GDP Script/ Top Stories for July 12th Publish Date:  June 12th             From the Ingles Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast.   Today is Friday, July 12th and Happy heavenly Birthday to Fleetwood Macs Christine McVie. ***07.12.24 – BIRTHDAY – CHRISTINE MCVIE***   I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Gwinnett KIA Mall of Georgia. Man Arrested for Causing Damage At 4 Gwinnett Churches Gwinnett's Population Surpasses 1 million Residents Ohio Murder Suspect Arrested in Lawrenceville Plus, The Stripers Report with relief pitcher Matt Carasiti. All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: MOG   STORY 1: CHURCH VANDALISM: Man Arrested For Causing Damage At 4 Gwinnett Churches David Rangel, a 41-year-old Hoschton man, has been arrested by Gwinnett County police for vandalizing multiple churches in the Buford area. He faces 12 felony charges, including vandalism to places of worship and criminal damage to property. Using a small ratchet, Rangel allegedly smashed windows at four churches on July 9, including locations of 12Stone Church, Victory Church, and Zion Baptist Church. Video surveillance captured his actions, and police utilized Flock cameras to track his vehicle and make the arrest without incident. Rangel confessed to the vandalism, though police have not identified a clear motive. He is currently held on a $68,000 bond at Gwinnett County Jail. STORY 2: Gwinnett's Population Surpasses 1 Million Residents   Gwinnett County's population has officially surpassed 1 million residents, according to new estimates from the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC). The ARC's latest figures indicate Gwinnett County now has approximately 1.01 million people, marking an increase of 14,900 individuals, or 1.49%, from the previous year. This growth reflects a total rise of 55,050 people since the 2020 Census. Among the metro region's counties, only Fulton County exceeds Gwinnett in population, with about 1.12 million residents. Despite this milestone, Gwinnett ranked sixth in growth rate among the region's counties over the past year. The ARC's estimates, though released recently, may already be outdated as they are based on data up to April 2023, with the region now totaling an estimated 5.2 million people. STORY 3: APPREHENDED: Ohio Murder Suspect Arrested In Lawrenceville Kenyatta Domingo Glass, wanted for murder by the Columbus Police Department in Ohio, was arrested in Lawrenceville with assistance from the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Unit on June 24. He was located at a residence in Lawrenceville and taken into custody without incident by a SWAT team. Glass was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail on a fugitive from justice charge and subsequently released to the Columbus Ohio Division of Police on July 6. He was wanted in connection with the murder of Shawn Grooms at the Lotus Lounge in September 2023, where another individual was also injured. DNA evidence linked Glass to the crime scene according to reports from the Columbus Dispatch. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We'll be right back   Break 2: TOM WAGES   ***STRIPERS REPORT*** We'll be back in a moment   Break 3: INGLES 5   STORY 6:   Arson Suspect Now Faces Murder Charge Hong T. Huynh faces a new charge of murder after a man injured in a fire allegedly set by Huynh in Norcross died from his injuries. Huynh was initially charged with first degree arson, possession of tools for a crime, and aggravated assault for throwing molotov cocktails at two homes on June 1. Thuy Huynh, injured in one of these incidents, succumbed to his injuries on June 25. It's unclear if there's a familial relation between the two. Hong Huynh's address matches the location of one arson, not where Thuy was injured. Six people were at the other targeted home during the incident. A preliminary hearing is set for July 17 in Gwinnett County Magistrate Court. STORY 7: AROUND TOWN: Pair Of Gwinnett Leaders Earn Hall-of-Fame Honors Former Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris and Sugar Hill City Manager Paul Radford were inducted into the Georgia Municipal Association Hall of Fame for their significant contributions to municipal governance. Meanwhile, the Gwinnett County NAACP, recently reactivated by the National NAACP, is set to install new leadership under President Edward Paul. Also, The Forum Peachtree Corners will unveil its new social space, The Plaza, with an adults-only fundraising event benefiting Neighborhood Cooperative Ministries. Lastly, the Mitsubishi Electric Classic golf tournament has raised over $876,000 for local charities this year, including Cink Charities and Special Needs Schools of Gwinnett. We'll have final thoughts after this.   Break 4: G.O.N. Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Community members greeted kids on their way into Garfield High School in Seattle's Central District, after Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and the organization 100 Black Parents organized a massive show of support. Classes started up again Tuesday morning after a shooting on campus that claimed the life of 17-year old student, Amarr Murphy-Paine.  The shooter, believed to be another high school aged boy, has not been found or identified by Seattle Police.  Monday, a 15-year-old boy pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, among other charges, in the shooting death of a classmate at Ingraham High School in North Seattle in 2022.  In the wake of that shooting, Seattle Public Schools and local elected leaders pledged to step up mental health support for students and improve safety on school campuses and in surrounding neighborhoods. But nearby gun violence has since repeatedly shattered the peace at Garfield, putting the school on lockdown, and now another Seattle student has lost their life at school.   So – what's the answer? How do we protect kids at school –  the place where the LAST thing they should be worried about is dodging gunfire? GUEST: DeVitta Briscoe, Gun Violence Prevention Liaison for the city of Seattle, and founder of the Black Women's Coalition to End Violence.LINKS: KUOW: https://www.kuow.org/stories/gun-violence-prevention-advocate-starts-work-in-seattle-mayor-s-office South Seattle Emerald: https://southseattleemerald.com/tag/devitta-briscoe/ Seattle Times: https://www.seattletimes.com/opinion/a-lesson-from-my-losses-we-cannot-afford-to-completely-dismantle-the-police/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

According to reports, Cobb Police responded to distress calls about an armed man, identified as 83-year-old Thomas Yarborough, discharging a firearm in the East Cobb area. Despite commands to surrender his weapon, Yarborough allegedly continued firing, leading to an officer shooting him. Yarborough is currently in critical condition at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. The GBI's findings will be forwarded to the Cobb County District Attorney's Office for further review. No officers were harmed during the incident. STORY 2: Marietta Man Accused of Shooting 127 Rounds at “Ninja Like” People Richard Ray West, a 37-year-old resident of Marietta, is facing charges after reportedly firing 127 rounds from a 40-caliber handgun, claiming he was being pursued by "ninja-like" individuals. The incident, which unfolded at J & R Cycle Shop in Marietta, resulted in significant property damage. Following the incident, West is alleged to have stolen a blue 1987 Honda 700 Magna motorcycle. The museum, just a block away from the current Zion Baptist Church, showcases artifacts and photographs portraying life in the 19th and 20th centuries. Zion Baptist Church's history is rooted in the separation from First Baptist Church in Marietta, where segregated services began when a young girl named Dicey became the first African-American member. The museum aims to preserve this history for future generations, emphasizing the connection between the past and present. The church continues to host events during Black History Month to educate its members, particularly the youth, about their heritage and the struggles of the past. The museum and church stand as living witnesses to the significant moments that shaped Marietta's Black community. STORY 5: Fulton Prosecutor Avoids Testifying in Divorce Case Due to Temporary Agreement A divorce hearing in the case of Fulton County special prosecutor Nathan Wade, accused of an affair with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, was canceled as the couple reached a temporary settlement. The agreement addresses temporary issues like fee payments and asset use but leaves final matters unresolved. Wade avoided testifying this week, and future developments may include a full settlement or trial. The divorce case intertwines with the racketeering case filed against former President Donald Trump, where allegations of an improper relationship between Willis and Wade have surfaced. Subpoenas target Willis and Wade for a Feb. 15 hearing. We'll be back in a moment.   Break: INGLES 10 STORY 6: Cobb Commission Approves Land Swap to Protect Dobbins Air Reserve Base The Cobb Board of Commissioners reversed its decision to terminate a land swap agreement with Venture Properties, allowing the potential construction of condos in the accident potential zone of Dobbins Air Reserve Base. The 5-0 vote approved the swap, exchanging county-owned land off Terrell Mill Road with Venture's property on Leland Drive. The latter property falls within Dobbins' accident zone, where residential development is discouraged. The Cobb Department of Transportation plans to build a satellite facility on the Leland Drive property, costing over $3 million. A prior rezoning for condos faced backlash, with critics concerned about jeopardizing the base during future Base Realignment and Closure reviews. STORY 7: Gov. Kemp Signs New Cobb School Board Map into Law Governor Brian Kemp signed into law State Senator Ed Setzler's redrawn map of the Cobb County Board of Education's boundaries. Setzler's map replaces the one discarded by U.S. District Court Judge Eleanor Ross in December, following a lawsuit alleging racial gerrymandering. Setzler provided the data set for the new map to the Cobb Board of Elections, which is expected to implement it for this year's elections. Qualifying for four of the seven seats on the school board begins in March. Setzler believes the lawsuit is no longer relevant, and his map complies with the spirit of Judge Ross's order. Critics, including the Georgia Youth Justice Coalition, contend that the redrawn map employs gerrymandering to favor white supremacy. ***LIVE READ GCPS***   Hey, Cobb County! In the middle of a vintage Omaha, Nebraska snowstorm on January 20, 1963, DeaconAlan D. Carter was born to loving parents, Bro. Archie & Sis. Deanna Carter. He was the younger of two sons, and they remained best friends until the day he passed. Deacon Carter grew up in Omaha and graduated from Central High School in 1981. He attended Midland College in Fremont, Nebraska, and after obtaining his bachelor'sdegree, he completed the respiratory therapist program (two years) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and did further study in a one-year internship at Immanuel Hospital. In 1990, Deacon Carter met his future wife, Sis. Cindy Wilder and they had two lovely, vivacious daughters, Alicia and Brittany. Deacon Carter was also a stepfather to Cindy's son, Marcus. Deacon and Sis. Carter enjoyed 29 years of marriage, building a home for their children and a heart for God.Deacon Carter accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age, and wasbaptized by Pastor James S. Allen at Zion Baptist Church. He was a faithful member ofZion for many years and was ordained as a deacon under Pastor Kenneth Allen on Palm Sunday, April 17, 2011. Later that year, Sis. Carter was also elected a Deaconess.Deacon Carter especially loved serving in Zion's drama ministry and singing in thechoir.Deacon Carter loved the TV show, Frasier. He and Pastor Allen (also a Frasier fan) often had Frasier trivia contests; and Deacon Carter would always win! Deacon Carter liked to recite famous quotes and proverbs, and he loved root beer, especially IBC. He also liked watching sports, dancing, board games and card games (especially spades). He loved winning, but when he lost, according to his brother, “he was okay with it.”In 2018 Deacon Carter and his family moved to California to care for Sis. Carter'sparents. By this time, Alicia and Brittainy had finished their college degrees and were soon gainfully employed. In the ensuing years, Deacon Carter's health beganto fail, and he endured a number of hospitalizations and surgeries. Sometimes the universe just seems to bring people together.  Through a friend of a friend of a friend - I got hooked up with J Troy Gray.  Troy is the Pastor at Zion Baptist Church and the CEO & founder of Another Chance Ministries. One thing he and I have in common is feeling called to be active personally and professionally in the addiction treatment field and recovery effort in Ohio. Moreover, we both have life experiences that have led to this involvement. One difference, I am a person with a substance use disorder living in long term recovery - Troy comes to this as a father, a loved one dealing with addiction in his family. In Ep. 028, Pastor opens up about some of his previous ideology around addiction, the accomplishments he has seen happen for people involved in his ministry, and how he sent so much money through Western Union, they cut him off from wire transfers – turns out even WU has their limits on enabling. If it's odd, it's God. Not Your Average IV User is discoverable almost everywhere you listen to podcasts. You can help us out by telling all the people you love that this project exists.

We loved our sweet time encouraging the ladies at Zion Baptist Church in Brownsville, TN for their Kollao event.   On this episode, we recap our favorite takeaways from Ephesians 4 which challenges us to put on a new humanity and become mature and wake up and do what Jesus did!  We talk about how to do this and why it matters.  We sure don't want a shallow faith! 1. Unity is not the same as uniformity.  Run YOUR race.  Remember who you are in Christ!  He gave you unique gifts and talents to use them! And don't get caught up in comparison.  Someone else shining brightly doesn't dull your sparkle!  There is only one you and our world needs you! 2. It's time to grow up! The old way has to go.  We have to daily renew our minds and get in our bibles.  Make confession a habit.  Sanctification is a lifelong process that requires effort and discipline.  The effort is worth it!   There is power in confessing our sins to one another.  3. We are new creations in Christ.  What does that practically look like in our words, our temperament, our relationships, and our behavior?  Say what helps! Kind words - no corrupting talk just building up! We end with the beautiful reminders from Ephesians 6 - resist the devil and armor up!  We need each other because if the devil can isolate us, he can influence us.  You can also watch this week's episode on our YouTube Channel!  Proverbs 16:24: "Kind words are like honey— sweet to the soul and healthy for the body."
