I am happy to be back this week with an incredible episode talking about #AllWoman power with my girl Nicole Rayy. She recently dropped her latest EP "All Woman" and since we are in quarantine I thought it would be fitting to support my friend and her amazing release but also discuss what it has been like doing a release during these hard times (listen to the end to hear the song). We also delve into the issue of women in music and how we are still fighting for equality with men in the music industry specifically in country music. Nicole shares with us what she is working on right now and we can look forward to from her in the near future including live stream shows, a home music video and a special edition video of All Woman. We also discuss how terrible everyone is going to look come out of this as we have all not been able to dye our hair, do our nails etc. including ourselves. I have my girl Nicole Rayy on today to talk about her NEW single "Unfinished" (which you can hear at the end of the episode) and tell us the story that inspired the song - her real life relationship. We discuss how her and her boyfriend Damon came back together after years a part and are continuing their story after feeling like things were unfinished, which opens the door to the entire topic of unfinished relationships - are they good or bad? We delve into some of my past experiences including my "one that got away", how reaching out to one of my ex's was BAD news and would I want to continue or revisit any of my past relationships? We even get into how friendships can be unfinished in good and bad ways as well and how we are all on this crazy journey of life discovering ourselves and growing as people. Everything happens for a reason and is here to teach us something - good and bad. You can also listen to the end to hear Damon make a special little appearance! Dr. Mysterion and Steffi Kay blow our minds / Our problem with unions / Humble's blunt greeting / Singer - songwriter Nicole Rayy.
Ontario Country singer-songwriter Nicole Rayy is a musical powerhouse, known for possessing a flair for dynamic storytelling, soulful, honest lyrics, and electrifying performances. Having played at such festivals as TurtleFest, Manitoulin Country Fest, and the Calgary Stampede to venues big and small throughout the country, Nicole is much known for her foot-stomping, energetic live performances as she is for her incredible recorded works. To Nicole, creating music is a way of baring her soul to the world and honestly expressing her feelings, making for music that resonates with many of her listeners. While she would love to follow in the footsteps of country and pop stars Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and even Kelly Clarkson, Nicole has found that having the music set her own path is better than following the oft-travelled one. As a result, her music constantly evolves with each song, often combining influences from multiple genres of music from classic country to pop, dance, and rock, resulting in a fresh, unique sound that all manner of music lover can get excited about. Nicole joins me on the show to talk about her latest single Bow And Arrow and much more!
The Tumblin' Dice are a Country band from Victoria, B.C. currently promoting their debut EP. Even though their live shows feature both covers and originals, the band suffers no identity crisis as their own original tunes provide the same 'feel good' party experience as the songs they cover. Since their formation in 2011, The Tumblin' Dice are widely known as the official house band for the now famous "Gone Country Live" events held at Upstairs Cabaret in Victoria each month. It has been these performances that have enabled the band to gel musically and perfect their signature vocal harmonies. Repeatedly drawing huge crowds to see their live performances earned them spots opening for popular Canadian Country artists Aaron Pritchett and Brett Kissel. Recently back from Toronto where they performed at Canadian Music Week, they look forward to a busy summer highlighted by their second straight invitation to be the house band at Sunfest which is Vancouver Island's largest country music festival. Ontario Country artist Nicole Rayy is about to release her new single Country Wild to radio. She also shot a video for the song which will be available for viewing soon. The song is from her current EP Only Everything. While there are slower emotional song like Still See Blue Skies and the heartbreak ballad She Don't Know That Much, it's important to Nicole to record songs like Country Wild. As she explains: “Life isn’t always about heartbreak or relationships, sometimes you just want to party and have some fun with your friends.” Nicole will be partying and performing on stage during the Calgary Stampede in early July. She's also heading back out west in August for a mini tour with fellow Country artist Billy J White.
Nicole Rayy is a Canadian Country Music Singer/Songwriter. Nicole joins Country Music Made Me to discuss her early love of performing which included Dance, Musical Theatre and Livingroom performances for her family with her Spice Girls Sing-a-Long microphone. Nicole and Brendan talk about her time in University, dropping out after one year to pursue a musical career, and the homemade music video that led to her very first studio experience. Nicole describes what it's like building a career in music as an independent artist, the stress and mental health set-backs it can create, and the importance of constantly evolving and pushing yourself outside your comfort zone in an effort to grow and succeed within the industry. Finally, Nicole talks about her new single "House of Cards", recorded with Brian Howes at Armoury Studios in Vancouver, and the Female first initiatives she's created in an effort to help support other females in Canadian Country Music, including a regular All Women Showcase and an All Women Music Festival called HarmoniaFest.
