Milwaukee hosted the Republican National Convention last year. City officials touted a potential economic windfall. Visit Milwaukee released a report claiming the event carried a 321-million-dollar economic impact. But this number doesn't include normal business that was crowded out by the RNC. Instead, it's a tally of what was spent by visitors and the cost of putting on the event. Lake Effect's Sam Woods looks at what's in the report.

The monologue today focuses on the weird and warped goings on at the Turning Point USA's first AmericaFest without Charlie Kirk. Spoiler alert: it reveals ideological rifts within the conservative movement. He also talks about CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss who decided to shelf a planned “60 Minutes” story titled “Inside CECOT,” thereby creating an uproar inside CBS. But the story was leaked to Canada and the report has reached a worldwide audience anyway. Next, John speaks with Professor Corey Brettschneider about the horrific shooting at Brown University where Corey teaches. They discuss the latest confirmed developments in the shooting—and the parallel storm of disinformation on X that spread during the investigation: false accusations against a transgender student and a manufactured narrative about motive. They break down how these claims circulated, why they're dangerous, and how to separate verified reporting from rumor—without naming private individuals or repeating unverified allegations. Then, he welcomes back Rhonda Hansome to discuss the latest stolen Venezuelan oil tanker and the latest kidnapped victims of ICE cruelty.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Safety for children under anesthesia shouldn't depend on luck or location. We walk through 100+ years of progress in pediatric anesthesia and focus on the next wave of innovations that can make first attempts safer, dosing smarter, and systems more reliable—especially for neonates and infants who face the highest risk.We start with the historical milestones that changed outcomes: pulse oximetry, capnography, standardized monitoring, and the rise of pediatric training and ICUs. Then we examine where progress must accelerate. Video laryngoscopy is improving first-pass success and reducing desaturation by giving teams a brighter, shared view of the airway. Ultrasound enhanced by AI promises needle guidance, better vascular access, and more consistent regional anesthesia. Gastric ultrasound could reshape fasting practices, reducing hypotension, nausea, and anxiety while safeguarding against aspiration. Alongside these tools, processed EEG helps tailor volatile agents and propofol to the developing brain, pushing practice from population averages to precision dosing. We also look ahead to artificial intelligence as a connective layer across perioperative care. Think risk stratification in the EHR, early-warning analytics for intraoperative instability, and smarter OR management that reduces cancellations and costs. With expert insights from pediatric anesthesiologist, Dr. Elizabeth Malinzak, we name the real barriers—training, cost, bias, regulation—and stake a claim for proactive safety science over reactive fixes. The goal is equitable, high-quality anesthesia care for every child, in every setting. If this conversation resonates, follow the show, share it with a colleague, and leave a quick review. Most people approach inner work the same way they approach New Year's resolutions—sporadically, emotionally, and only when life starts to fall apart. In this episode of The Spiritual Perspective, I break down a simple truth that applies to money, fitness, creativity, and spiritual growth alike: progress is a volume game. You don't build wealth from one lucky break. You build it from steady, consistent inputs over time. Inner work works the same way. Occasional meditation, random gratitude, or practicing mindfulness only when you're stressed doesn't compound. What compounds is consistency. We talk about what “inner work” actually means, why motivation is a poor strategy for long-term change, and why doing small practices every day is far more powerful than intense practices once in a while. I also share how daily meditation acts as a keystone habit—making it easier to sleep better, take less personally, and stay grounded when life inevitably throws curveballs. If you've ever felt like your practice “isn't working,” this episode will help you reframe what progress actually looks like—and how to build spiritual momentum without relying on inspiration or willpower. This is a practical, no-nonsense conversation about how real transformation actually happens.Send us a text message. We'd love to hear from you!
With the new agreement between TikTok and the Trump administration being approved (final signing will happen in January), Donald Trump is now in charge of one of the most powerful and influential social media platforms on earth. Trump's good friend and donor Larry Ellison will be given most of the control over both the algorithm and the data of all users, giving Trump an unprecedented grip over Americans. Lindsey Halligan, the disqualified US Attorney that Trump installed to prosecute his political enemies, is still refusing to leave her office even after the courts told her that she doesn't have a job. That has to be embarrassing for her, especially since she can't even spell the word "Virginia" correctly. It was recently brought to the attention of a delighted internet that Halligan's signature included an embarrassing misspelling that left people shocked and laughing. Donald Trump is already planning on issuing preemptive pardons to members of his administration, according to sources inside the administration who recently spoke with reporters. This isn't shocking at all, but it does provide clear evidence that accountability is forever going to remain a stranger for the liars and cheats that Trump has packed into his cabinet (including himself.) Donald Trump's "economic" address to the country last week was so bad that it has left Republicans scrambling to figure out how to properly do damage control. Reports say that Republicans were sickened by the event and now they fear that they have even bigger problems on their hands than before Trump went on the air. He definitely didn't do anyone any favors with that address.Text and and let us know your thoughts on today's stories!Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media! Ryan is a CPA who specializes in real estate tax strategy, and this week I BEGGED him to come back and talk to me about how to invest in real estate through retirement accounts. Plot twist–this was totally a selfish move on my part, as I've been youtubing my way down the rabbit hole looking for these answers for myself. I figured it was time to go straight to the source with Ryan. In this episode, you can expect me grilling Ryan about: Why invest in RE through a retirement account? Pros and cons of investing this way How to actually invest via retirement account (without incurring the 10% penalty!) Self-directed IRAs vs Solo401Ks How much should someone invest through their retirement accounts (vs just investing through personal funds)? Should you establish an LLC or trust before investing in RE? This episode really only scratched the surface, so if you have more questions for Ryan, make sure to join his online community here. P.S. What do you do when your whole identity revolves around academic performance? Well, for Ava Ward, it wasn't good. The stress to perform at top level caused anxiety, even panic attacks. After a particularly dark freshman year of high school, Ava came to the realization that her obsession with good grades had become an idol. At Bear Lake Camp, she realized she had a divided heart and her idolatry was supplanting faith in Christ. She did an about face, changed schools, changed her mindset, even changed her career path to studying the Bible and art, things a smart person just doesn't do! It all comes to a head when Ava forgoes her graduation speech as valedictorian, fruit of a new heart.See what happens when Ava gives her burden of perfection to the Lord, gets an undivided heart, and pursues Jesus full on as a biblical studies major at Wheaton College This episode would be encouraging for those battling anxiety or perfectionist tendencies, showing them steps to freedom in Christ. CarGurus' Kevin Roberts breaks down the current state of the auto market, noting how tariffs did not impact pricing as much as anticipated. The expiration of EV tax credits pulled sales into Q3, leading to a sharp Q4 drop. While regional variations exist, hybrid vehicle demand is rising, with Ford (F) shifting focus from pure electric vehicle production to hybrids. Affordability remains the primary concern for consumers, making vehicles under $30,000 highly desirable in the current market.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Options involve risks and are not suitable for all investors. If you've ever wondered what happens when a D&D podcast accidentally becomes a Food Network special—complete with French Dips, Hot Wet Beef, Cubanos, Reubens, and enough sandwich-based emotional damage to fuel an entire barbarian subclass—this episode is for you. Before they even touch the book, the RPGBOT crew debates regional sandwiches with the same energy most people reserve for BBEGs. Then they finally tackle Part 3 of Heroes of Faerûn, where Barbarian ghosts get nerfed, Storm Heralds get swole, Cavaliers insist on riding horses in a system designed to kill horses, Monks get drunker than ever, and Oathbreakers get… surprisingly reasonable? Strap in. Bring snacks. Maybe bring a sandwich. Preferably not hot, wet, or beefy. Big news, adventurers—RPGBOT review videos may soon begin appearing in full on YouTube! That means the entire sandwich argument, every Futurama impression, every "did they REALLY rename Drunken Master to Warrior of Intoxication?" moment, all captured in glorious HD. Keep an eye on the RPGBOT YouTube channel—your long-form chaos may soon have a new home. Show Notes In this episode of the RPGBOT.Podcast, the crew dives into Part 3 of their comprehensive review of Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerûn, focusing on the D&D 2024 subclass updates for Barbarians, Fighters, Monks, and Paladins. The discussion opens with a riotous tangent about regional food, French Dip heresy, and the metaphysics of "hot wet beef"—a tonal masterpiece worthy of an entire episode on its own. Once they pivot into the book itself, the hosts begin analyzing the Path of the Spiritual Guardian, Storm Herald Barbarian, Cavalier Fighter, Warrior of Intoxication Monk, and Oathbreaker Paladin, comparing their 2014 designs to their 2024 updates. Barbarian: Path of the Spiritual Guardian The hosts dig into the mechanical overhaul of Spiritual Protectors, explaining how the powerful 2014 taunt effect has been split into selectable options—Distract, Protect, or bonus damage—resulting in a strict nerf despite added flexibility. The new capstone, Vengeful Spirits, grants extra attacks on high rolls, though the table questions whether the feature fits the subclass thematically. Barbarian: Path of the Storm Herald In contrast, the Storm Herald Barbarian receives across-the-board improvements. With damage scaling tied to Rage bonus, updated terrain options, and the ability to change environments every time they Rage, Storm Herald becomes far more flavorful and versatile than its 2014 version. Tundra's new ability to subtract damage rolls from enemies is highlighted as both weird and delightful. Fighter: Cavalier The Cavalier Fighter, historically tied to a mounted combat fantasy unsupported by the 5e ruleset, receives meaningful buffs. Unwavering Mark no longer has limited uses, Ferocious Charger gains a more dynamic battlefield role, and Vigilant Defender continues to shine with additional reactions. Despite no changes to the horse-related problem ("area effects still delete horses instantly"), the subclass gets promoted to "very playable." Monk: Warrior of Intoxication One of the most dramatically redesigned subclasses, the former Drunken Master is now the Warrior of Intoxication, centered around Mystic Brew, a full brewing system that allows monks to craft beverages like Cinnamon Dragon or Heavenly Spirit. The team debates the new mechanics, including potential abuse cases involving long rests and stacked brews, while applauding the creativity. The name, however, receives… near-universal disdain. Paladin: Oathbreaker The final subclass, the Oathbreaker Paladin, cleans up many mechanical issues from 2014. Control Undead becomes the more thematic Conjure Undead, Aura of Hate integrates more cleanly with Aura of Protection, and new spell options sharpen its identity. The crew notes that the subclass finally stands independently, without requiring a friendly necromancer to function. Throughout the episode, the hosts blend detailed mechanics analysis, design philosophy commentary, subclass balance comparisons, and their signature brand of comedy—including Futurama impressions, regional sandwich wars, and multiple live hot takes. Key Takeaways Path of the Spiritual Guardian Major redesign resulted in a strict mechanical nerf, splitting the 2014 taunt into weaker modular effects. Vengeful Spirits introduces extra attacks but feels thematically disconnected. Needs another design pass. Path of the Storm Herald Substantial quality-of-life upgrades, including Rage-based terrain switching and improved scaling. Desert, Sea, and Tundra each gain flavorful new mechanics. Considered one of the biggest winners of the 2024 subclass update. Cavalier Fighter Unwavering Mark and Ferocious Charger receive meaningful buffs. Still has the same "horse fragility" problem, but the subclass is otherwise extremely strong. Gains crowd-control and tanking tools that outperform Sentinel. Warrior of Intoxication One of the most overhauled subclasses in Heroes of Faerûn. Mystic Brew adds flavorful utility but suffers from action-economy bottlenecks. Multiple "default pick" beverages suggest it still needs tuning. Creative, fun, thematically wild—but the name is universally mocked. Oathbreaker Paladin Improved spell list, more thematic undead support, and better integration with core auras. Conjure Undead makes the subclass self-sufficient. Stronger and more coherent than the 2014 version. Have you ever gone out to eat and tried your best to order something lighter or presumably healthier, only to find out it was a caloric nightmare? Or maybe you've just never noticed. In this episode, I've given some examples of restaurant menu items that might appear to be a great option but are a lot higher in calories than expected. This isn't meant to be demoralizing or depressing, but a good awareness if you eat at restaurants often.I've also looked at the calories and macros of quite possibly the most destructive menu item to ever hit a U.S. based chain restaurant. Hint: It contains 29,310mg of sodium.Contact Mike:Mike Sinopoli - NASM Certified Personal Trainer & Nutrition CoachInstagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn: @mfswellness email: mike@mfswellness.comphone: 630-361-4907www.mfswellness.com
