Revered by some, vilified by others, Ibram X. Kendi is America's most controversial anti-racism scholar. In this wide-ranging and frank conversation, the bestselling author of How to Be an Anti-Racist discusses his foundational (and republished) 2012 book The Black Campus Movement, drawing parallels between 1960s student activism and today's Gaza protests. Kendi argues critics deliberately misrepresent his work to "make me into this boogeyman" and keep people from engaging with evidence-based scholarship on racism. Despite facing accusations of being a "fraud," Kendi remains committed to his mission, particularly in his upcoming role at Howard University, where he'll direct a new Institute for Advanced Study. Five Key Takeaways * History Repeating: Kendi argues that today's campus protests over Gaza mirror 1960s Black student activism, with opponents using similar talking points to undermine anti-racist efforts on college campuses.* The "Boogeyman" Strategy: Kendi believes his critics deliberately misrepresent his work to make him seem "scary" and keep people from engaging with his evidence-based scholarship on racism, rather than addressing his actual arguments.* Campus Activism Then vs. Now: Key differences between the 1960s and today include the federal government now working to "re-segregate" campuses rather than desegregate them, and the presence of campus police forces that can suppress demonstrations.* Indirect Racism: Kendi argues that modern racism operates indirectly—when people deny that racist policies exist while racial disparities persist, they're implicitly suggesting that Black people are inferior, just without saying it explicitly.* New Chapter at Howard: After facing controversy and criticism, Kendi is moving from Boston University to historically Black Howard University to direct a new Institute for Advanced Study focused on rigorously studying racism.DR. On May 19, 2025, the great American revolutionary Malcolm X would have been 100 years old. Dr. Ibram X Kendi has a new YA book about his life.
The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Racist Suspect Joel Whitney. Classified as a White Man, Whitney is a Brooklyn, NY writer whose work has been featured in The New York Times, The Daily Beast, The Baffler, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, and Boston Review to name a few. He's "a former features editor at Al Jazeera America and a founder and former editor-in-chief at Guernica." Gus originally hoped to speak with Whitney about his 2016 publication, Finks: How the CIA Tricked the World's Best Writers. I'm not quite sure what my original motivation was for exploring this text - could have been Rev. Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple or Soundtrack to a Coup d'État. Anyway, by the time we got our calendars synchronized, Mr. Whitney had written another book, Flights: Radicals on the Run. Most of the featured subjects who had to flee oppression are Victims of White Supremacy like: Minister Malcolm X, Paul Robeson, Dr. Angela Davis, and Leonard Peltier - who recently benefited from a commuted sentence from departing President Biden. During the broadcast, Mr. Whitney repeated the tacky refrain that White people are also "held back" by Racism. He could only list two trifling ways that the System of White Supremacy holds him down. Whitney also engaged in another suspicious and common practice amongst Racist Suspects: Citing the work of Ibram X. Kendi, a Victim of White Supremacy, to confuse non-white people about what it means to be classified as White. #LorraineHansberry #FarceOnWashington #TheCOWS16Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

Which rules must we break to create an antiracist world? In this episode, the girlx/womxn are slightly late to the party in discussing a long piece on Ibram Kendi's implosion, courageously subverting their audience's expectations in order to side, at least sympathize, with the BIPOC man. Was Kendi set up to fail? Did white people set him up to fail? Is this a (very meta) manifestation of the very white supremacy that the Center for Anti-Racist Research was set up to combat? (Yes, yes, and naturally). They then move on to narcissism in the Instagram-girl world. Is it just normal to treat every waking moment of your life like a scene from a movie? Is "boyfriend" just another word for key grip? Racism has been a long standing issue in the American context. Healthy but at times trite solutions have been given to create common language that can be used and understood by the masses. Racism equals prejudice plus power has been a main stay definition for many activist and advocates for justice on the lay level. In this episode I attempt to use more sophisticated language that may help broaden understanding on the issue and potentially create kinder engagement for us as a society. A great source on this topic among others would be Ibram X Kendi's book "How to be an anti racist"
In this episode, New York Times bestselling author Elise Loehnen discusses her book On Our Best Behavior, which is about the seven deadly sins and their impact on women's lives and roles in society. In this episode, we talk about: The inspiration behind Elise's book On Our Best Behavior How writing the book helped Elise with her personal transformation and how it impacted her well-being and relationships The need for collective work to recognize unhealthy language and behaviors toward women Elise's journey toward self-definition away from cultural and social expectations How can people reconcile their faith with the empowerment and reevaluation of women's roles in society The role of health coaches in helping women reconnect with their desires, suppressed feelings, etc The concept of envy and how it is reframed in a positive way in the book Memorable Quotes “It's really difficult to liberate yourself from these ideas of what it is to be a good woman and stand alone, because you'll be vilified and continually sort of painted as a bad person.” “If patriarchy were so natural, we wouldn't chafe against it.” “We women, through trauma, self-hate, etc., are generally totally disembodied... So the most loving thing a health coach can do is to get women re-embodied and re-in touch with our appetites, our desires, our boundaries, our suppressed and repressed emotions.” BIO: Elise Loehnen is a New York Times bestselling author and the host of the podcast, Pulling the Thread, where she interviews cultural luminaries about the big questions of today, including people like Jo Harjo, Loretta Ross, Pico Iyer, Dr. Gabor Maté, and Terry Real. On a special episode of What's Next?, hosts Thomas O'Neil-White and Jay Moran sit down with Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, acclaimed author, professor, historian, and the founder and director of the Center for Antiracist Research at Boston University. Dr. Kendi recently adapted Zora Neale Hurston's tale of the Atlantic slave trade, Barracoon, into a children's book, and he speaks about the necessity of bringing that story to young readers. He also offers his take on the continued spread of white supremacy and what Buffalo can keep in mind as the city continues its healing journey.
Ibram X. Kendi is a National Book Award-winning and #1 New York Times bestselling author who has dedicated his life to educating all Americans, from grade school to adults, on the unvarnished history of the United States. His latest release, Barracoon: Adapted for Young Readers, is a middle-grade offering for the critically acclaimed Barracoon: The Story of the Last “Black Cargo,” written by the legendary writer, anthropologist and folklorist, Zora Neale Hurston. The book tells the story of Cudjo Lewis, one of the last-known survivors of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade who shared his story with Hurston in 1927. Kendi tells I SEE U that it's more important than ever for young people to understand slavery and its origins, particularly when book bans targeting writers of color are on the rise. Join us as I SEE U travels to the downtown Houston Public Library where host Eddie Robinson chats unguarded with one of the most sought-after historians in the country, Ibram X. Kendi. The author of the award-winning Stamped From the Beginning — now a Netflix documentary — chronicles the creation of racist ideas and myths which were used to codify discriminatory policies that have affected inequalities in everything from health to wealth in America.
Dr. Andre Archie, author of The Virtue of Color-Blindness, joins us to discuss how the concept of race has been weaponized to demonize certain ethnicities while uplifting others in an ill-conceived effort to correct past discriminations, the evolution of racial ideology in America from slavery to the present day, and whether or not the notion of "systemic racism" is indeed pervasive throughout society. - - - Today's Sponsor: Beam - Get 40% off for a limited time! As one athlete put it in the ESPN+ promotional video, she didn't even realize there were racial problems in the United States. It required someone with a "doctorate" to come along and point it out.

First, he's dissecting the embarrassing Nazi celebration in Canada: the Orwellian push to have it erased from history, Trudeau's fake apology, and the despicable claims that Zelensky, who speaks English and understands Ukrainian history, didn't know that he was saluting a Nazi soldier. “When he [Zelensky] raised his hand,” Norman explains, “this Jew as we're constantly told, he was lending himself to the Nazi cause.” Next, Norman's talking about presidential candidate and celebrated leftist Cornel West. Norm explains he hadn't read any of West's books until this month when he prepped for an interview with the candidate. “I was dazzled,” Norm says. “He's better than me!” The interview, which drops soon on Norman Finkelstein's Podcast, will be a three-hour wide-ranging intellectual conversation. Norm gives us a preview. Subscribe (before prices rise on Oct 1!) to hear our full 90-minute interview where Norm shares his take on Cornel West's candidacy, and we get into a long debate about Norm's favorite pseudo-intellectual millionaire Ibram X Kendi. In this episode, Sarah and Meghan do their podcasterly duties and discuss the scandal (or is it merely a juicy nothingburger?) surrounding Ibram X Kendi's mishandling of the more than $43 million that poured into his Center for Anti-Racist Research at Boston University. After getting high on schadenfreude fumes, they ultimately decide it's not Kendi's fault but the well-meaning (mostly white) enablers who threw money at him because, well, he was there — and apparently a genius. The womynx then move on to the topic on every commenter's lips this week: Marriage and whether it's good for society or simply another tool of the imperialist white supremacist capitalist, heternormative, homosapiast, Taylor Swiftian, Basic Bitchin' patriarchy. Arguing for the “good for society” side are people like David Brooks, who recently added to his arsenal of pro-marriage data by citing a paper by Sam Peltzman of the University of Chicago Business School showing that married people are happier. Arguing for the “shut up conservatives; it's not that simple” side is Rebecca Traister of New York Magazine, who is concerned that nice liberal elites are becoming trad-curious and playing into the hands of Republicans and their anti-woman agenda. Who is correct? We are, of course!Want to hear bonus episodes? Upgrade your subscription.HOUSEKEEPING

Financial mismanagement at BU is just the tip of the iceberg as Finkelstein applies his close reading of Kendi's work to the current crisis. As interesting as “what's going on” is the question of how did Kendi even get to a place where he was considered a leading scholar? Does his scholarship have anything to offer? And is “Wokeness” at the root of this? Subscribe to Bad Faith on YouTube for video of this episode. Find Bad Faith on Twitter (@badfaithpod) and Instagram (@badfaithpod). Produced by Armand Aviram. Park's Slate essay, “Sound of Freedom's Tim Ballard Is a Star on the Right. Today on the Matt Walsh Show, things are falling apart for the race grifter now known as "Ibram X Kendi." He's just the latest anti-racist con artist to be exposed in recent years. Is the anti-racist scam falling apart? We'll discuss. Also, John Fetterman cries over being bullied for his disability. Inmates claim cruel and unusual punishment when they are forced to work in the fields rather than sitting in a cell all day. And a Daily Show clip goes viral where Trevor Noah tries every so cautiously to push back against a babbling trans activist. Joy Reid leads this episode of The ReidOut with news that on Monday the judge overseeing Donald Trump's federal election interference case scheduled the trial to begin on March 4 of next year--just one day before Super Tuesday. Plus, Ron DeSantis was booed by his constituents in Florida at a vigil after Saturday's mass shooting in Jacksonville, which was committed by a self-avowed racist, a phrase many critics say Ron DeSantis would never say. Florida St. Rep. Angie Nixon, who stood next to DeSantis at that vigil resulting in a powerful photo, joins Joy Reid to discuss. Also, Vivek Ramaswamy has called Rep. Ayanna Pressley and author Ibram X. Kendi "modern grand wizards of the modern KKK." Both of these esteemed people, who were maligned by the 2024 presidential candidate, speak out on his attacks with Joy Reid. All this and more in this edition of The ReidOut on MSNBC.

What's it like to be at the forefront of a cultural backlash? Academic and author Dr. Ibram X. Kendi certainly knows. His books, “How to Be an Antiracist,” and its follow-up, a youth-friendly version called, “How to Be a (Young) Antiracist,” teach readers how to actively fight racism instead of passively acknowledging it. Audie talks with Dr. Kendi about the backlash around “wokeness,” antiracism, and what it's like to live in the middle of cultural maelstrom. They spoke in front of a live audience at the Crosscut Ideas Festival in Seattle. Ibram X. Kendi is a historian and antiracist scholar. He is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities and the Founding Director of the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research. He is the author of 14 books, including, "Stamped From The Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America." Some have even used his words to undermine antiracist education and critical race theory. In this episode, Dr. Ibram X. Kendi and Daily Show writer Randall Otis join host Roy Wood Jr. to discuss how conservatives pervert MLK's words, why he's so central to America's civil rights education, and how to properly honor his legacy.
