When Gustavo “Goose” Alvarez was 18, he was sent to prison for the first time. When he arrived, the other incarcerated men wanted to know if they could trust him — so they handed him a plate of cheesy tacos, and got to know him over that shared meal. From there, Goose learned all kinds of prison cooking tips, including how to use razor blades to boil water and the recipe for a coffee drink called a “Cadillac.” This week Goose shares some of the recipes from his cookbook, Prison Ramen — and the harrowing story of how that title dish saved his life. // Get 500+ more great Sporkful episodes from our catalog and lots of other Stitcher goodness when you sign up for Stitcher Premium: www.StitcherPremium.com/Sporkful (promo code: SPORKFUL). Incarcerated prisoners have ample free time since they don't have to battle 9-5 jobs, long commutes, and the need to be in five different places at once. Their time is often spent playing cards, reading, working on their court cases, crafting, etc. However, many of them dedicate this time to get absolutely "Jacked" and "Swole" while behind bars. I know I would personally get in the greatest shape of my life while reading, taking courses...basically getting smarter and ripped. This episode will highlight the creative ways prisoners build muscle via their own bodyweight, while engaging progressive overload methods without high-tech equipment. In addition, I'll cover the diets, the innovative recipes created by the prisoners, and some of the most famous last meals on Death Row.Excellent Books & Resources Mentioned on Prison Workouts/Diets:"Solitary Fitness" by UK's Most Violent Prisoner Charles Bronson: https://amzn.to/3wap62FMore Books on Violent and Ripped Charles Bronson: https://amzn.to/3tRm81F"Prison Ramen" Creative Prison Recipes: https://amzn.to/3w9auk1More Books on Recipe Creations in Incarceration: https://amzn.to/2RXq0keFlexible Workout Recommendation: https://www.flexibleworkout.com/proper-workout-nutrition-diet/HOST ANNE MCDANIELS LINKS:Facebook: Anne McDanielsFacebook: Anne McDaniels ActressInstagram: @annemcdanielsactressInstagram: @annemcdanielsTwitter : @annemcdanielsIMDB : Anne McDanielsClubhouse: @annemcdanielsTikTok: Anne McDanielsClubhouse: @annemcdanielsHELPFUL LINKS:TikTok Butt-Lift LeggingsFood JournalsSelf Help BooksHealthy CookbooksPlus Size FashionsAtomic Habits BookThink Like a Monk BookGet Out of Your Head BookPopular Fitness Products for SuccessLift LeggingsFitness BandsAthleisure WearMassage GunWearable Fitness DevicesWater BottlesMusic Credit: "E Blues Slop More"; Artist aceinet; Creative Commons LicensingPhoto Credit: MuscleForever.com & "Solitary Fitness" Photography via IllustrationsSources: ManofMany.com, SpotMeBro.com, FitPrince.com, TheGuardian.com, Charles Bronson Book "Solitary Fitness", Mirror.co.UK, KaliMuscle, Mashed.com, RainbowPrinciples.com, Joe.co.uk, bodypusher.com, flexibleworkouts.com, "Prison Ramen", YouTube Channels Will Tennyson and Erik the Electric
