[Watch the video interview on our YouTube Channel] Film.Music.Media: All Access is honored to welcome Harry Gregson-Williams as our guest. Harry has carved a path for himself in the industry by building one of the most unique sonic styles as a composer, and crafting some iconic working relationships with top directors. We discuss Harry's beginnings in England and how he went to a boarding school to be trained in a children's choir. As he grew older he found himself working with composer Richard Harvey, which led to a phone call from a German composer named Hans. Beyond his journey to the United States and setting up shop with Hans Zimmer then branching out on his own, we discuss in detail many of the approaches with the different directors Harry has worked with including the late Tony Scott. Harry talks about his love for teaching and why he decided to shutdown his mega studio and scale it back to a home studio to be near his family, and we also get an official word if he is scoring Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant or not. Harry is one of the true auteur composers working today and his sound is instantly recognizable, getting to sit down and experience his charm in person was a true joy. Following a string of seasoned moviemakers such as Luc Besson, Doug Liman and Steven Soderbergh, we bring you a relative novice this week in the shape of Benedict Andrews. At least - a novice in cinematic terms. For Benedict is one of the world's foremost theatre and opera directors, who makes the transition to the screen with psychological thriller Una. Given this is Benedict's first film, much of the conversation focuses on the differences between the mediums in which he's worked. It also gives us an opportunity to play you examples of music from his stage productions, including extracts from Alex Baranowski's smoky, cinematic score for Streetcar Named Desire, which starred Gillian Anderson. But there's plenty to discuss when it come to Una too. Starring the ever excellent Rooney Mara and Ben Mendelsohn, the narrative centres on a woman confronting an older man about a illicit sexual relationship which took place in their past. The film is scored by Benedict's friend Jed Kurzel, whose work we discussed at length during a previous show with Jed's brother, Justin. Jed has developed a reputation as a composer of serious weight, as evidence by the fact he and the London Contemporary Orchestra recently provided the music for Ridley Scott's Alien Covenant. Hardly surprising, then, that Benedict turned to his old mate on taking the plunge from stage to screen ...
Greetings new members of The Midnight Society! We're super stoked to bring you episode 2 of NOW SLAYING! We delve into Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant, play horror trivia and try to navigate the overcomplexity of FRIENDPOCALPSE in space!
In space, no one can hear you lazily rip off the most iconic tagline of all time.. Nevertheless, we're still not going to. We look to the skies to tackle the huge subject of aliens, via Ridley Scott's Alien Covenant. Ridiculously, we attempt to talk about interstellar travel, astrobiology, and the occurrence of earth like planets in the universe. What's even more amazing is that Naylor does not once bring up Space Jam.
John and Mitch discuss Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant, David Lynch's revival of Twin Peaks, and the immediate future of Aliens Minute.
For Ep.61 I talk Ridley Scott's Alien Covenant and try to make some sense of this prequel series that he is creating. *Thoughts on Ridley Scott *We need more Guy Pearce/James Franco *Is Prometheus crew more memorable than Covenant's *Thought's on Danny McBride/Katherine Waterston *There are a lot of nods to the original series *This is clearly the Michael Fassbender show and more Intro Take me home, Country Roads by John Denver Outro Entry of the Gods into Valhalla by Richard Wagner Follow @JayMovieTalk on Twitter IG Jmtpodcast Medium.com https://medium.com/@RealBlackYoda/alien-covenant-2017-af7f738afef KedaNJay Facebook Group Page https://www.facebook.com/groups/129587427437115/ Thanks for listening Be sure to rate, comment, and share
The boys sit down for a special, single-movie episode of your favourite movie review show, giving an in-depth analysis of Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant. Big black scary monsters, hot Fass-on-Fass action and a man in a hat. BUT! Was this sequel to the prequel worth all the hassle, or just a pile of crispy Franco pancakes? In other news, Daniel Radcliffe is in Guns Akimbo, an upcoming KickAss/Deadpool style film; there's a Downton Abbey movie coming next Christmas; and profits are down across Hollywood but is torrenting to blame? Meanwhile, Scott grabs a big horn, Joe channels his inner farmer, and Roo gets very confused about racial stereotypes. Yet again. Let's talk about June movies. We cover our thoughts on Wonder Woman, discuss the merits and "what the hell?"s of The Mummy, look forward to Berlin Syndrome and Bushwick and then everything in between. But we kick things off with our thoughts on Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant in Seggy 1.
Dan and Garrett are joined by Ryan Silberstein and Andy Elijah of Cinedelphia to discuss Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant, the latest entry in the franchise that he birthed through his chest nearly 40 years ago. At age 79, Scott once again reminds us that he knows what we want years before we do - and what we want is dueling-flautist-Fassbenders. The gang delves into just how well this Prometheus/Alien mash-up works, and then discusses their Summer Movie Wager rankings. Join I Like To Movie Movie at the Milburn Stone Theater in MD on July 15th for a special screening of I Am A Knife With Legs. Tickets are available now, only $5, and include free popcorn! We'll also be playing some classic Movie Movie Live games and giving out prizes. facebook | twitter | tumblr | iTunes
Movie Meltdown - Episode 396 This week the Meltdown Gang gets together to have a large scale discussion about Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant. How it works as an individual movie as well as how it fits into and essentially changes the entire franchise. And as we break down this lovely parallel for the futility of life, we also mention... Noomi Rapace, the susceptibility of humans and pugs, big wheat, the lost episode of Heavy Metal, an overwhelming sense of mystery, Michael Fassbender, kind of timeless, planet designers, hinges on insanity, you knew that was coming because the movie kept going, less-predictable twists, the bastion of humility, masking frustration, this... means something, Don Knotts in every movie ever, what's the point of all this, faith-based leader, as the years go on... these do become our myths, science fiction my ass, person gets into a situation... then it's non-stop action 'til the end of the movie, replacing cloud with butt, it's mouth has a mouth, that stuff does other stuff, a landing party full of red shirts, shut-ins with no cable, Lawrence of Arabia, eating high school graduates, Fassbender on Fassbender action, CGI aliens, connecting dots that I didn't necessarily need connected, not believe in Darwinism, do we need that level of complexity, subtle yet distinct, tiny John Cena, like Jurassic Park, Mr. robotic by the books guy, the Nazi, shorthand, divorce lawyers in space, hey I'm gonna make... art, concentrated acid for blood, oxygen tanks and guns, dogburster and I want to go over to Giger's house and just touch things. Spoiler Alert: Full spoilers for Alien: Covenant. So go see the movie before you listen. You have been warned! "You can keep ramming new stories in the middle of your story you already thought you had figured out - I guess? Seems to be the case."
