Questions? Comments? Text Us!In Episode 272 of God: An Autobiography, The Podcast, Jerry Martin and Scott Langdon ask a deceptively simple question: What is experience? Is it just a stream of sensations passing through us — or is it the unfolding of meaning across a lifetime? When we look back at our lives, do we merely remember events, or do we discover layers of significance we couldn't see before?Drawing from Scott's recent What's Your Spiritual Story episode and Jerry's Radically Personal series, the conversation turns to the radical uniqueness of every human life. No one has ever been duplicated. Every consciousness is singular. What might it mean, then, to say: “You are the experience God is having”?Through reflections on theater, personal memory, Jane Austen's Emma, the play Proof, and the philosophical idea of “thisness” (haecceitas), Jerry and Scott explore whether awareness itself is the meeting point between the human and the divine.Experience changes us. Meaning deepens. And perhaps consciousness is not merely personal — but participatory in something far greater. As you listen, consider your own experience. Where has meaning deepened for you? And what might it reveal about the divine presence within your life?Related Episodes:270. Recovering the Depth of Experience in a Flattened World- Radically Personal271. Where do we find purpose and meaning? Do you find meaning in your job, or by gaining knowledge and wisdom. Do you see value in money and possessions or maybe in entertainment and pleasurable experiences? Solomon was the wisest man on earth and he ultimately concluded that all these things were meaningless. Not because he didn't find satisfaction in a job well done, enjoy fun experiences, or see the benefit of wisdom, but because they all have their limits. He couldn't take any of his possessions with him when he died. The more knowledge he gained, the more evil he was aware of, which only brought him heartache. There was no way to be happy all the time so if that the purpose of life, it was a disappointment. In the end, the only thing that matters is the things that will last forever, which are the things of God. If we live for Him on this earth, then He will give us abundant and eternal life.
What's the point of life? Do we really have a purpose? What are we actually here for? These are questions most of us carry at some point—often quietly, beneath the busyness of everyday life. In this episode, Paul shares his own experience of searching for meaning, and how an unexpected crash and burn stripped away the answers he thought he needed, revealing something far more honest and grounded beneath it all. This is not a conversation about fixing yourself or finding a grand purpose. It's an exploration of what becomes visible when the search itself begins to fall away. If you're feeling uncertain about your direction, questioning your purpose, or sensing that there must be more to life than striving and survival, this episode offers a calm, reflective perspective to explore what you may already be closer to than you realise. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About Me I'm Paul Sheppard, I am Coach who is on a mission to help people break free from overthinking and reconnect with a calmer, clearer and more confident way of being. Through simple insights, practical guidance and meditations, I will help you discover who you truly are and what you are capable of beyond the thinking mind. In times of uncertainty, we need reminders of what truly matters. Today's episode is a profound lesson in hope, love, and perspective—one that gently calls us back to presence, connection, and grace. This is a re-release of my conversation with Bill Valentine, who passed away peacefully at home on October 21, 2022. I felt deeply called to bring this episode forward again. It's exactly what we need right now. This conversation isn't about fear or loss—it's about living without regret, being fully present because life is fleeting, and holding hope for the future. Many people say the most precious gift we can give is our time. Bill understood this in a way few ever do. When we recorded this episode, he was living with stage four terminal pancreatic cancer, and he chose to spend some of his remaining time with us.Bill was the only guest I've ever interviewed without doing extensive research beforehand. I wanted to meet him heart to heart. As it turns out, that choice mirrored one of his greatest realizations: who we truly are has nothing to do with what we've accomplished.Bill was a husband and a father of four boys. His focus had narrowed to what mattered most—love, relationships, and presence. In this conversation, Bill shares what his days looked like, what cancer was teaching him, and the lessons he wanted his sons to carry forward. He speaks openly about participating in his own living funeral—receiving love, hearing how he mattered, and discovering that he was, and always had been, enough. He also shares how psilocybin treatment helped him come to terms with his diagnosis and arrive at a simple, powerful truth: the meaning of life is to give and receive love. This is the legacy he left behind.“It shouldn't take a terminal disease for you to wake up to your obligation to live a full life—and at the center of that are other people.” — Bill ValentineBill was one of the greatest teachers to ever join Cracking Open. His wisdom, humility, and open heart continue to ripple outward.Rest in peace, Bill.Thank you for everything you taught us.

In this expansive and thought-provoking conversation, I'm joined by renowned herbalist, mycologist, and researcher Dr. Christopher Hobbs to explore one of the most important questions in health and healing today: Why do some people recover—while others don't? Dr. Hobbs shares insights from decades of clinical practice and research into medicinal mushrooms, herbal medicine, and integrative healing. Together we discuss the science behind mushroom medicine, why mushrooms should always be cooked, how to choose between supplements, tinctures, powders, or food, and what modern research is revealing about microdosing. We also explore the deeper layers of healing—belief systems, mindset, and meaning—and how these factors influence outcomes just as much as biology. The conversation weaves science with wisdom, offering a grounded yet expansive look at what true healing really requires. In this episode, you'll discover:✦ The real science behind medicinal mushrooms✦ What research says about microdosing mushrooms✦ Why mushrooms should always be cooked✦ How to choose between supplements, tinctures, powders, or food✦ The role belief systems and mindset play in healing outcomes✦ How herbal medicine fits into the future of integrative healthcare✦ Dr. Hobbs' reflections on healing, purpose, and the meaning of life You'll also hear about Dr. Hobbs' Magic Mushroom course at The Shift Network, his upcoming book, and his reflections on the meaning of life itself. If you're curious about natural healing, medicinal mushrooms, microdosing, or the deeper science behind recovery, this episode is for you. If this conversation resonates, take a moment to like, subscribe, and share it forward! ___

Antony and Luke complete their look at the flawed smorgasbord of ideas that is 1983's ‘Monty Python's The Meaning of Life', going through the remaining good, bad, ugly, extremely violent & completely gross scenes, and separating the top tier from the filler tracks. In this part, expect to hear discussion of galaxies, internal organs, death and anticlimax, not to mention the adventures of Mr Creosote, yet more French accents and the token Beatles reference Ultimately, were the Pythons too old? Too tired? Too middle-aged? Please make your own mind up, even though I've arguably now told you what to think twice… Most of all, enjoy! 'Film Gold' is on all the main podcast platforms. This Sunday we resume our sermon series entitled "By Their Fruits You Shall Know Them: 8 Core Characteristics of Authentic Followers of Jesus." In the first installment in this series, we saw that God has given each of us a Superpower -- the Superpower of Grace! This week, in the second installment, we'll explore what we're supposed to do with all that power God has given us. Our core questions will be: Why did God create me? According to Jesus, what's my reason for being?

We don't talk about the Spirit enough, and yet he is the most vital to our daily spiritual lives, for it is the Spirit who empowers these gifts in everyone for the common good, Paul says. “Gifted hands. Gifted eyes. Gifted ears.” No hand our eyes or ears do anything. It is the brain that makes it happen. If I go brain dead, my hands fall limp. If my brain goes, so goes the sermon from my mouth. I can look through binoculars but the binoculars do not see. They are the instrument through which I see. That the brain works through the organs. And that if the brain is not there, or if it stops functioning, then all the organs stop functioning too. In the same way, Christ is the Head of the Church. His Spirit works through our gifts, which is why its important to know your giftedness and act on it. The Spirit helps us have meaning and gifts to use.

January 11, 2026 - Eric Barton - Philippians 1:12-26 “The Meaning Of Life” by Bethel Downtown
More than a pleasure to ‘get back' (see what I did there?) with friend and podcast comrade Luke Thompson to round off our sort-of trilogy of Monty Python films (originally recorded on video, see below). This time round, Antony and Luke look at the flawed smorgasbord of ideas that is 1983's ‘Monty Python's The Meaning of Life', going scene-by-scene through the good, bad, ugly, extremely violent, completely gross and filler, and trying to find just what ismissing from this Python outing that made the previous two films close to flawless masterpieces (actually we say it right at the beginning but don't tell anyone…)In this part we give our general opinions of the film and look at some of the early scenes, so expect to hear about elderly pirates, sacred sperms and French ticklers. This is preceded by a bit of Python/Beatles comparisoning (that may not be a word) for our crossover audiencesMake your own mind up, even though I've already told you what to think…Most of all, enjoy!'Film Gold' is on all the main podcast platforms. Jesus Talks Money - Part 2: It's Not The Meaning Of Life If you could ask Jesus anything about money, and know that he’d answer you, what would you ask him? That hypothetical question can lead us in all kinds of directions but Jesus answers some of our questions about money before we’ve even asked. You might be shocked to learn what he said about money and even more shocked at how relevant it still is 2000 years later.

Share a commentMeaning doesn't arrive with speed, applause, or another adrenaline spike; it arrives when we finally face the One Shepherd and let His words both prod and secure us. We walk through Solomon's closing pages in Ecclesiastes 12 and trace a simple, beautiful arc: worship God, keep His commands, and prepare for the moment when every hidden thing comes to light. Along the way, we unpack why fearing God is not terror but nearness, how gratitude dismantles the myth of self-made lives, and why Scripture's “goads and nails” are the mercy we need to change direction and stay grounded. You'll hear how Solomon weighed, studied, and arranged sayings that still cut through modern noise, and why their power lies in their source—not clever phrasing but the voice of the Lord. We talk about reading widely without drifting, testing every idea against the truth that endures. Then we turn to the heart of obedience: not box-checking but love in motion, the kind of devotion Jesus describes when He ties affection to action. Finally, we look forward with sober joy, remembering that for those in Christ the debt is already nailed to the cross, and preparation becomes stewardship, not dread. If you're ready to move from drifting to direction—anchored by wisdom, animated by love, and aimed at eternity—this conversation will help you start now, not someday. Morning Mantra: "The meaning of life is to experience, to create, and to love, in whatever way is yours."We often wonder, "What is the meaning of my life?" I found the following definition somewhere- sorry I can't remember where- and it stuck with me. I hope you find it helpful.Life is about creating. Making things that didn't exist before – quilts, music, friendships, ideas, moments. It's the act of saying, “I was here. “Life is about connection. People are wired for each other. Even when it's messy. Even when it's confusing. The most meaningful moments humans have- our joy, our grief and love- most always involve someone else.Life is about noticing. Whatever consciousness is, it's this astonishing lens that lets you witness beauty in the small things; whether it be the patterns in old barn wood, the beauty of a dogwood bloom, or the whiskers on a cat. The meaning is often paying attention.Life is about the moments where you feel fully alive. For some, it's applause. For some, it's silence. For some, it's the first green leaf on a sampling they started from a seed. For others it's the first ray of sunshine on the horizon. It's whatever makes YOU feel.Life's meaning isn't one big answer – it's a mosaic of tiny ones.#BeWillingToExperienceLife #BeHappy #BeHorsey #BeHippie #HorseHippie #MorningMantra #inspirationalQuotes #MorningMotivation #Equestrian #HorseLover #QuotesToInspire #HorseHippieBrand #HorseHippieBoutique

"There is an extremely powerful force that, so far, science has not found a formal explanation to. It is a force that includes and governs all others and is even behind any phenomenon operating in the universe and has not yet been identified by us. This universal force is LOVE." Those are the words of Albert Einstein. In the book, You Just Have To Love the meaning of life, award winning author David Naster gives Nobel Prize winner Albert Einstein the explanation he searched a lifetime for. David weaves true stories of love, laughter, and what matters in life with the fictional story of how 13-year-old boy learns the meaning of life and love from his grandparents. Todd Donoho a former national sportscaster interviews David about the book. Order the book at – naster.com/laughstore
