a little thing I like to call "Fertility: Fact or Fiction." I love talking about these types of things because once you know the truth, you also have a better idea of what may be happening in your own body. I think most people now realize that sperm does in fact matter when you're TTC. But, do you need both of your fallopian tubes? Is marijuana safe when you're TTC? Can someone born without a uterus have a uterine transplant? Is an ovarian cyst something to be concerned about? Of course, these questions matter, and I want everyone to feel comfortable asking their doctor about them (and for answers to the above: no, no, yes, no). Do you have questions about IVF, and what to expect? The relationship between sleep and fertility isn't something that's talked about very much. I'm excited to have sleep expert, Dr. Sara Nowakowski, joining me today. We all know sleep is important, but did you know that sleep helps you recover from illness and rebound from life challenges? It also helps with mood regulation and decreases depression and anxiety, and it has been shown to help memory consolidation. Plus, there is scientific evidence to show that sleep impacts hormones, has varying effects during the different phases of a woman's reproductive life (when trying to conceive, during pregnancy, and during perimenopause and menopause). Sara is sharing some of the findings about this, along with some tips on improving sleeping habits. Sara Nowakowski, PhD, is an Associate Professor at Baylor College of Medicine and treats patients with insomnia and other sleep disorders at the Baylor Sleep Medicine Clinic. She is also a Research Health Scientist at the Houston VA, where she conducts research on sleep and women's health. Thank you for joining me, Sara!
