He met Dr. King and will share his memories of that experience and the impact it had on Seattle's racial climate. *Dr. Lora-Ellen McKinney's father, the late Reverend Dr. Samuel B. McKinney was a classmate of Dr. King's at Morehouse College and they were very close friends. It was at Reverend McKinney's invitation that MLK came to Seattle. Originally aired Tuesday, May 22, 2007, GUEST: Rev. Dr. Samuel B. McKinney (1926-2018), McKinney served as pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Seattle, WA, for 40 years. As a teen he befriended the younger Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and in adulthood participated with MLK in the Civil Rights Movement, inviting to Seattle. He attended the Selma to Montgomery marches in 1965 and served on the Seattle Human Rights Commission.
