Chemical peels are commonly used in the esthetics treatment room for fast results and minimal downtime. They are considered safe and effective when used properly and the client's skin has been appropriately prepped and patch tested. But estheticians without proper training still face challenges when using peels on ethnic skin. There is a greater risk for post-inflammatory pigment, scarring, and burns. In this episode of ASCP Esty Talk, Maggie talks with Pamela Springer about selecting the right peeling agent for your client's skin type, common clinical implications, and where estheticians go wrong. ASCP Esty Talk with Maggie Staszcuk and Ella Cressman Produced by Associated Skin Care Professionals (ASCP) for licensed estheticians, ASCP Esty Talk is a weekly podcast hosted by Maggie Staszcuk and Ella Cressman. We see your passion, innovation, and hard work and are here to support you by providing a platform for networking, advocacy, camaraderie, and education. We aim to inspire you to ask the right questions, find your motivation, and give you the courage to have the professional skin care career you desire. About Ella Cressman: Ella Cressman is a licensed esthetician, certified organic formulator, business owner, and absolute ingredient junkie! As an educator, she enjoys empowering other estheticians and industry professionals to understand skin care from an ingredient standpoint rather than a product-specific view. She has spent many hours researching ingredients, understanding how and where they are sourced, as well as phytochemistry, histological access, and complementary compounds for intentional skin benefits. In addition to running a skin care practice, Cressman founded a comprehensive consulting group, the HHP Collective, and has consulted for several skin care lines, including several successful CBD brands. Pamela Springer, founded The Skin & Makeup Institute of Arizona in 2000. As a woman of color who has a mixed ancestry from three other lineages, she was quite aware of the beauty industry's lack of products created for people of color. The Institute became the only educational resource in Arizona to include the study of the global population. The training was rigorous, and services were performed on ALL skin types and skin conditions. Today, Ms. Springer continues to conduct trainings for the global market. She believes, you must understand the biological differences; the inherent risk factors; and, how genetics play a significant role in each skin type and the common skin conditions before providing treatments on black and brown skins. Pamela has authored the recently, released DON'T BE LEFT IN THE DARK – Learn How to Master Chemical Peels & More…for a world of diverse skin tones. This book is a valuable resource containing the latest in ethnic skincare. It is based on science yet presented in a manner that is easy to understand. What is the Esthetician Summit 2023? Today, the skincare legend, Pamela Springer, joins us for a second time and takes us on a deep dive into chemical peels for skin of color. In today's episode, Pamela discusses how different skin colors and types react to chemical peels and why an esthetician must investigate each skin to take care of it properly. She emphasizes that, in caring for a client, an esthetician shouldn't make assumptions by relying only on skin color but should dig deeper into the client's genealogy to develop the appropriate skincare for the individual based on their DNA. She shares how estheticians can investigate a client's skin, how to prep various skins for chemical peels, how to prevent burns, the intensity of chemical peels needed for skin of color, and the role of PH levels in chemical peels generally. On the business side, she also discusses tips on how estheticians should select their product line offerings to be able to cater to various skin types, her inside process of applying chemical peels, what estheticians can do to make more sales, and how to go about getting certified with her courses concerning taking excellent care of skin of color, and loads more! In this episode of ASCP Esty Talk, we continue our discussions with Black estheticians on how race and skin color play a significant role within the esthetics industry and in our everyday lives. Crystal Ochemba-Powell explains how to expand your esthetics knowledge in order to treat a wider range of diverse skin types, discusses what all estheticians should be keeping in mind when treating clients of color, and much more. The art of listening is a big theme in this episode—listening to what the consultation form tells you about your client, listening to what your clients tell you during their treatment, and also listening to what your clients might NOT be saying. Each topic discussed in this episode will help you learn how to develop a trusting relationship with your client, and will give you the tools you need to provide the best and most informed treatments possible, especially to clients of color. On this weeks episode we really dig into some more advanced skincare techniques that can take your skin to new heights. The technique we are going to talk about this week is one that EVERYONE should be doing regularly, but most people do incorrectly... leading to major, potentially irreversible skin damage. We are talking about exfoliation - with the beauty advisor's special guest Pamela Springer.. The point of exfoliation - as you probably know - is to get rid of dry, dull, dead skin cells to reveal smooth, bright, youthful skin underneath. It's also important for making sure your skincare products aren't "blocked" from absorbing deeply into skin...Not to mention, preventing clogged and enlarged pores that come from having too much dead skin buildup. visit www.globalskin-solutions.com for a $25 discount use the code beautyshow
