It's a classic Washington power move — the late-on-Friday news dump. This past Friday, at 4:30pm, start of a long holiday weekend, about half the staff of the National Security Council got emails asking them to leave by 5pm. Dozens of people abruptly dismissed. The restructuring of the NSC as Secretary of State and National Security advisor Marco Rubio has characterized it — continues a trend in this second term for President Trump, of radical downsizing. The Trump administration plans to cut thousands of intelligence and national security jobs across the government. The US Government has long relied on scores of intelligence officials across the government to keep America safe. Trump wants many of them gone – what could that mean for security at home and abroad? The State Department has released a reorganization plan that would usher in significant changes to the way the United States conducts its diplomacy and foreign assistance, at a time of considerable geopolitical change. Proposals by the Trump administration include eliminating or restructuring a number of the Department's longstanding functions, dissolving and/or folding USAID into State, and imposing large budget and staffing cuts. Debates over how to structure and optimize the State Department, and U.S. foreign assistance programs in particular, are nothing new. But important questions remain about these proposals—including how they may interact with Congressional prerogatives; their implications for the conduct of U.S. foreign policy amidst compounding global crises; and, ultimately, whether these changes may herald a more streamlined and effective bureaucracy or undermine U.S. diplomatic power. On May 14, 2025, the Reiss Center on Law and Security and Just Security convened an expert panel to consider these vitally important developments and to unpack what's happening, what's at stake, and what lies ahead. Following up after episode 15, "What to Know When the Government Comes Knocking," Dr. Pensa interviews a physician who went up against the US Department of Justice -- and won. Dr. Muhamad Aly Rifai is a practicing psychiatrist, boarded in psychiatry and internal medicine, who was indicted on charges of healthcare fraud by the US government in 2022, following seven years of investigation. Dr. Rifai was confident he was innocent, and confident in his billing practices -- and despite intimidation by the government, threats of imprisonment for up to 40 years, and very long odds, he refused to settle. He won against the US Government after a 6-day trial, and is here to share what he learned in his ordeal. This Department of Justice press release describes the accusations against Dr. Rifai. (I feel they should update the headline!) After demonstrating that the case was baseless and should never have been brought to trial in the first place, along with his resounding victory in court, Dr. Rifai filed a motion for sanctions and to recoup his substantial legal fees. In the wake of that motion, one prosecuting attorney was fired, and two others have 'retired.' The motion, as of May 2025, is still in limbo. Dr. Rifai shares his story in an effort to educate all of us, and to empower physicians going through similar circumstances.
During WW2, to prevent the runaway inflation experienced in the 1st World War, the US Government established the Office of Price Administration to enforce price ceilings and regulate business. But after the war conservative forces started to push for their wholesale removal, the labor movement stepped up to try and prevent another great depression. Support the showwww.laborjawn.com

From busting drug lords to leading the Pentagon task force charged with bringing the 9/11 terrorists to justice, Mark Fallon has spent his career on the front lines of U.S. national security. My first guest is one of the most fascinating people I've interviewed. Former NCIS Special Agent in Charge Mark Fallon is a national security consultant, scholar, and expert in counterintelligence and counterterrorism who's been involved in some of the most significant terrorism investigations in U.S. history. Mark served more than thirty years in government—twenty-seven with the NCIS and two as a Senior Executive within the Department of Homeland Security. He received numerous awards and medals for his service, including the Department of Defense Counterintelligence Award for Outstanding Achievement and the U.S. Secret Service Director Honors Award. As an NCIS Special Agent, Mark operated undercover in some of the most dangerous places in the world—from infiltrating drug rings in Thailand to capturing poachers in Kenya. He takes us inside his undercover operations and describes his strategy for a successful mission. We talked about the interview and interrogation techniques that actually work (hint: they involve rapport and, occasionally, French fries), and the moment his wife discovered details of an undercover operation. In the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Mark was appointed Deputy Commander and Special Agent in Charge of the Pentagon task force, responsible for investigating terrorists for possible trials before military commissions. His critically acclaimed book, Unjustifiable Means: The Inside Story of How the CIA, Pentagon, and US Government Conspired to Torture (Regan Arts, 2017) offers a gripping account of the leadership challenges he faced while trying to bring terrorists to justice without compromising his oath to protect and defend the Constitution. Mark opens up about what it takes to lead under pressure, the duty to disobey an unlawful order, and why interrogators make the best first dates He shares leadership lessons that extend far beyond national security—tools for navigating crisis, conflict, and high-stakes decisions in any field. Today, as founder of ClubFed, Mark serves as an international security consultant and continues his mission for improving the practice of interviews and interrogations. Pulitzer Prize–winning investigative reporter Bill Dedman calls Mark Fallon "the Serpico in the war on terror," and high-ranking officials call him an American hero who's made the world safer. Catherine Austin Fitts, former assistant secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President George H.W. Bush, recently commented on how the US Government is responsible for $21-Trillion in “unauthorized spending” between 1998 and 2015 alone. This was documented by Mark Skidmore of Michigan State University in 2017. Catherine believes much of it went into “underground base and city infrastructure and transportation systems” that have already been built. A Washington Post article in 2010 documented the Hidden World of a massively complex national security and intelligence network infrastructure built across the country in the wake of 911. But that's only part of it, and only encompasses the decade between 2001 and 2010 - not to mention the $2.3-Trillion announced missing one day before 911 and the justification to build this infrastructure. It doesn't include the half a century of public and private construction projects for military command centers like NORAD at Cheyenne Mountain or VIP bunkers under Greenbrier Resort. Some of this is for military control, others for continuity of government, and still others for laboratories perhaps akin to the Hive, or simply for nuclear material storage. In fact NASA just found a decommissioned facility in Greenland that was home to Camp Century and Project Iceworm. All of this spending coupled with authorized military spending adds up to over half of the country's national debt. Many of these bunkers, command centers, facilities, etc., have price tags that in order to add up to the unauthorized trillions must be beyond vast, they must be numerous beyond what we can conceive. And these facilities are worldwide, likely under the ocean as much as they are buried into mountains. The wealthy are also building their own bunkers toady, some of which are luxury facilities. Then there are facilities built right under our feet and meant for flood preparations, like the G-Cans in Tokyo. There are also reports of odd booms and explosions hear around the world for several decades. Some is probably atmospheric, part is geological, and others are possible a result of these projects. *The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Did you know that a good part of American households haven't thought about retirement planning? When it comes to planning for retirement, there are some key concepts to understand and three traps you should do your best to avoid. Listen to learn why a money increase doesn't always equal a lifestyle enhancement, the three things people often look at but that come back to bite them later on, and how you can effectively plan for retirement and protect your money. As life expectancy increases, people will be finding themselves needing to save more money for retirement. Brian believes that it's going to be possible to be retired for as many years as one has worked, because people are living longer than ever before. According to a 2019 retirement confidence survey by the Employee Benefit Research Institute, more than half of American households are at risk of running out of money in retirement due to the lack of savings and the unpredictability of the stock market. If you look back and think about how much money you were making when you first started working and compare it to today, you should see an increase. However, more than a lifestyle enhancement, the increase is just an inflation adjustment. And the crazy thing is that only 42% of Americans have tried to calculate how much money they will need for retirement! Brian has noticed that many people go into retirement because of eligibility, without having actually calculated how much money they would need – this is a problem, especially because of three things that are outside of their control: inflation, markets, and taxes. To offset inflation, you need to earn more on your money than the inflation rate that is eroding your purchasing power. Want to protect yourself from market losses? Then, you either need to not be in the market or work to insulate your portfolio through diversification strategies that are challenging for most people to leverage. As far as taxes are concerned, the best way to tackle them would be to focus on building tax-free assets and stop the propensity to kick the “tax can” down the road. Even though these may sound like obvious moves, Brian has seen people do the opposite – with things like funding their 401k accounts, parking money in the bank, or pouring it into the stock market. Brian warns against tapping into the stock market as a means to draw income because it's the Government and Wall Street that have control over it, not you. There's a key difference that some people tend to forget when it comes to retirement planning: accumulating money is done one way, drawing income for retirement is done another way. Brian stresses the importance of not taking retirement planning lightly. Remember: underestimating the amount of money needed to maintain a comfortable lifestyle in retirement, or relying on too many things outside of your control can be a significant financial risk. With Dogespierre now stepping back to spend more time on his core businesses, we take an early look at DOGE's impact on US government spending, the likely overestimation of estimated savings, negative fiscal feedback loops from firing IRS workers, conflicts of interest and possible consequences of DOGE spending cuts. Once thought to be solely the stuff of science fiction, UAPs (UFOs) are very real to millions around the world. In 2021, the US Government confirmed that leaked UAP video was legitimate. Ever since, there has been an explosion of interest in the topic. Yet, we are no closer to understanding UAPs, where they come from, or who/what is behind the phenomenon. In this new series, we look to bridge the gap between the past and present by looking at some of the most important UAP sightings in history and determining whether the question of "are we alone in the universe?" might have already been answered. In this inaugural/introductory episode, Dave, Tunney, and DJ discuss many aspects of the present surge in UAP interest, popularity, and curiosity. How did a topic so undesirable to discuss become one of the most talked-about subjects in the world, with major stories seemingly breaking every week? The guys explore this and much more, including watershed moments like the 2017 New York Times article that changed everything, the formation of Skywatcher, more eye-opening videos shot off the Southern California coast in the past couple of years, and whistleblowers coming forward to make you question everything you thought you knew about our reality. UAPs are an undeniable truth. Who, or what, is behind this phenomenon is the 64 trillion-dollar question. Energy policy shifts in the U.S. are sparking concern as the government rolls back environmental regulations to fast-track oil and gas drilling. In this episode, we examine how these rollbacks could jeopardize ecosystems, especially marine environments, and undermine efforts to transition to clean energy sources. Environmental protections have long served as safeguards for biodiversity and climate resilience, but these new changes prioritize short-term energy gains over long-term sustainability. We discuss the potential consequences for marine protected areas, public health, and climate policy, and what you can do to take action.
