Directed by Ridley Scott, and starring Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, and lots of goo, the popular prequel asks a lot of questions and features a geologist with a rock brain. After taking a detour into Beetlejuice land, The Three Men And A Retrospective Podcast returns to the Alien franchise discussing a film that, well, needs to be discussed. Director Ridley Scott had always wanted to return to the franchise that put him on the map. But after Fox decided to move forward with the Alien vs Predator films, it would seem he was permanently soured on it. Five years after Aliens vs Predator Requiem, Scott's desire was reinvigorated. Bringing together a cast that included Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, and Michael Fassbender, among others, Scott put Prometheus out in the summer of 2012. At least one member of this podcast was really looking forward to it, and while the film ended up making a lot of money, it seemed to be lost amongst a ton of mixed reviews and discussions of what Scott actually wanted to make. Join Garrett, Matt, and Adam as they add to that discussion recording a review Garrett has wanted to do since they started this podcast. And be sure to return next week, as Adam returns to territory he swore he would never return to. That of Alien Covenant. Also, keep a lookout for a special Halloween review that returns to territory the boys have covered before. What is it? Stay tuned

Mike and I will be discussing the 2014 crime drama The Drop, starring Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, and James Gandolfini, and directed by Michaël R. Roskam. Although it is not a well-known movie, it is an absolute hidden gem and deserves to be seen by a much larger audience. Check out this episode to find out why!
Dorian Price and Mark Radulich present our Prometheus 2012 Movie Review!Prometheus is a 2012 science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott and written by Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof. The film features an ensemble cast including Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, and Charlize Theron. Set in the late 21st century, the film centers on the crew of the spaceship Prometheus as it follows a star map discovered among the artifacts of several ancient Earth cultures. Seeking the origins of humanity, the crew arrives on a distant world and discovers a threat that could cause the extinction of the human species.Scott and director James Cameron developed ideas for a film that would serve as a prequel to Scott's science-fiction horror film Alien (1979). In 2002, the development of Alien vs. Predator (2004) took precedence, and the project remained dormant until 2009 when Scott again showed interest. Spaihts wrote a script for a prequel to the events of the Alien films, but Scott opted for a different direction to avoid repeating cues from those films. In late 2010, Lindelof joined the project to rewrite Spaihts's script, and he and Scott developed a story that precedes the story of Alien but is not directly connected to the original series. According to Scott, although the film shares "strands of Alien's DNA," and takes place in the same universe, Prometheus explores its own mythology and ideas.Prometheus entered production in April 2010, with extensive design phases during which the technology and creatures that the film required were developed. Principal photography began in March 2011, with an estimated $120–130 million budget. The film was shot using 3D cameras throughout, almost entirely on practical sets, and on location in England, Iceland, Scotland, Jordan, and Spain. It was promoted with a marketing campaign that included viral activities on the web. Three videos featuring the film's leading actors in character, which expanded on elements of the fictional universe, were released and met with a generally positive reception and awards.Prometheus was released on June 1, 2012, in the United Kingdom and on June 8, 2012, in North America. The film earned generally positive reviews, receiving praise for the designs, production values, and cast performances, but was criticized for its uneven script and unresolved plot points. The film grossed over $403 million worldwide. A sequel, Alien: Covenant, was released in May 2017.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
Send us a textAs we blast off into our 4th Season here at Fabulous Film and Friends, and with the recent release of Alien Romulus, we thought it only fitting to take a look at ALL the Alien movies, minus the execrable Alien v. Predator films, starting with 1979's Alien directed by Ridley Scott and starring Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton, Yaphett Koto, John Hurt, Veronica Cartright and Ian Holm followed by 1986's Aliens, directed by James Cameron and starring Sigourney Weaver again, joined by Michael Biehn, Bill Paxton, Lance Henrickson, Carrie Ann Henn, William Hope, Jeanette Goldstein, Mark Rolston Al Matthews, and Paul Reiser. Then we get 1992's Alien 3 directed by David Fincer, starring Weaver once again, with Charles S. Dutton, Charles Dance, Ralph Brown, Pete Postelwaite, Brian Glover, Holt MccAllany, Lance Henrickson and a veritable slew of bald British day players yelling, "You bloody wanker!" Then there's 1997's Alien Resurrection directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet starring Ms. Weaver, Winona Ryder, Ron Perlman, Dan Hedaya, Brad Dourif, JE Freeman, Kim Flowers Gary Dourdan, Dominique Pinon and Michael Wincott. Then there's a long break in the actual franchise with the aforementioned cash-grabs Alien v. Predator films thrown in the mix and the series starts up again in earnest with 2012's Ridley Scott directed prequel Prometheus starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall Green, Sean Harris, Rafe Spall, and Guy Pierce. In 2017 we're treated to Alien Covenant, once again directed by Ridley Scott starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Cruddup, Danny McBride, Callie Hernandez, Carmen Ejogo, Guy Pearce, everybody's favorite prankster, Jussie Smollet and blink and you'll miss them cameos by Noomi Rapace and James Franco. Which leads us to 2024's Alien Romulus directed by Fede Alvarez and starring Callie Spaeny, David Jonsson, Isabella Merced, Archie Renaux, Aileen Wu, Spike Fearn and a posthumus Ian Holm. I'm your host Gino Caputi and the guests today are Burton Brown, David Johnson, DMD, Joe Field. With seven movies to cover we're going to get right into it, with one synopsis. Alien movies started off about a crew of space miners serving on the enormous mining vessel the Nostromo who while in cryosleep on their return to Earth with their minerals and ore in tow, are given orders to stop on the planet LV-426 to investigate a distress signal coming from a derelict spacecraft. While investigating the phenomena the crew inadvertently bring an alien on board their vessel. The Alien picks off the crew one by one and it is only warrant officer Ripley who survives by destroying the Nostromo and ultimately shooting the alien out into space. An internet meme sums it up thusly:Alien 1 - A team of miners faces an AlienAliens - A team of marines faces a lot of AliensAlien 3 - A group of convicts faces one AlienAlien Resurrection - A team of pirates face 5 AliensPrometheus - A team of scientists inadvertently create the AlienAlien Covenant - A team of colonists face a a lot of AliensAlien Romulus - A team of babyfaced Gen Z 'ers face a lot of AliensWhich is Queen of the Hive? Happy Monday, Goons, and welcome to our Last of AugUSt month, where we discuss the last or final entry of a popular horror franchise! This week, Mikey & Ade review 2017's Alien: Covenant (trying to squeeze this in before the Alien Romulus release). This film is the sequel to 2012's Prometheus, and both are directed by Ridley Scott, who brought us the very first Alien (1979). This installment follows a crew of spouses on a colony ship, who are abruptly awakened and eventually travel to a planet on a rescue mission, only for terror to ensue. Starring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, Amy Seimetz, with appearances from Guy Pearce (not Richie), Noomi Rapace and James Franco, the film definitely has its ups and downs. What did you think of this one? Are you excited for Romulus? Listen in and let us know your thoughts in the comments! The film is currently streaming on Hulu, if you'd like to rewatch ahead of time. Today's guest is the one and only Noomi Rapace. She's an actress and a producer. A shatterer of limiting beliefs. She achieved international fame originating the role of Lisbeth Salander in the Swedish adaptation of the Millennium Series: “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “The Girl Who Played with Fire,” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.” This woman digs into the mind, body, and soul of every character she plays. Just watch her portray septuplets in “What Happened to Monday.” It's masterful. And from the beginning of her career in Sweden, she's taken a unique approach to auditioning that might unravel some of your ideas about this industry. Noomi's worked with everyone from Guy Ritchie's in “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” to Ridley Scott in “Prometheus,” to Tom Hardy in “Child 44,” to John Krasinski in “Jack Ryan.” She opens up about producing and starring in her latest film, “The Secrets We Keep,” and shares how much she enjoys peeling back the layers of truth in her own life and in the stories she tells. Her career is an example of the depths you can go when you master your fears, and the connections that unfold when you create the work you want to create. Jodie Foster joins us on the show to talk about the grand finale of True Detective: Night Country. We get properly into all the twists and turns of that show but don't worry if you've not had a chance to watch the final episode yet, because we've put the interview at the very end of the episode with clear spoiler markings. But she's not the only guest on this week's show, either, as Noomi Rapace also drops by to talk about Apple's creepy space-set sci-fi Constellation as well — it begins with talk of whether anyone's wearing trousers on the Zoom call and all spirals out of control from there. Elsewhere on this week's show, we take a look at ITV's Breathtaking, which recounts the front line struggles of NHS staff during the outbreak of Covid, and we also watch BBC1's The Way, which sees civil unrest as steelworkers down tools in Port Talbot. Plus Kay has us lamenting those dearly departed shows that ended on cliffhangers that were sadly never resolved.

This week, we continue our journey into the doldrums of Colin's middle period with a look at Dead Man Down, a muddled attempt by original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo director Niels Arden Oplev to inject European art film flair into the DTV crime thriller mold. We discuss the film's incoherent plotting and tone, once again tackle the question of Colin Farrell in action hero mode, and break down co-star Noomi Rapace's odd run as a failed Hollywood leading lady. Plus, because you try talking about this movie, we get very loopy and really just drift off into whatever tangents cross our minds. But, like, more so than usual. Cole wants Tommy Wirkola to chill. Connor debuts his Justin Timberlake impression. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

In this week's episode of the AIPT Movies podcast, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss Ridley Scott's prequel to his own 1979 masterpiece, Alien, the somewhat controversial sci-fi horror film, Prometheus!A fantastic and hauntingly hopeful musical score! A stacked cast that includes Michael Fassbender in one of his greatest roles! Incredible production design and cinematography! A horrific self-surgery scene for the ages! A surprisingly timely warning about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence! A movie that may have been viewed as a modern classic if not for the baggage of a connected franchise! Is this yet another example of the folly of de-mystifying the enjoyably mysterious? Is the exploration of humanity's hubris, and insatiable desire for more, perfectly told through a technically unnecessary prequel? Listen now to find out!In addition, Matt and Alex share their spoiler-free thoughts on Wes Anderson's Asteroid City and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny! You can find AIPT Movies on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Based in London, Emma Hardy is well practiced in capturing the nuances of everyday life. Her images reflect an often unnoticed drama behind the scenes. Coming from a theatrical background and having worked as an actress herself before focusing on photography, Emma cites her fascination with people's behaviour, the tensions, interactions and quirky humour, as a driving energy in her work.Mainly self-taught, Emma photographs on film, simply, with natural or available light, stating “I try not to impose much technique or too much of myself on my subjects.” As such, there's a hallmark honesty to her work. Her images are infused with a believable sense of being, her portraits are intimate and unselfconscious. Tilda Swinton, Natalia Vodianova, Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Stella McCartney have sat for her, among others. She started photographing portraits, documents and fashion for British Vogue, The Telegraph magazine, Vanity Fair, The Fader, The New York Times and Rolling Stone, among many others, and had her first solo exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London in 2006 with a project titled Exceptional Youth. Other exhibitions in London, New York and Milan followed, and she was invited to photograph a series of portraits for the London 2012 Olympics, again featured at the National Portrait Gallery. Thirty-nine of her portraits are in the permanent collection at the NPG London. In 2012 she was commissioned by Oxfam & The Economist to travel to Cambodia to document the citizens of Phnom Penh who were battling the governments land grabs—this series became an exhibition in London in 2013 titled Losing Ground, the exhibition travelled to Washington DC where the images were used as a lobbying tool to help the Cambodian situation onto the G8 summit list.Permissions, Emma's first monograph, was published by Gost Books in November 2022. Some of the images were exhibited at 1014 Gallery in Dalston, London, December 2022 - January 2023.Describing her aesthetic as raw but tender, Emma finds beauty in imperfection, and polish in the detail of everyday life. And through her lens, the most ordinary moments seem steeped in romance and intrigue, as if her subjects are characters in a movie playing in her head.On episode 200, Emma discusses, among other things:Is art more pure if it's done for the joy of it?Beauty and lyricismChildhood feelings of being an outsiderTaking pictures of her children from an early ageTrying to transmit how she felt in her workThe inclusion of still lifes of flowersWhy she started to photograph her mumThe issue of permission and consentHow the way she shot changed over timeReferenced:Nan GoldinRichard BillinghamNick WaplingtonVivian Maier4000 Weeks by Oliver BurkemanStuart SmithStephen Ledger-LomasNiall Sweeney Website | Instagram“When things line up, when life or the universe says ‘I've got something I can show you. Goran Stolevski is our latest guest, and the award-winning Macedonian-born and Australian-raised writer/director's latest masterpiece, Of an Age, is all I've been talking about since I watched it.Of an Age is a beautiful and moving film about an unexpected and intense twenty-four-hour romance between an eighteen-year-old Serbian ballroom dancer and his best friend's older brother. A decade later the pair meet for a bittersweet reunion.Directed with an abundance of love and care by Stolevski, this film was incredibly tender and honest, and the cinematography was as stunning as its performances. What a beautiful story!Stolevski came to prominence with short films including Would You Look at Her, winner of the Best International Short at Sundance 2018. Collectively his shorts played over 200 festivals worldwide including Clermont-Ferrand, Palm Springs, Melbourne and Raindance.
