Renowned as the untamed force behind Lynyrd Skynyrd, Artimus Pyle's impactful double bass drumming was instrumental in defining the band's iconic sound. His breakthrough moment came at the Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam, where his authoritative drumming, initially credited simply as "Artimus Pyle, percussion," captured widespread attention. Further establishing himself as a sought-after session drummer, Pyle connected with acts such as Charlie Daniels and the Marshall Tucker Band, eventually crossing paths with Ronnie Van Zant and Ed King at Studio One in Doraville, Georgia. This fateful encounter paved the way for the creation of Saturday Night Special, leaving an indelible mark on Ronnie. Making his live debut at Jacksonville's Sgt Pepper's Club in October 1974, Pyle assumed the role of Skynyrd's drummer following the release of Second Helping, contributing to the band's subsequent four albums, including the legendary Street Survivors. Pyle survived the band's tragic 1977 plane crash that took six lives, including Steve and Cassie Gaines, along with the band's leader, Ronnie Van Zant. "This project has been a year in the making, but when the fans hear it they will understand why it took so long," says Len Snow, Get Joe Records president. "Artimus is legendary within the Southern Rock space. The music that Lynyrd Skynyrd made will always live as a part of rock history. He would replace their original drummer (Bob Burns) following the release of the group's second album, Second Helping, and performed with the band and on Skynyrd's subsequent four albums,Nuthin' Fancy, Gimme Back My Bullets, Street Survivors, and their live album, One More for the Road. Pyle was injured but survived the band's 1977 horrific plane crash that abruptly ended the lives of six people, including band members Steve and Cassie Gaines, and most notably, frontman and musical visionary Ronnie Van Zant.In 1979, the band began to reunite, first for the 5th Annual Charlie Daniels Volunteer Jam, and eventually, as the Rossington Collins Band (which included all the remaining band members and Pyle, plus Dale Krantz on lead vocals and Barry Lee Harwood on guitar). However, shortly after that, Pyle was in a car accident that broke his leg in 21 places and shattered his hopes of remaining with the group. Pyle spent the next three years healing, both physically and emotionally, before returning to the States and establishing the Artimus Pyle Band (A.P.B.) to honor the music and legacy of Ronnie Van Zant.In 1987, Pyle rejoined his former bandmates to tour and eventually record as Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991, but the experience left him flat. While he deeply loved them, he no longer felt the magic he once did with Van Zant at the helm, nor was he interested in returning to the party lifestyle for which the band was known and stepped away from the group permanently, only to return in 2006 during Lynyrd Skynyrd's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (where he played alongside Bob Burns). Now in his 70s, Pyle still continues to honor Van Zant's musical legacy, recording and touring with the Artimus Pyle Band, now comprised of Pyle (drums), Scott Raines (guitar/vocals), Jerry Lyda (guitar) Brad Durden (keyboards/vocals), and Dave Fowler (bass).https://artimuspyleband.com/https://www.amazon.com/Anthems-Honoring-Music-Lynyrd-Skynyrd/dp/B0CKH9X2WHBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/i-am-refocused-radio--2671113/support.

In this solo installment of Shred With Shifty, host Chris Shiflett shares juicy unreleased footage from previous episodes, rates fan submission solos, and fields questions from viewers. This week's Shred With Shifty keeps the spotlight on our intrepid host and shameless shredmeister, as Shifty kicks things off with a swift hammer-on ascent up the neck. Next, he shares a few ace videos submitted by fans where they tackle Alex Lifeson's solo on Rush's “Limelight,” though Shifty has some choice words for one shredder's choice in guitars. (Plus, he duets one lucky Foos cover band expert's rendition of the solo on “Long Road To Ruin.”) Shifty shares some unseen clips from his conversations on the pod thus far. He talks Epiphones versus Gibsons with Lifeson, soccer fandom and arthritis with Rivers Cuomo, and guitar-painting with Lindsay Ell. Best of all, Nile Rogers dishes on how he rescued David Bowie's dismal “Let's Dance” demo. To round out the show, Shiflett answers questions from viewers. He talks about his love for Strymon's Iridium and how they fit into his solo shows, plus he reveals what he's playing through on Shred With Shifty. Later on, he recounts how a malfunctioning amp during “This Is A Call” ended with a smashed guitar, his favorite pedalboard picks (“Put like 15 pedals on your pedalboard and go to the races!”), his amp-switching rig and pre-show warm up routine with Foo Fighters, and how to play his leads on Foos' emotional new track, “Under You.” Look out for the next episode of Shred With Shifty, when Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora joins Shiflett to teach him the screaming solo for "Dead Or Alive." Neil Medley is one of the very first guys I met when I moved to Nashville about 20 years ago. Originally from Louisville, KY, he started his career in marketing but about 13 years ago he decided to go full time into songwriting. In this episode you're going to hear about that transition and how that move led him quickly to his first album cut with Luke Bryan. You'll hear about the songs he wrote after that like "Wasn't That Drunk" for the Josh Abbott Band that featured Carly Pearce as her first radio release. You'll hear about other songs he wrote for Kid Rock, Lindsay Ell, Jason Aldean and Tyler Farr along with his first #1 "Made For You" that he wrote with Benjy Davis and Joey Hyde for Jake Owen. Other than his songwriting success, I remember sitting in his back music room when I first moved to town and we would pass the guitar around. His voice was always really unique and special to me and I'm so excited about a new project he has coming up! He sent me a sneak peak of a new album he has written for himself, with him on vocals, just before we recorded this episode. It's so good and it's such a special album to Neil. Be looking for that album, called "South End Kid" coming out on September 29, 2023. Neil says he doesn't want to be blown away by the speakers, he wants to be pulled into them and that's exactly what this record was like for me. By the way, if you're around the Nashville, TN area at the end of September, Neil will be playing and promoting that record at The Listening Room on September 28. You'll hear more about the making of that project, his take on male/female ratio on radio and more in this episode. On this episode, the country guitarist walks Shifty through her blazing solo on "Hits Me," after sharing all about what makes her guitar-mind tick. "I've always looked at guitar solos as additional lyrics to the song," says Lindsay Ell. She approaches guitar solos by balancing their voice with that of the actual vocal, and on this episode of Shred With Shifty, the country guitarist and songwriter—who really draws from a host of genres, including rock, jazz, and blues—breaks down her epic solo on "Hits Me" for host Chris Shiflett, walking him through each phrase and figure. But before the two get into the solo breakdown, they cover some ground delving into topics like Lindsay's early bluegrass studies (and how her teacher Randy Bachman later introduced her to jazz and blues), her experience playing with producer Dann Huff, and why there aren't more female lead guitarists. (For that last one, she's not sure she has the answer, but is proud to be on the vanguard!) "Hits Me" is in Bb, which could be a challenging key to play in, and even Chris admits he gets lost on the fretboard if his songs aren't in the far more common keys of E, A, or G. But, she didn't want to be pigeonholed as the "girl who uses a capo," throwing it out at a very young age, and plays the solo high up on the neck, mostly on the top strings, around the 16th fret. It's also full of "guitarmony"—which she loves doing on just one guitar, although the solo was tracked on two for the recording to throw a bone to the mixing engineer. In the final minutes of the ep, Lindsay reveals one of her favorite warm up exercises, which she calls "chromatic spiders," which Shifty finds pretty wild (and they sound just as creepy as their name). And for the tour leading into her next record, she's also got a passel of updated gear since her 2018 Rig Rundown. No surprise, since there's always something new happening with Ell—whether it's touring under her own banner or with Shania Twain, scooping up Canadian Country Music Association awards, or serving as a judge on Canada's Got Talent. When it comes to guitars, Ell's 6-string tastes run to the classics and custom-builds, and she's got her signature OD aboard, so let's take a look.Brought to you by D'Addario XS Strings.

Canada's Got Talent (CGT) is back! I am honored and privileged to welcome one of my favorite judges, Trish Stratus, to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. She joined the judges' table in Season One of the iconic Got Talent franchise alongside Howie Mandel, Lilly Singh, Kardinal Offishall, and guest judge and franchise creator Simon Cowell. She helped make CGT, Citytv's most-viewed original series in over a decade. Post-pandemic life has been busy for the WWE Hall of Famer. The eight-time WWE Champion and fitness icon wrapped up 2022 with the release of the holiday movie Christmas in Rockwell, in which she stars. The film made Amazon's Top 10 romance movies and is now available on DVD and various streaming platforms. Trish Stratus, named number one on the list of WWE's Greatest Female Superstars, was inducted into the United States National Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame and was the first woman recipient of the industry's prestigious Lou Thesz Award. In addition to her accomplishments in the wrestling world, Trish Stratus also has a fitness lifestyle brand called Startussphere, which stemmed from opening Canada's largest yoga studio in 2008, that has since spun off into a line of yoga and fitness products in retail stores across Canada. She also has a line of DVDs that feature her signature yoga program, Stratusphere Yoga, which she designed, incorporating strength training into a yoga flow. Her company Stratus Enterprises, Inc., recently won a Canadian Business Award for its online retail platform, which sells the Stratusphere product line, autographed memorabilia, and the hugely popular Wonder Stratus merchandise. In this special Canada's Got Talent edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Trish Status previewed the upcoming season, which included how the audience in CGT's new home of the OLG Stage at the Fallsview Casino played a significant role this season and the qualities she looked for in acts to receive her Golden Buzzer.

It's rare… like REALLY rare… that I'm BLOWN AWAY by someone's podcast content – but The Zak Kuhn Show immediately stopped me in my tracks. Everything about Zak's show is top-notch: his cover art, his audio quality, his writing skills, his intentionality behind the content, his marketing strategy, the caliber of guests – but most impressive of all is Zak's thoughtfulness in the prep he does before each interview, resulting in honest and vulnerable conversations you won't hear anywhere else. In this conversation, Zak shares: how he was able to get 5k+ subscribers for his newsletter in just 2 years, the tips and techniques he recommends for getting the best and most unique interview from each podcast guest, why he once spent roughly THIRTY HOURS prepping for a SINGLE podcast interview, the INCREDIBLE series of strategic events (including, you guessed it… buying a billboard) that leaded to landing Bobby Bones as the guest on his 100th podcast episode, and so much more! Zak Kuhn is an entertainment entrepreneur and media personality, always at the intersection of music and culture through his various ventures. Most notably, he is the Founder & CEO of The Nashville Briefing – a newsletter covering the confluence of country music and the global music business – that in just two years amassed thousands of subscribers. On his podcast The Zak Kuhn Show, Zak interviews leaders, legends and icons in the world of entertainment, including Bobby Bones, Matt Stell, Ingrid Andress, Kelleigh Bannen, Tenille Townes, Seaforth, Kristian Bush of Sugarland, Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line, BRELAND, Mitchell Tenpenny, Lindsay Ell, Dan Smyers of Dan + Shay, and many more.
