In this episode, hosts Dr. Abby Eblen from Nashville Fertility Center, Dr. Susan Hudson from Texas Fertility Center, and Dr. Carrie Bedient from the Fertility Center of Las Vegas speak with Richard Kellner, founder of the Polycystic Kidney Disease-Free Alliance, and Natasha Rogina, the organization's chief spokesperson. Together, they discuss polycystic kidney disease (PKD) and how pre-implantation genetic testing-monogenic (PGT-M) can help families prevent passing this genetic condition to their children. Natasha, who has PKD herself, shares her personal decision to pursue IVF with PGT-M to ensure her children would not inherit the disease. PKD is a progressive condition that typically leads to kidney failure by midlife, often requiring dialysis or a transplant. Because many insurers do not cover genetic testing, the PKD-Free Alliance offers grants to help families access PGT-M to prevent passing the trait to their children. The PKD-Free Alliance's goal is to raise awareness and let couples know this option exists. This insightful conversation explores genetic inheritance, reproductive choices, and the future of PKD prevention, offering hope to families facing this challenging condition.

When seeing patients, I always recommend people to gather their Fertility TEAM, and the T is for therapist. I'm so excited to have Dr. Loree Johnson share her valuable info with all of you today. In this conversation, we're going to be talking about some of the mental health impacts of being a fertility patient. I'll be asking Dr. Johnson about the difference between Infertility Stress and Infertility Trauma, we're going to talk about grief as it relates to fertility (and how it's different than other grief), and she'll share how to navigate the stress of being pregnant after having loss. Dr. Loree Johnson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with more than 25 years of experience as a clinician, educator, and clinical supervisor. After her first-hand experience with fertility challenges taught her the importance of self-care for managing the physical and emotional stress that come with the fertility process, coupled with the lack of representation she saw of therapists of color in the fertility space, Dr. Loree found her purpose supporting individuals and couples on their path to parenthood. Join Dr. Laurice Bou Nemer from IVF Florida along with hosts Dr. Carrie Bedient from the Fertility Center of Las Vegas, Dr. Abby Eblen from Nashville Fertility Center, and Dr. Susan Hudson from Texas Fertility Center for a crucial topic: how age impacts fertility. As women age, both the number and quality of eggs decline, especially after 35. By 40, fertility is significantly reduced, and after 45, natural conception is rare. The doctors break down what happens to egg quality with age, including how older eggs are more likely to have chromosomal abnormalities, increasing the risk of miscarriage or genetic issues. They also tackle the common myth that healthy living can override the biological clock and shed light on the misleading narratives around celebrity pregnancies. This honest conversation is essential listening for anyone considering their fertility future—don't miss it!This episode was brought to you from ReceptivaDx and IVF Florida.
Today, I'm delighted to be joined on The Egg Whisperer Show by Marc Sherman of Organic Conceptions, a company he founded after a 20-year career in corporate America. The idea came after he and his wife Erin struggled with infertility, decided to adopt, and then unexpectedly found themselves pregnant. Realizing that this phenomenon occurs regularly, they decided to conduct the first-ever research project to better understand the insights, patterns, and commonalities from similar stories. They partnered with Ph.D. Kate Webster and conducted a multi-year study that uncovered 9 key emotional transitions that were common across these stories, and that are required for conception. Their program, The Journey to Parenthood & Beyond, helps couples identify, name, address, and overcome the suffering involved when struggling to conceive, resulting in healthier patients and better outcomes. Send us a textIn this episode of Taco Bout Fertility Tuesday, Dr. Mark Amols breaks down one of the most misunderstood aspects of fertility treatment: what PGT (preimplantation genetic testing) really does—and what it doesn't. Contrary to popular belief, PGT doesn't improve embryo quality. It simply helps prioritize which embryos to transfer first, potentially reducing the number of failed attempts and emotional setbacks.Using relatable analogies (yes, even a chocolate box), Dr. Amols explains how PGT can be a powerful tool in certain scenarios—especially for women over 38, those banking embryos, and patients facing recurrent implantation failure. He also highlights the emotional toll of repeated IVF failures and why faster answers matter, even when the financial cost is covered.
In this episode, Dr. Abby Eblen from Nashville Fertility Center, Dr. Susan Hudson from Texas Fertility Center, and Dr. Carrie Bedient from the Fertility Center of Las Vegas discuss potential challenges during an IVF cycle. We cover issues that may prevent you from starting, such as ovarian cysts or improperly suppressed hormones. We also discuss cycle cancellations due to a dominant follicle and when a cycle may still continue. Medication adjustments during IVF, possible ovulation before retrieval, and side effects from stimulation medications are explored. We break down complications that can arise during egg retrieval, including difficulties accessing the ovaries and why eating after midnight could lead to cancellation. Additionally, we discuss ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), a rare but serious condition, and what to watch for. Finally, we examine potential setbacks in embryo development, including cases where no embryos are available for genetic testing. IVF is a complex process, and while challenges can arise, understanding these possibilities can help you feel more prepared. Tune in to learn what to expect and how your fertility team works to navigate these obstacles. This episode was brought to you from ReceptivaDx and IVF Florida.

People seem to always be full of advice about fertility, and while most of it comes from a place of wanting to be helpful, not all of it is well informed or welcome. When you are trying to conceive, the last thing you want to hear is that you need to “relax.” Or “go on a vacation, drink some wine, and let nature run its course.” Am I right? In this episode, I'm sharing the types of treatments that fertility doctors offer to patients, including information about fertility pills, fertility shots, IUI, and IVF. I'm also outlining some of the natural things you can do to improve your chances of conceiving, like salt floats, hypnotherapy, and self care. It's another expert minisode! Today, Ali is talking to award-winning doctor Dr. Joshua U. Klein, co-founder of Extend Fertility, about a groundbreaking new fertility treatment called Fertilo, by Gameto. Dr. Klein (who, as you may know, is also the doctor who helped Ali and Vince have Sonny via IVF), explains exactly what Fertilo is and how it works in terms of egg freezing and IVF. He explains how Fertilo can shorten IVF and egg freezing cycles, who the best candidates are, and what research and clinical studies have been done to back the efficacy of Fertilo. "If Fertilo is working as we hope it is and it seems like it is, we can shorten and minimize both the duration and the amount of medication that women are doing," he says. "Egg freezing could become a three to five day thing. This is one of the first things in the last decade that has some serious groundbreaking potential, and I'm excited to be a part of it." He also talks about other innovations he and the team at Extend are excited about, and who would play him in a biopic.
