King Jehoahaz becomes king of Israel (the northern kingdom). He follows the sins of Jeroboam (idol worship), so God allows Israel to be oppressed by Hazael and later Ben-Hadad, kings of Aram (Syria). Jehoahaz humbles himself and prays, and God shows mercy by giving Israel a deliverer, but the nation still continues in sin.Jehoahaz's son Jehoash (Joash) succeeds him as king. He also follows Jeroboam's sins and does evil in God's sight.During this time, the prophet Elisha is very old and sick. King Jehoash visits him, weeping, and Elisha gives him prophetic signs:Arrows of victory: Elisha tells Jehoash to shoot an arrow, symbolizing God's victory over Aram. Then he tells him to strike the ground with arrows. Jehoash strikes only three times, and Elisha becomes upset, saying that Israel will defeat Aram only three times instead of completely destroying them. After Elisha dies and is buried, a miracle occurs: a dead man's body touches Elisha's bones and comes back to life.In the end, Israel regains some cities that Aram had captured, fulfilling Elisha's prophecy that Jehoash would win three victories.Key Themes:God's mercy even when His people persist in sin.The importance of wholehearted faith and obedience (half-hearted actions limit blessings).God's power displayed even after the death of His prophet.

Paul reminds the Thessalonian believers how he, Silas, and Timothy first came to them. Even though they had faced opposition and suffering in Philippi, they boldly preached the gospel in Thessalonica with sincerity and without selfish motives. They did not seek praise, wealth, or power, but instead cared for the believers gently, like a mother caring for her children and like a father encouraging them to live worthy lives before God.Paul thanks God that the Thessalonians received the gospel not as human words, but as God's Word, which was actively working in them. He acknowledges their suffering at the hands of their own people, similar to how Jewish believers suffered from their countrymen. He also explains that though he longed to visit them again, Satan hindered him. Still, he expresses that the Thessalonians are his joy, glory, and crown in the presence of Christ when He returns.Key Themes:The integrity and sincerity of true gospel ministry. The tender, parental care of spiritual leaders. The reality of suffering for faith in Christ.Believers as a source of joy and reward at Christ's coming.

King Joash (also called Jehoash) begins to reign over Judah at age seven and rules for forty years in Jerusalem. Under the guidance of Jehoiada the priest, Joash does what is right in God's eyes, though the high places (altars for unauthorized worship) are not removed, and people still offer sacrifices there.Joash orders that money collected at the temple—such as offerings, vows, and freewill gifts—be used to repair the temple. At first, the priests do not make repairs, so Joash and Jehoiada set up a new system: a chest is placed near the altar where money is deposited, and it is used specifically for temple restoration. The money is faithfully handled, given to workers, and used directly for repairs (not for temple utensils).Later, King Hazael of Aram (Syria) threatens Jerusalem. To avoid attack, Joash takes treasures from the temple and the royal palace and sends them to Hazael as tribute, so Hazael withdraws. In the end, Joash is betrayed by his own officials, who conspire against him and assassinate him in Beth Millo. His son Amaziah succeeds him as king.Key Themes:The importance of temple worship and proper use of offerings. The influence of godly leadership (Joash follows the Lord while Jehoiada is alive).Compromise with enemies through tribute instead of trusting God.The tragic downfall of a king who began well but ended poorly.

Paul, Silvanus (Silas), and Timothy greet the church in Thessalonica, thanking God for them and constantly remembering their faith, love, and hope in Christ. Paul notes that the gospel came to them not only with words but also with power, the Holy Spirit, and deep conviction. Despite persecution, the Thessalonians received the message with joy and became examples to believers throughout Macedonia and Achaia. Their faith in God spread widely, so much so that Paul did not need to say much; others testified about how they turned from idols to serve the living and true God and to wait for His Son, Jesus, who rescues them from the coming wrath.

Jehu Destroys Ahab's Family (vv. 1–17):Jehu writes letters to Samaria, where Ahab's seventy sons live, challenging the leaders to make one of them king and fight for the throne. Fearing Jehu, they refuse and pledge loyalty to him. Jehu orders them to kill Ahab's sons and send him their heads, which they do. Jehu piles the heads in two heaps at the city gate, declaring that God's word spoken through Elijah has been fulfilled. He continues to kill all remaining relatives and supporters of Ahab in Jezreel and Samaria.Jehu Slaughters Ahaziah's Relatives (vv. 12–14):On his way to Samaria, Jehu meets relatives of King Ahaziah of Judah and has them executed.Jehu and Jehonadab (vv. 15–17):Jehu meets Jehonadab son of Rechab, a respected leader, and invites him to join in his zeal for the Lord. Together, they continue wiping out Ahab's family.Jehu Destroys Baal Worship (vv. 18–28):Jehu tricks the Baal worshipers by announcing a great sacrifice to Baal. He gathers them all in the temple, ensuring none of the Lord's servants are present. Once the temple is full, Jehu's men kill everyone inside and destroy the temple, turning it into a latrine.Jehu's Reign (vv. 29–36):Although Jehu eradicated Baal worship, he did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam (the golden calves at Bethel and Dan). The Lord commends Jehu for carrying out judgment on Ahab's house and promises that his descendants will rule Israel for four generations. However, because Jehu did not fully obey God, the Lord begins reducing Israel's territory through attacks from Hazael of Aram. Jehu reigns in Samaria for 28 years, and his son Jehoahaz succeeds him.Key Themes:Fulfillment of God's judgment against Ahab's dynasty.Zeal for God must be wholehearted—partial obedience is not enough. The danger of replacing one false worship with another (Baal destroyed, but golden calves remain).God rewards obedience but also disciplines incomplete faithfulness.

New Identity Colossians 3 Chew the Bible S3Paul urges believers to set their hearts and minds on things above, where Christ is, rather than on earthly things. Since they have died with Christ and their life is now hidden in Him, they must put to death sinful behaviors such as sexual immorality, greed, anger, slander, and lying.Instead, they are to put on the new self, which is being renewed in Christ's image. In this new life, earthly divisions like Jew or Gentile, slave or free, do not matter—Christ is all and in all.Paul calls believers to clothe themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and above all, love, which binds everything together. The peace of Christ should rule in their hearts, and the word of Christ should dwell richly among them, expressed through teaching, encouragement, and songs of worship. Whatever they do, they should do it in the name of the Lord Jesus. He also gives practical instructions for Christian households: wives should respect their husbands, husbands should love their wives, children should obey their parents, fathers should not embitter their children, and slaves should obey their earthly masters sincerely—ultimately working as for the Lord rather than for men.Key Themes:Seek heavenly values, not earthly ones.Put off the old sinful nature; put on the new Christlike nature.Unity in Christ transcends divisions.Love is the supreme virtue.Practical guidance for relationships in the Christian home and daily life.Your words were found and I ate them

The prophet declares that Jehu is chosen by God to destroy the house of Ahab and avenge the blood of the prophets and servants of the Lord shed by Jezebel. After the prophet departs, Jehu's fellow officers at first question him, but when Jehu tells them the message, they quickly proclaim him king.Jehu Kills Joram, King of Israel (v. 14–26):Jehu immediately acts. King Joram (son of Ahab) and King Ahaziah of Judah are at Jezreel, where Joram is recovering from battle wounds. As Jehu approaches, Joram rides out to meet him and asks if there is peace. Jehu replies that there can be no peace while Jezebel's idolatry and witchcraft continue. Realizing Jehu's intent, Joram tries to flee, but Jehu shoots an arrow through his heart. Jehu orders Joram's body thrown into the field of Naboth, fulfilling Elijah's prophecy of judgment for Ahab's family.Jehu Wounds Ahaziah, King of Judah (v. 27–29):Ahaziah tries to escape but is wounded by Jehu's men near Ibleam. He flees to Megiddo, where he dies. The Death of Jezebel (v. 30–37):Jehu then enters Jezreel, where Jezebel awaits him. She paints her eyes and adorns her head, mocking him from a window. Jehu commands her attendants to throw her down, and they do so. Jezebel's blood splatters on the wall and horses, and Jehu tramples her body. Later, when servants attempt to bury her, they find only her skull, feet, and hands, as dogs have eaten the rest — fulfilling Elijah's prophecy that Jezebel's body would be like dung on the field in Jezreel.Key Themes:God's judgment against Ahab's house fulfilled.Jehu as an instrument of divine justice. The certainty of God's prophetic word (everything Elijah foretold comes to pass).Your words were found and I ate them

Complete in Christ Colossians 2 Chew the Bible S3Paul expresses his deep concern for the believers, wanting them to be encouraged, united in love, and rooted in the full knowledge of Christ. He warns them not to be deceived by fine-sounding arguments or human philosophies that are empty and based on worldly traditions rather than Christ. He explains that in Christ dwells the fullness of God, and believers are made complete in Him. Through Christ, they have been spiritually circumcised, buried with Him in baptism, and raised with Him through faith.Paul emphasizes that God forgave their sins and canceled the written record of debt, nailing it to the cross. Christ disarmed rulers and authorities, triumphing over them. Finally, he warns against letting others judge them by religious rituals, food laws, festivals, or Sabbaths, since these were shadows pointing to Christ. He cautions against false humility, worship of angels, and strict rules about the physical body, which have no real power to restrain sinful desires.Key Themes:Fullness and completeness in Christ.Freedom from human traditions and religious legalism.Christ's victory over sin and spiritual powers.True faith focuses on Christ, not man-made rules.Your words were found and I ate them

Ozempic Teeth? My Dentist Weighs In On This Surprising Side Effect

The Debbie Nigro Show

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 3, 2025 15:02

On The Debbie Nigro Show, I like to dig into stories that make you go, “Wait, what?!” This week's head-turner: “Ozempic Teeth.” Yep, that's the headline making waves, and I knew I had to call in my go-to expert, Dr. John Castanaro of Castanaro Dental in Yonkers, NY, to help get to ‘the tooth of the matter'. What Are “Ozempic Teeth”? GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy have taken the world by storm for their weight-loss benefits. But dentists are warning about side effects showing up in the mouth. According to Dr. Castanaro: “It's not the drug itself causing problems—it's the side effects like acid reflux, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, and sometimes malnutrition.” Those issues can lead to enamel erosion, cavities, swollen gums, and even gingivitis. In short: less saliva = more dental drama. Prevention Is Key The good news? Simple changes can protect your smile: Drink more water. Dehydration is a big culprit. Use products like Biotene (a rinse that coats and protects against dry mouth). Chew sugar-free gum or candies to stimulate saliva. Stay active. Even light walking helps reduce reflux and nausea. Stay on top of dental visits. Dr. Castanaro recommends some patients schedule three cleanings a year instead of two. As he put it: “Prevention and being on top of it—being educated about it—is everything. You can't ignore these signs.” Dentistry's Big Trend Beyond Ozempic teeth, Dr. Castanaro noted a bigger shift: younger generations with fewer cavities are turning to cosmetic upgrades like Invisalign and whitening. Thanks to new tech (hello, 3D printers!), straighter, whiter smiles are now easier and less invasive than ever. My Takeaway Ozempic teeth might sound scary, but the fix is refreshingly simple: hydrate, care for your teeth, and don't skip the dentist. As always, knowledge is power—and I'm glad Dr. Castanaro was here to drop some wisdom (and a little humor). “At the end of the day, prevention and awareness go a long way.” Thanks, Doc. Enlighten yourself in the short podcast of my live conversation with Dr. John Castanaro on The Debbie Nigro Show.

More management and insurance knowledge in my newsletter: https://www.odysseymgmt.com/newsletter   Did you know a single ransomware attack can cost a dental office six figures or shut it down entirely? A small dental practice is an ideal target for a cyberattack easy to overlook, often underprotected, and rich with valuable patient data. Teresa Pichay (returning guest!) and Katie Fox from the California Dental Association joined me for a scary session. They shared how hackers use phishing emails, malware, and AI-powered scams to break into dental systems, steal information, and demand high ransoms. Many in dentistry assume they're too small to attract hackers, but that very assumption makes them more vulnerable to hacking attempts. Personal devices, outdated software, and unsecured networks create easy entry points. Even if the breach occurs through a third-party vendor, the dental office is still held responsible. Without strong cybersecurity protocols, HIPAA compliance, and safeguards in place, practices risk data exposure on the dark web or deep web, legal trouble, and costly service disruptions. Paul warns the believers to watch out for false teachers who insist on circumcision and outward religious works. He explains that if anyone could boast in human credentials, it would be him — he was a Hebrew of Hebrews, a Pharisee, zealous, and blameless by the law's standards. Yet, he counts all of that as worthless compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ.Paul emphasizes that righteousness does not come through the law but through faith in Christ. His goal is to know Christ, share in His sufferings, and experience the power of His resurrection. He admits he has not “arrived,” but presses forward like a runner in a race, striving toward the heavenly prize in Christ Jesus. He urges believers to follow his example and warns against those who live as “enemies of the cross,” whose focus is earthly things. Instead, Christians are reminded that their true citizenship is in heaven, from where they eagerly await Christ, who will transform their lowly bodies into glorious ones like His.Key Themes:True righteousness comes by faith in Christ, not by works or heritage. The Christian life is like a race — pressing forward, not looking back.Believers are citizens of heaven, awaiting Christ's return.Your words were found and I ate them

NaaahhhMan & Greedy Gehazi 2 Kings 5 Chew the Bible Season 3Naaman, the commander of the Syrian army, was a powerful and respected man, but he suffered from leprosy. A young Israelite servant girl told Naaman's wife that the prophet Elisha in Israel could heal him. Naaman went to Israel with a letter from his king and gifts, but the king of Israel panicked, thinking it was a trick. Elisha then invited Naaman to come to him. When Naaman arrived, Elisha did not meet him in person but sent a messenger telling him to wash seven times in the Jordan River. Naaman was offended at first, expecting a dramatic miracle, but his servants persuaded him to obey. After dipping seven times, he was completely healed, and his skin became like that of a child. Grateful, Naaman returned to Elisha, confessed that the God of Israel was the only true God, and offered gifts, which Elisha refused. However, Elisha's servant Gehazi, driven by greed, secretly went after Naaman and lied to obtain some of the silver and clothing. When Gehazi returned, Elisha confronted him, knowing what he had done, and declared that Naaman's leprosy would cling to Gehazi and his descendants forever. Gehazi immediately left Elisha's presence covered in leprosy.

Be Humble or Be Humbled Philippians 2 Chew the Bible Season 3Paul encourages the believers in Philippi to live in unity, humility, and love. He urges them to put others before themselves, following the example of Christ, who humbled Himself by leaving His divine glory, taking on human form, and dying on the cross. Because of His obedience, God exalted Him above all, giving Him the name above every name. Paul tells the church to “work out their salvation” with reverence, shining like lights in a dark world. He also commends Timothy and Epaphroditus as faithful servants of Christ who live out this selfless attitude. On their journey, they ran out of water and feared defeat. They sought help from the prophet Elisha, who told them to bring a musician. As music played, the Spirit of the Lord came upon Elisha, and he prophesied that God would provide water without rain and give them victory. The next morning, water filled the land, and the Moabites, seeing the reflection, thought it was blood. Believing their enemies had killed each other, they rushed in, only to be ambushed and defeated by Israel and its allies.Your words were found and I ate them

Paul in Prison Philippians 1 Chew the Bible Season 3Paul writes to the believers in Philippi from prison. He thanks God for them, prays for their love and knowledge to grow, and encourages them to remain steadfast in Christ. Paul explains that his imprisonment has actually helped spread the gospel, as others are now more bold in preaching. Some preach Christ out of envy, others out of goodwill—but Paul rejoices that Christ is proclaimed regardless. He expresses confidence that through their prayers and the Spirit of Christ, he will be delivered, whether by life or death. For Paul, “to live is Christ and to die is gain.” He longs to be with Christ but chooses to remain for the sake of the believers' growth. He urges them to stand firm, united, and unafraid of opposition.Your words were found and I ate them

Abiding in Joy: The Joy of the Word

In John 15, Jesus tells us that if we hope to have lives of fruitfulness and joy, we must abide in Him. We must remain intimately connected with Him at the soul level. The stronger the connection, the better the fruit and the greater the joy. In this series, we're exploring ways to build a strong connection with Jesus. The analogy of a grapevine helps us identify some of those practices. Today, we are considering the importance of nutrition.  Just as a grapevine needs good soil from which to draw nutrients in order to produce an abundant harvest, so we need to put our roots down deep into the soil of God's Word.Psalm 1 paints a picture of a tree planted by streams of water that bears abundant fruit. Then the psalmist draws the parallel for us.  We, too, will bear good fruit if we are well-nourished. And that nourishing is found by meditating on the law of the Lord – that is, the Word of God.What does it mean to “meditate” on God's Word? The Hebrew word used in the Old Testament for meditate is the word “hagah.” Literally, it means “to growl.” The picture is that of an animal gnawing on a bone. Chewing on it. Savoring it. Digesting it. This is what we're to do with Scriptures. Take it in. Chew on it. Make it part of you.How might that happen?  How might we move from merely reading the Word to truly eating up and digesting the Word? Here are a series of questions that might get you moving in that direction.  Call them “Meditation Questions.”  As you read the Bible, ask yourself these questions. You may want to get a notebook and write down your answers. What got my attention? What stood out to you? What did I learn about God? It may be something new, or it may be something old that strikes you in a fresh way. What did I learn about myself? This takes it from the theoretical to the personal. What am I going to do about it?  It's not enough to just “hear the Word.” We must be “doers” as well. What is a practical, tangible step you can take to make this Word part of your life?  Text: John 15:1-11Originally recorded on July 23, 2017, at Fellowship Missionary Church, Fort Wayne, IN
