That contrast between these celebrities says a lot. Stranger Things star Maya Hawke said she's happy and grateful that her mom aborted her sibling. Daniel Radcliffe, on the other hand, is a new dad and gushed that while the hard parts of parenting (like being tired and stressed) are easy to explain, the good parts are so wonderful they're hard to put into words. Why is abortion often celebrated publicly, while parenthood is framed almost entirely in terms of cost, struggle, and warnings? The joy in having children doesn't get much attention, even though parents would tell you it's one of the best things that ever happened to them. This conversation isn't about celebrity gossip. It's about what our culture chooses to praise, what it explains away, and what that says about how we view life, family, and love.Sources:Maya Hawke interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Por1MeYwKlUDaniel Radcliffe interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIpmK4u13-EDo you want to make a difference for moms, babies, and hospital patients? The last year has seen the election of several women to positions of political leadership: Sanae Takaichi as Prime Minister of Japan, Catherine Connolly as President of Ireland, and Jennifer Geerlings-Simons as President of Suriname. But, a recent report has suggested that trust in women leaders is declining globally. The Reykjavik Index For Leadership measures how women and men are perceived in terms of their suitability for leadership, not just in politics but across many sectors of society. So is this part of a trend of declining trust in women in positions of power? Kylie Pentelow is joined by Lois Taylor, Global Marketing Director of Verian Group who published the report, and BBC business journalist and presenter of Moneybox Live Felicity Hannah to discuss.Columnist Sarah Vine started losing her hair as a teenager and was eventually diagnosed with female pattern baldness, a hormonal condition. But now she has decided, after 15 years of wearing wigs, to reveal her own hair on the front cover of a national newspaper. She spoke to Kylie about her decision to bare all. According to a recent poll by US analytics firm Gallup, 40% of American women aged 15 to 44 would move abroad if they had the opportunity, with the desire to migrate among younger American women quadrupling in the past decade. Kylie talks to Josephine Harmon, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Northeastern University in Boston, and Bonnie Beuke – now 45 with two young children - who lives in London having left Seattle one-and-a-half years ago.Four-time Olivier Award-winning actress, singer and director Maria Friedman is still best known to many as the narrator in the film of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. But this Christmas, her hugely acclaimed Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim's musical Merrily We Roll Along, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff, is coming to cinemas. And Maria also stars in Tinsel Town, which sees Kiefer Sutherland play a washed-up Hollywood actor who ends up in a small town pantomime. Maria joins Kylie to talk about more than three decades on stage and screen, and spreading joy at Christmas. A quirky new romcom novel set against the sapphic dating scene is out. My Ex-Girlfriend's Wedding is about Hope, a folk musician who feels that she has nothing going for her: She's in a job she hates, has had to quit her band after losing the ability to play guitar; her very recent ex-girlfriend is now getting married. And so, she resolves there's nothing for it, but to accept an invitation to the wedding and try to win back the love of her life. Kylie asks Sophie Crawford about relationships with an ex, dating within the queer community and magic- all themes in her book.Presenter: Kylie Pentelow Producer: Corinna Jones
Merrily We Roll Along has landed in cinemas worldwide, providing a unique take on the multi-award-winning Broadway production, first seen in London, with Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez. Dennis is joined via Zoom by Maria Friedman director of the Broadway musical Merrily We Roll Along as well as the new filmed version of that Tony-winning stage production (which hits theaters on December 5th). Maria talks about her long history with the Stephen Sondheim musical as both actor and director, the themes that were on her mind as she approached this new version and what it was like to bring out the dark side of the ever-sunny Jonathan Groff. She also responds to the way Dennis experienced the show as a tragedy with Franklin Shepherd as its tragic hero. Other topics include: Daniel Radcliffe's Chaplin-esque appeal, the trouble with the uber rich, as depicted in the play and in modern day America, the idea that it's not too late to reach out to the old friends we've lost touch with and what her friend Stephen Sondheim would think of the show's success and new filmed version.
The spirit of Frankenstein still lives within us, Spookies — which is why we're just not ready to move on from some of those themes. This week, we're staying in the gothic horror genre as we cover The Woman in Black (2012), a remake of an '80s made-for-TV movie that stars Daniel Radcliffe in one of his first non-Potter roles. A ghost story with a karmic kick, this flick features chihuahuas in sailor suits, dancing monkeys, and all the ether you could ever dream of, so join us on a new Spooky Tuesday as we go trawling through the muck and fog to try and put some souls to rest.

Send us a textTurkey month is filled with surrealism isn't it?Today were talking about:What do you get when you mix Paul Dano, Daniel Radcliffe, and one very gassy corpse? That's right—Swiss Army Man (2016), the fart-fueled survival story that's equal parts heartwarming and stomach-turning.This week, we dive headfirst into the indie fever dream where flatulence becomes a flotation device, corpses give life advice, and loneliness gets very, very weird. We'll unpack the movie's deeper messages (yes, there actually are some) while laughing about the fact that someone pitched this script and A24 said, “Yeah, let's do it.”

With TIFF kicking off its 50th anniversary, we're throwing it back to some wild and unforgettable festival moments! In 2014, Maurie sat down with Benedict Cumberbatch to talk The Imitation Game — and got him to rate his British accent. That same year, Angelina Jolie wasn't doing press for The Breadwinner, but Maurie got her to stop and answer one bold question. And in 2013, we somehow convinced Daniel Radcliffe that fans wanted him cast in Fifty Shades of Grey. TIFF chaos at its finest!

Welcome back! We're easing back into the swing of things after our summer holidays with a bit of “cucumber season” fare. It's our regularly scheduled programming, just a little bit…sillier. This week, we take a peek into the world's first “sourdough library” with Karl De Smedt, head of the Puratos Sourdough Institute. Karl gives us a taste of his unconventional career preserving breadmaking biodiversity and explains why the starters in his library are a little like Europeans themselves. Plus: we learn why the Aalborg Zoo in Denmark is encouraging people to bring in unwanted pets and how Dominic “gave” Daniel Radcliffe his career(!). You can take a virtual tour of the Puratos sourdough library here and check out Karl on Instagram here. And if you want to find out more about the Stop Killing Games campaign, watch this video. This podcast was brought to you in cooperation with Euranet Plus, the leading radio network for EU news. But it's contributions from listeners that truly make it all possible—we could not continue to make the show without you! We'd also love it if you could tell two friends about this podcast. We think two feels like a reasonable number. Welcome back to Not A Bomb! This is the podcast where we explore some of cinema's biggest box office failures and decide whether they deserve a second chance. We are celebrating five years of discussing cinematic flops! Did you know the Roku Channel existed? (No, seriously, it's not just a screensaver for your TV!) Did you know they make original content? Did you know they handed over $8 million of actual, spendable money to fund a satirical biopic? Well, bust out your Hawaiian shirts and accordions, because all of that is true — and the result was Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. It's a wonderfully unhinged parody of the life of “Weird” Al, brimming with the kind of silly-yet-sincere sweetness only a man who made “Eat It,” “Like a Surgeon,” and “Amish Paradise” could deliver. This movie is criminally underseen (like, “should be serving a life sentence” underseen), and Troy and Brad spend this episode doing what any good friends would do — aggressively bragging at their listeners until they finally go watch it.Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is directed by Eric Appel and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Evan Rachel Wood, Rainn Wilson, Toby Huss, and Julianne NicholsonMerch store! Head over to the Not A Bomb Tee Public store and check them out. Special thanks to Ted Blair for the amazing designs! We're committed to hearing your feedback and suggestions. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. A well known phrase that could easily be applied to almost every survival situation. Unfortunately, when it really comes down to it; those who would like to get going can't wait around for anyone else. And that can be tough stuff. Though in this case it was more like “tough shit”.
