Seguro que tienes algunaThe BeatlesWhen we talk about the Beatles all of us have a favourite or unforgettable song, or at least people from my generation have it. They split up 40 years ago, only half of them are still alive, however they are often in the news and they are among the highest earning bands.Even their logo is a symbol, by the way, did you know the logo design cost 5 pounds. The album covers are also a symbol, like Sargent Pepper and Abbey Road that was originally going to be called Everest, but the band went off the idea as they had to travel to the place to shoot the album cover, in the end they decided to name the album “Abbey Road” as the name of the street where the recording studio was and they shot the zebra crossing which has been granted grade listing. After 40 years, everything around Beatles keeps on being news, even old stories like the one I read some days ago which told that John Lennon wasn’t a good student, he even was expelled from school for bad behaviour “ Certainly on the road to failure… hopeless… rather a clown in class…. Wasting other pupils’ time” Amazing description of somebody who would later become one of the most influential and important in his country”Ringo and Paul have gone onto a successful solo career, they collaborate with other bands and their opinions are still important, just as an example the controversy that Ringo caused when he claimed he rarely returns to Liverpool, and appeared disgusted when he asked if he would ever move back there. Angry fans in the city cut off the head of the drummer of the monument made in the cityI’m not one of those fans that cry or write letters to their idols but I have to admit that when I step Abbey Road I felt something specialWhich one is your favourite song? I’m sure you have at least one.
As listeners to this podcast know, one of my recurring themes is an attempt to unravel the “sixties” , to figure out what aspects of the so-called counter-culture were the contributions to consciousness I felt they were as a teenager, and which were and counter-productive. It’s occurred to me recently that the year 1967 was pivotal. It had the “Summer of Love,” and also several race riots. It was the year that Muhammad Ali refused to be inducted into the Army and the year that the Beatles released Sargent Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club and All You Need Is Love. It was the year of the first albums by Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Velvet Underground and The Grateful Dead . It was the last full year of Martin Luther King’s life and the first full year when LSD was illegal in most of the United States. I cold not think of anyone better to ponder the significance and insignificance of that year than my friend and Mind Pod icon David Silver who in 1967 was hosting the counter-culture PBS TV show in Boston called What’s Happening Mr. Silver. “
The influence of West Coast AOR runs deep in the souls of many career musicians. Ask any studio or touring musician about their inspirations and you’re bound to hear an answer that would include the talented players who laced the liner notes of the great albums from the 70’s and 80’s. Tim Cashion is no exception. For the past 15 years, Tim has provided keyboard and vocal support to the legendary band Grand Funk Railroad. Prior to that, he has toured with the likes of Takanaka, Robert Palmer, Jon Secada and Bob Seger. Yet deep in his musical soul there lied a passion for West Coast AOR. In 2005, Tim began to explore this musical path and created the tracks that became his personal Sargent Pepper’s titled “Find Us On The Dial.” The album sat in silence – until now. To tell us more about this incredible album and the unique story about its release is Tim Cashion.
The gang is back but they have a little less to drink because Sam is off the wagon. Dane has to spend a week at a hotel while his floors are repaired. The Sargent Pepper movie played over and over again. Cookies family is going to be on Dr. Phil this week. There is some Bad Beer. Due to Sam's renewed love of drinking there is not much direction but the guys had a good time. Call the comment line at (206) 309-7308. Check out the Isignificast Facebook Page. Thanks for listening.
