Written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Mississippi Grind is a movie about a lonely and depressed gambling addict named Gerry (played by Ben Mendelsohn) who meets a charismatic wandering soul at a poker tournament in Iowa named Curtis (played by Ryan Reynolds). After a night out where Curtis and Gerry get along famously: we figure out Gerry owes money to a bookie, he hates his job, and his wife left him years ago. He convinces Curtis to stake him money and go on a road trip down to New Orleans, so he can try his luck in a high stakes poker game. Special guest and former online tournament poker player Caitlin Kiska gives her wisdom on how Mississippi Grind depicts poker and the gambling world. This week, we continue our descent into the early 2010s with the two films that truly cemented Cage's "will-do-anything-for-money" phase! First, there's Seeking Justice, the Roger Donaldson-directed thriller about a mild-mannered English teacher (Cage) who decides to enlist the services of a kind of civilian vengeance business (led by a shaved-headed Guy Pearce) to avenge the brutal rape of his wife (January Jones, giving us nothing). Thus begins a freefall into violence and madness, shot with all the direct-to-DVD flatness of a geezer teaser. Then, there's Trespass, the last (and worst) film by Joel Schumacher, a tepid home-invasion thriller where a group of thugs (with an overacting Ben Mendelsohn at the front) break into the home of a "wealthy" jewel dealer (Cage), only for him and his wife (Nicole Kidman, who knows why she agreed to be in this) to enter a tense negotiation for their lives. Well, I *say* tense, but the film is content to fill itself with more twists than a loaf of challah.  Pledge to our Patreon at patreon.com/travoltacage Follow us on Twitter @travoltacage Email us questions at travoltacagepod@gmail.com Podcast theme by Jon Biegen Podcast logo by Felipe Sobreiro

As political protests go, a four-year vow of celibacy is on the extreme side. And that's what this week's guest, British-American film director & writer Emma Forrest, decided to do following her divorce from actor Ben Mendelsohn, a period of her life which coincided with Donald Trump serving as the 45th US President from 2017 to 2021. ‘Looking at him makes me not want to have sex,' Emma reasoned – devoting herself to single parenting, finding joy in solitude, relocating from sunny LA to not-so-sunny London – and writing a memoir, Busy Being Free: A Lifelong Romantic Is Seduced By Solitude, about all of the above. In this episode, we discuss: How, as a single parent, Emma has instilled an appreciation for healthy solitude in her daughterWhat it takes to have a ‘good divorce'How celibacy helped cure Emma of her ‘addiction' to romanceWhy Emma's ultimate sexual fantasy begins with a day of uninterrupted writingThe joy of leaving a bad movie mid-way through You can order Emma Forrest's book, Busy Being Free: A Lifelong Romantic is Seduced by Solitude, now on Bookshop.org You can also order my book, Alonement: How To Be Alone and Absolutely Own It, which is based on this very podcast, now from Amazon, Waterstones and Bookshop.org. Looking for your weekly dose of generational trauma, misdirective cinema, and grease stained Ben Mendelsohn? Luckily, The Place Beyond the Pines, 2013's crime-drama-tragedy-mini-epic, is here to save the day! Before we make our way down its dark and winding road, come with us as we make a quick pit-stop and chow down on a Blue Plate Special that leaps from a discussion of E.T. The Extra Terrestrial and its theatrical re-release in honor of the classic film's 40th anniversary to an ambivalent consideration of Three Thousand Years of Longing, the latest film from Mad Max maestro George Miller. In due course, all roads lead to Schenectady and its eclectic cast of angels and demons, prompting a wide-ranging deliberation including but not limited to the weighty yet delicate brilliance of director Derek Cianfrance, the distorted magic that inevitably sparks from pitting early 2010 stars Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper up against one another, the at once simple and tortuous structural framework at play, and a special observance for one particular line reading from Emory Cohen. Grab the cigarillos and hoist the balaclavas: we go us a score in the works! This episode's exploration of crime cinema guides us through the seedy underbellies of Boston...or New Orleans...or Sawmills...or wherever the heck Killing Them Softly, Andrew Dominik's 2012 political diatribe in hood's clothing, takes place. But before we revel in the muck, we partake in a Blue Plate Special selection that salvages something from John Waters's 1972 cult behemoth Pink Flamingos, find a lot to love with the new A24 slasher Bodies Bodies Bodies, and celebrate the bittersweet conclusion of Better Call Saul. We eventually get around to casing the goldmine of a genre movie that is the subject of this episode, one which prompts a discussion of all things Brad Pitt, a consideration of Dominik's updating of novelist George C. Higgins and his source material, and really just find every opportunity to heap love upon Sam Shepard's brief but legendary walk-on performance as Dillon, the man himself. RARE SIGHTINGS & MYSTERIOUS CREATURES: The Wessex Way Monster, The Montauk Monsters, Yetis, chupacabras and more!   You don't have long left to VOTE FOR US AT THE BRITISH PODCAST AWARDS: https://www.britishpodcastawards.com/vote   Have you ever seen something than you just can't explain? This week on Eavesdroppin' podcast, Geordie & Michelle talk all about rare, mysterious sightings! Yes, we've got all sorts of crazy talk going on about mysterious creatures, aliens, genetic mutants and more!   What is the Wessex Way Monster? Is it an animal? Is it a feral human? Could it be a Chupacabra? Or a skinwalker? Why are we talking about Ben Mendelsohn (again)? What is The Rake? Is The Rake fake? And why are time slips mentioned? Could the Wessex Way Monster be a lost alien? Or is it just a deer? Or just a big ol' hoax… you decide!   We then move on to talking about Montauk Monsters, which gets darker than you might imagine… In 2008 in Montauk, a bizarre looking creature washed up on the shores of a local beach. Since then, there have been loads of strange looking genetic mutants washing up on beaches with no explanation… Or is there? Could these beasts be connected to biological warfare experiments at Plum Island? What does Project Paperclip. MK Ultra and Nazi scientists have to do with anything? Who is Erich Traub? Why is US Homeland Security messing with animals? And could these Frankenstein animals just be dead raccoons? Listen to find out!   Michelle then talks about a YouTube video that captures a weird insect on video… It's not a stick insect, it's not a mosquito, it's not a dragonfly… What the heck is this flying humanoid thing? Could it be a fairy? Or an alien? You'll have to watch (spoiler – Geordie's a sceptic!). We then wrap up with a couple of Yeti sightings, including a yeti spotted at a Formigal ski resort in the Pyrenees and a Russian yeti expedition that claims to have footage of an actual yeti!   We hope you enjoy this week's episode – and wherever you are, whatever you do, just keep Eavesdroppin'! *Disclaimer: We don't claim to have any factual info about anything ever, soooooorrrrrryyyyyyyy Get in touch with your stories and listen, like, subscribe, share etc…  Or email us at hello@eavesdroppinpodcast.com    Listen here: www.eavesdroppinpodcast.com Or here: https://podfollow.com/1539144364 WE ARE NOW ON PATREON :) Want to show your favourite podcast some love by throwing a coin into the tip jar? Lost and Found - The Place Beyond the Pines - Episode 61The Place Beyond the Pines (Free on MPlayer, also available on Hungama Play, Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube, and VI Movies)Welcome to OTTplay Lost and Found, one podcast that talks about critically acclaimed films and shows but lesser-known. I'm your host NikhilFilmmaker Derek Cianfrance is probably not one of the biggest names in Hollywood, but he is regarded as one of the best indie filmmakers in recent years. Some of his most notable films include Blue Valentine, starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, and he is also credited with co-writing the story for the acclaimed 2019 film The Sound of Metal by Darius Marder, starring Riz Ahmed and Olivia Cooke. However, Cianfrance's best film is also one of most lesser-known films of the past decade, The Place Beyond the Pines and it's our Lost and Found film for today. It was released in 2012 and features a star-studded ensemble of Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Emory Cohen, Dane DeHaan, and Ben Mendelsohn. It also features a stacked supporting cast of Mahershala Ali, Bruce Greenwood, Rose Byrne, and Ray Liotta. The plot is set in two timelines, the first of which revolves around Ryan Gosling's character Luke Glanton, a motorcycle stuntman working at a traveling carnival, who hopes to win back his former girlfriend's affections and to be a good father to his baby boy. However, circumstances force him to commit crimes in order to build a future for his loved ones. This puts him on a collision course with a policeman named Avery Cross, played by Bradley Cooper Years later, Luke and Avery's sons become best friends, unaware of the tragic history surrounding their fathers. Director Cianfrance has constructed the narrative taking inspiration from Shakespearean plays with themes surrounding destiny, revenge, and the complicated relationship between sons and fathers. The film is also a sombre reflection of a rotten society destroying the lives of its unsuspecting civilians. This slow-burner is undoubtedly one of the best films of the past decade. If you haven't watched The Place beyond the Pines yet, do so its streaming on MPlayer, also available on Hungama Play, Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube, and VI Movies.Well that's the OTTplay Lost and Found for today, until the next episode it's your host Nikhil signing out.Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poocho

Did Camilla really abandon him at 8 months old? Did the Royals file his teeth down and change his eye colour? Why is he putting all these crazy pictures on the internet comparing his family to the Royals? How are Holly and Phil wrapped up in all of this? And will Charles and Camilla ever agree to take DNA tests? Why would you want those two as your parents anyway? And why does Geordie sound like she's from Spitting Image? Could Michelle's theory actually be true??? Listen to find out!  Geordie then moves on to talk about Abdulfattah "John" Jandali and Joanne Simpson and the child they gave up for adoption. Why are we interested in this adoption story? Did Jandali know who his son grew up to be? Why are we talking about the movie Anywhere But Here? Can you guess which tech giant is Geordie talking about? She then moves on to the secrets and lies in Eric Clapton's family… Why did he think his nan was his mum? And what happened to his mummy? Was that the reason he grew up to be a bit of a d*ck? Why does Geordie mention Jamie Foxx? And who is Jack Nicholson's REAL mother?  Michelle then talks about Liv Tyler's origin story, Geordie sings ‘Can We Still Be Friends' and ‘I Saw The Light', the pair discuss the video for Aerosmith's Crazy and Alicia Silverstone is named the most beautiful girl of the 90s. We are joined by Arch and Taylor from Podcast Of Champions and have the full squad with myself( Jeff Sloboda), Cyberneticshark, and Perry Ramsey, co-hosting as usual. We are diving into a somewhat touchy subject with some Marvel Studios fans, a review of Captain Marvel released in 2019 and directed by Anna Boded and Ryan Fleck, who also wrote the script. The film stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers with pretty solid appearances from Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn. We get to see the Skrulls for the first time and they are very well done in the movie, as well as the Kree, two alien races at war. We have some really diverse opinions on Captain Marvel and Brie Larsons performance in the film overall, and as usual its a fun and loose show that is focused on covering the MCU. We break the film down, cover some Rotten Tomatoes reviews, and delve into the What If Disney Plus Series, which is upcoming and produced of course by Marvel Studios. We all at the MCU'S Bleeding Edge really appreciate having the guys from Podcast Of Champions join us on this series and our next livestream/ podcast/ show is set to start at 6:05PM Eastern on Saturday June 5th, reviewing Iron Man 1 for the first time with Taylor and The Grandmaster from Podcast Of Champions, along with a new guest on the program, Yvonne Rempel. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/the-mcus-bleeding-edge/message

FORCED ADOPTIONS: It's been 8 years since Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard apologised to the women of Australia who'd been coerced into adopting out their new born babies against their will. This episode is close to our hearts for so many reasons - listen and all will be revealed... From the 1940s to the 1970s, more than 250,000 unwed mothers from all over the country were coerced into giving their babies up for adoption in what has become one of the cruellest injustices in Australian history. This week, Geordie and Michelle take a look at some heartbreaking cases from Crown Street Women's Hospital and beyond... after they first discuss good telly, the death of Prince Phillip, truly jaw-dropping royal gaffes and the briefest of Ben Mendelsohn mentions... Geordie talks about TV series The Terror, Michelle utters the words 'dog log', Geordie pays respects to the sad passing of actor Paul Ritter and Michelle has no recollection of ever watching BBC drama The Game. Then it's on to the main shebang... Australia's forced adoption scandal. The pair discover how women were sent away from their homes, drugged, coerced to sign adoption papers and were even told their baby had died... heartbreaking stuff. But there's also a case that will surprise listeners, too... And a mention of Sherbert. Another week, another Eavesdroppin' ep... This time, the supernatural chat gets kicked to the curb in favour of yik-yakkin' about the C Word... Yes, CANCER. Geordie talks about the inspiring story of a super-woman called Linda and how she said "F*ck you" to cancer; Michelle talks about Jen's cancer story and the time she hit a doctor with a fly swat. We hear Linda's top tips on what NOT to say to cancer patients. Ben Mendelsohn doesn't get mentioned. And Geordie recites the worst song lyric of all time by SNAP! - "I'm as serious as cancer when I say rhythm is a dancer"... All this and more on Eavesdroppin'! This week is all about weird lights in the sky. Michelle talks about seeing snow-glow and thinks it might be an alien landing. Geordie scares the sh*t out of everyone with The Incident at Fort Benning. Michelle investigates UFO reports from around Lake George near Canberra. And the pair chat randomly about Communion, films with aliens in them (not the 1979 classic Alien), Steven Spielberg and of course, Ben Mendelsohn, now affectionately known as Bendels. Apologies are made, they realise that neither of them know what a 'G' is or how far 4,000 metres really is... Follow us www.facebook.com/eavesdroppinpodcast

This week, Geordie and Michelle dive into the mad mad world of QAnon. Is Trump the saviour of the world? Is Hillary Rodham Clinton's side hustle really a satanic paedophile ring? Is the Queen a lizard? Just a few questions the pair don't really answer, alongside more discussions about Ben Mendelsohn's back catalogue and a passing mention of the 80s TV series V. Happy listening!

It's 2021, NYE is over, resolutions have been broken and Geordie & Michelle are back at it, talking s*hit about everything and nothing in the first ep of Eavesdroppin' Season 2. This week, the girls make apologies, talk about scungees, Ben Mendelsohn gets more airtime and that's all before they get to the real topic: fairies! Geordie deep dives into Huldufólk, the hidden-people-slash-elves of Icelandic and Faroese folklore; Michelle's not convinced so she talks about trolls and the demented film Border; changelings are mentioned, as are the Mole People of New York, Blizzard Party fairy sightings are discussed along with born-again Doreen Virtue and the fact that most fairies are shady. Seriously, don't f*uck with the fairies. Till next week!

Well what do you know... IT'S NEARLY 2021! Woooo! This week, Geordie talks about Nostradamus and explains what the f**k a quatrain is; Michelle talks about Y2K and end-of-the-world mentalists; Geordie reveals she's terrified of the zombie apocalypse while Michelle insists she's really not in a cult. London night buses get a grim mention, as does Ben Mendelsohn, and both agree that New Year's Eve is usually a dud. Forgot to talk about new year's resolutions, but when Uranus is a surprise, all bets are off. Happy New Year! See you in 2021 :)   Tameera's website: www.tameera.com

TRUE CRIME: Have you ever known a murderer? Through a bizarre co-incidence, Geordie and Michelle discovered that when they were kids, they were both friends with a guy who turned out to be a killer. It was Canberra, Australia, 1987, when David Pike murdered Jenny Young while she lay sleeping in her bed. This week, Geordie remembers the details of the case, Michelle delves into the historical facts, Ben Mendelsohn gets another mention, all while chatting over the complexities of murder, mental illness and Mel Gibson. Low production values alert: Geordie's voice sounds like she's talking through a tin can this episode, so sorry about that! In other news, Michelle thinks a woman who channels a group of other-worldly entities who want us to all be happy is completely normal; Geordie talks about Action For Happiness and The Secret; the both talk about The Vortex, Abraham and Ben Mendelsohn, and wonder if they just keep saying 'Money Flows To Me Money Flows To Me Money Flows To Me', they'll one day end up billionaires. Did Nelson Mandela die in prison? Is Schrödinger's cat dead or alive? Are we living in a black hole? Is Geordie tipsy from her massive Dark N' Stormy? Has Michelle really got the body of Giselle? Just a few things the girls ponder this week as they chit chat about weird science, Electric Dreams, Ben Mendelsohn (again), Neil Cross, memories and murder, the Large Hadron Collider, Stephen Hawking and 80s movies you've probably never seen.
