If we're honest, most of us probably don't think of ourselves as missionaries. We tend to think that term is reserved for those like the ones we've been hearing from in our GO Moments this month - usually people involved in reaching past their own culture, be it overseas or intergenerational or just cross-culturally in our country. But reality is: Scripture calls those who are under the New Covenant "Ambassadors;" people who GO and as they are going share the good news of Jesus.But that's a new way of thinking for much of Western Christianity. Unfortunately we are surrounded by a "me-centered" culture that often - as I have observed - slips into that same mentality. So when we hear GO Moment presentations, it's very easy to get into the mindset of Missions is THERE - not necessarily here; and Missions is THEM - not necessarily me.In other words, like it or not, we have a Missional God. He was the first to send people out as His ambassadors, His representatives in this world. He did it with Adam in the Garden of Eden. He did it with Abraham, the Father of Faith. He did it on the Day of Pentecost as the HS empowered the disciples to share the Gospel with people from all over the world. And as we read in Revelation, He will one day have representatives around the throne, worshipers from every tribe, people, tongue, and nation.And Missions isn't just a NT thing. And today I want to focus mainly on a Psalm that shows us the mission of God that is timeless and part of the intent behind God's creation of the world, and more specifically of mankind.

We're looking at what it really means to invest in what matters. Jesus taught that our money follows our values so if we care about lasting impact, it should show in how we live and give. This message is about shifting our focus from short-term stuff to things that make a difference forever,our growth. Let's rethink our financial faithfulness in light of God's design for His Church.

Not every Christian is a missionary. And not every place a Christian goes is a mission field, even when doing evangelism. We must reserve the special meaning of a missionary lest, as has been said, when everything is missions, nothing is missions. As we go into Missions Week, I want to start out by challenging us to pray that we might see the call to missions as the greatest and most beautiful reality and hope that this world could ever imagine. The news constantly bombards us with story after story of heartache, evil, violence, and war. The hopelessness of the world around us can only be countered by the truest and greatest news in the world – The King has returned to reclaim his world. Yet, here is an interesting thought that we ought to consider on Missions Week: Maybe, it isn't just the world that needs missions. Maybe, it's the church that needs missions. Maybe, there are things in our hearts and lives that cannot change until we find ourselves in the position of being Christ's ambassadors and experience not simply how desperate the world is for Christ but how desperate we are for Him as well. Missions aren't simply the place where God changes the world. Missions are the place where God changes me.  The sermon this week is called “A Heart for Missions.” I am praying not simply that we will have a heart of missions at Waterbrooke. I am praying that we also might have a heart from missions – the heart of Christ for broken sinners like you and like me. Christ loves to minister to His people as He ministers through His people. He meets our deepest needs as we seek to minister to the deepest needs of others. Let's pray for that.
