The Royals have done something nobody saw coming.  They are hitting, winning and suddenly we have to look at them differently after winning 4 in a row and 6 out of 7.   Because they surged to a playoff series win last year AND they want to build a new stadium... I'm guessing the Royals are about to be buyers in the trade market.   At Big 12 media days, KU Athletic Director Travis Goff talks about their new football stadium opening August 23 and in doing so promises something historic around the corner.  Goff says the next announcement in fundraising has never been done in college athletics history.  We are all ears.    Gymnast and social media influencer Livvy Dunne thought she had a New York apartment purchased with boyfriend pitcher for the Pirates Paul Skenes.  Then the owners pulled the offer.  She posted a video about it and seemed really hurt because that apartment was Babe Ruth's home in 1929.    The Secret Service has suspended six agents involved at the Trump shooting in Pennsylvania one year ago.  Job gains for Americans are in the millions as  those for non-Americans falling off a cliff.    Chief of Staff Susie Wiles does a rare interview talking about what happened between Mr. Trump and Elon Musk.  And homeowners and those who want to be homeowners are about to get some breaks.    Our Final Final is quarterback Kirk Cousins with a nifty little hack at Great Clips.

Obsessing on what other people think about you, say about you, did to you - or are doing to you to undermine you Telling yourself you'll never get X because Y happened - over and over - this is a message that will come true when you say it - you are the story you tell yourself Focus on the causes of your current troubles rather than the things that can solve problems. And what does the victor look like? Takes rabid responsibility for their part in their own troubles (John Bush on self reflection, Buying things with a credit card to satisfy the instant gratification monkey, Friend with a violent husband removing herself from access, etc.) Controls their reaction to bad things to make the best of it - but not in a fake toxic positivity way. (Macchu Picchu) Focuses on what they CAN control (this one hurts for a reforming political junkie) Sees obstacles as challenges rather than insurmountable roadblocks Gains self worth internally, not from the feedback of others (and therefore cares not what people say about them or if people are trying to undermine them) A victor will ask - how can I? A victim will say I can't. That is the biggest difference between the two. So how do you become a victor when you are stuck as a victim? Recognize where you are - that is the first step to owning your future Shift your mindset from being helpless to proactive, rabid responsibility Know what you cannot control, and embrace that you can control your reaction to it Kill the negative thoughts and paranoia and ask yourself - How can i? Forgive - forgive yourself, forgive those around you - but it is ok to NOT forget6. Set boundaries to keep yourself building your future rather than getting stuck in past, unhealthy cycles. That choice — to build forward instead of staying broken — is what changes everything. Make it a great week. GUYS! Personal Training for Aerobic Fitness: The Science Behind VO₂ Max and Cardio Gains

Strength Changes Everything

What does aerobic fitness really mean — and how can personal training help you improve it?? Amy Hudson and Dr. James Fisher break down VO₂ max, heart rate, and the science behind combining strength training with interval workouts. From boosting cardiovascular health to reducing fatigue and disease risk, they explain how targeted personal training can transform your conditioning and overall well-being. Amy Hudson and Dr. James Fisher look at the benefits of having increased aerobic capacity, how to increase it and the role of both strength training and brief interval training in aerobic capacity. One of the most common terms used in scientific literature is VO₂ max which represents the maximum volume of oxygen our body can take up and use. Dr. Fisher explains that whenever we talk about cardiovascular fitness or cardiorespiratory fitness, it's about how well oxygen can move around our body. Dr. Fisher and Amy talk about why VO₂ max and CO2 (carbon dioxide) are important in terms of their fitness. Did you know that your conditioning level, to some extent, can determine what exercise level or exercise intensity you can work at to maintain working aerobically? Not only daily fatigue but also your sleep, risk of depression and anxiety, risk of coronary artery disease and hypertension, and the risk of diabetes are all positively impacted by an improved aerobic conditioning. Dr. Fisher approaches the audience question: Does knowing one's resting heart rate indicate anything to that person about their current state of cardiovascular health or aerobic capacity? As you improve your fitness, you improve what's called cardiac output and stroke volume. If you're curious about your maximum heart rate, you can calculate it by taking the number 220 and deducting your age from it… Amy brings interval training and glycogen into the conversation. Dr. Fisher explains that the importance of having a strength training workout and then doing concentrated cardio at the end is actually great because it serves as this glycogen dump. Dr. Fisher goes into EPOC – Excess-Post Exercise Oxygen Consumption – and the specificity of an action and, specifically, a sport itself.     Mentioned in This Episode: The Exercise Coach - Get 2 Free Sessions! About the Guest(s): Dr. Chad Woolner is a renowned expert in functional medicine, known for his innovative approach to wellness. He has vast experience working with diverse health modalities, integrating traditional and alternative methods to achieve optimal health outcomes for his clients. He co-hosts the "Simplified Functional Medicine Podcast," where he shares insights into various health therapies and wellness practices. Dr. Andrew Wells is a celebrated chiropractor and functional medicine practitioner. He is an advocate for holistic health strategies that blend modern science with traditional wellness practices. As a co-host of the "Simplified Functional Medicine Podcast," Dr. Wells explores significant health trends and therapies that impact overall well-being. Episode Summary: In this intriguing episode of the "Simplified Functional Medicine Podcast," Dr. Chad Woolner and Dr. Andrew Wells address the heated debate surrounding cold immersion therapy, specifically in light of new findings indicating it could reduce muscle gains by as much as 60%. They dissect the study's details, emphasizing that the therapy isn't fundamentally flawed but may be misutilized. Cold immersion, known for its vast health benefits, comes under scrutiny and the hosts provide a balanced perspective on how it fits into a larger regimen of holistic health practices. Throughout the episode, Dr. Woolner and Dr. Wells delve into the nuances of cold immersion therapy, emphasizing the importance of timing and technique to maximize benefits while minimizing any adverse effects on muscle development. They argue that, when used appropriately and safely, cold therapy can enhance mental and emotional health, making it a valuable tool even amidst recent controversies. The episode expands on potential inaccuracies in clickbait headlines and stresses the significance of contextual understanding in practice. Key Takeaways: Cold immersion therapy's benefits are significant but depend on correct usage, particularly timing relative to workouts. Recent studies show that post-workout cold immersion can hinder muscle growth but highlight the importance of inflammation in hypertrophy. Personal experiences and mental challenges in handling cold therapy can be beneficial for mental toughness and productivity. Hormetic stressors, like cold immersion, when used correctly, can enhance overall health and wellness by regulating bodily stress responses. The ongoing clickbait frenzy around health trends necessitates a more informed, careful approach to adopting wellness practices. Notable Quotes: "Cold immersion therapy isn't broken. It's just being misused in some instances." — Dr. Chad Woolner. "You can still keep doing ice baths… nothing changes in terms of the health benefits." — Dr. Chad Woolner. "Sometimes too much of a hormetic stress can be a bad thing." — Dr. Andrew Wells. "You do want and need some inflammation post hypertrophy training." — Dr. Chad Woolner. "It's the difficultness of it… that you can consider mental toughness training." — Dr. Andrew Wells. Resources: Journal of Physiology - The journal where the mentioned study was published. Anna Lembke's Book: "Dopamine Nation" - Referenced by Dr. Chad Woolner for deeper understanding. Ice Barrel: Mentioned by Dr. Andrew Wells as a recommendation for those interested in trying cold immersion therapy.
