Pat talks with callers about Bruce Springsteen and Bob Seger.
On this week's show, we wish a very happy 80th birthday to Bob Seger, spend quality time with new records from The Waterboys, Murray Attaway & Craig Finn and spin fresh tracks from Bruce Springsteen, The Feelies & The Beths. All this & much, much less. Debts No Honest Man Can Pay is a podcast that thinks it's a radio show...because it used to be one. The show started in 2003 at WHFR-FM (Dearborn, MI), moved to WGWG-FM (Boiling Springs, NC) in 2006 & Plaza Midwood Community Radio (Charlotte, NC) in 2012, with a brief pit-stop at WLFM-FM (Appleton, WI) in 2004. It phoenixed into a podcast in 2020, thanks to the fine and fabulously furious folks at NRM Streamcast.
So many music fans want to be in the time capsule, jump back and be present when the music not only started, but to be a fly on the wall and absorb the scents, the colors, the sounds, the discussions, the drugs, the sex, debochery, the arguments, heartbreaks and everything just to separate the myth from the history. Miss Barbara Bacon was the 17 year old on the scene, taking it all in and living to tell all about it. The Stooges, Ted Nugent, Mark Farner, Mc5, Bob Seger, The Who at the Holiday Inn Flint, Alice Cooper, Pete Andrews, Craig Frost, Twiggy, SRC, Michael Bruce...just a smear of the stories she has from backstage, homesteads, and hotels, to long trips, joint-sharing, bi-sexual reality, and the front row ticket to every event. Barbara has submitted Stooges and other artwork to the Michigan Rock Legends Hall of Fame and now has decided to do the ULTIMATE name drop and recall all her unreal stories. However, don't call her a groupie, she sat shotgun, witnessed and made wise decisions not to partake in the private world, while her older sister and friends reaped fringe benefits. Barbara is a walking encyclopedia of Detroit, Pontiac, Ann Arbor and the world of rock and roll, via mid to late '60s and beyond. From Mitch Ryder to Mt. Holly--these are her stories. Part one of two, coming in HOT.....now!
Tom Bergeron shares the wonderful story of him actually calling the three stooges when he was a kid. It seems people will never stop taking a dump where they shouldn't. We celebrate Bob Seger's 80th birthday and we explain how a lady saved her dog from being eaten by a bear by using a bag of cookies. And make no mistake, we are a teaching podcast; I share two words that if used by you, proves you are lying. By not listening, you only harm yourself.
Fáilte ar ais chuig eagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo ar an 6ú lá de mí Bealtaine, liomsa Lauren Ní Loingsigh. I 1972 bhí fuadaitheoir ar eitleán I Washington an oíche roimhe agus dúirt siad leis an phíolóta chun an t- eitleán a leaindeáil agus chuir siad cheist I gcóir 115 míle punt chun 48 paisinéirí a scaoil. Tháinig John Lennon lena amhrán Imagine sa dara háit, Hey Jude ó The Beatles tar éis. Bhí Dancing Queen ó ABBA sa cheathrú háit agus Madonna le Like A Prayer sa cúigiú háit. I 2005 stop Starbucks á dhíol albam ó Bruce Springsteen Devils and Dust de bharr go raibh ábhar aosach ann. Beidh mé ar ais libh amárach le heagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo. Welcome back to another edition of Ar An Lá Seo on the 6th of May, with me Lauren Ní Loingsigh 1972: a hijacker held up an airliner over washington last night and forced the pilot to land, demanded £115,000 for the release of the 48 passengers, got it and then flew away. 1983: almost 900 more people had joined the dole que and they were likely to be joined by another 1,300 this morning after the blackest day on the jobs front since the recession began. 2001 – The Nationalist newspaper in Clonmel were celebrating again, following their second Lotto win in over seven years. The 33-strong syndicate will travel to Lotto headquarters to collect the £1,000,000 cheque. At least 1,500 students from the Ursuline, Presentation, CBS, and Colaiste Co-Educational secondary schools joined forces for the record That was Tony Di Bart with The Real Thing – the biggest song on this day in 1994 Onto music news on this day In 2002 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen was voted the UK's favourite single of all time in a poll by the Guinness Hit Singles book. 'Imagine' by John Lennon was voted in at No.2 and ‘Hey Jude', The Beatles No.3, 'Dancing Queen' by ABBA was fourth and Madonna 'Like A Prayer' was in fifth place. 2005 US coffee shop chain Starbucks banned the sale of Bruce Springsteen's latest album Devils and Dust over concerns about its adult content. The retailer - which stocked CDs at its branches in the US - said it would be promoting other albums instead. And finally celebrity birthdays on this day – singer Bob Seger was born in America in 1945 and actor George Clooney was born in America on this day in 1961 and this is some of the stuff he has done. I'll be back with you tomorrow with another edition of Ar An Lá Seo.
With mid-‘60s hits such as “Jenny Take a Ride!” and “Devil with a Blue Dress On,” Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels all but created the rock ‘n' soul rave-up, and he became the musical godfather of the so-called blue-collar rockers including Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp. In this career-spanning conversation conducted from his Michigan home, the 80-year-old Ryder reflects on the impact that he and Detroit had on each other, the genesis of those early hits, the assist he gave the Who and Cream, the insulting question he fielded from the British press, his reasons for stepping away from the rock ‘n' roll life in the early '70s, his resurgence in Europe and his continued work into 2025 with a new album, With Love, produced by fellow Detroiter (and previous Caropop guest) Don Was. There's also a priceless Prince story. (Photo by Alejandro Saldana.)

(00:00-6:52) We're not health shaming Doug. You can get air fryer wings crispy with baking powder. Clauses and sentences.(7:00-20:17) It's a Bob Seger celebration today. All the hot guys gravitate towards Tim. Larry Nickel is on the phone lines. He doesn't know John Skorz, and he does send Jackson salty texts sometimes when he doesn't get on air. Recapping last night's Raw. Larry won't be at Backlash this weekend. Tim's having Instagram issues. Struck a nerve with Jets fans.(20:27-29:40) Jim Bowden writes in The Athletic that team like the Cardinals and other non-contending teams shouldn't wait until July to trade off some players. Jim and John engage in a lively chat about morning sounds, pesky doves, and the heroic work of nurses. They reminisce about the evolution of radio studios, Bob Seger's timeless tunes, and who might own today's music scene. (We agree that it's probably Taylor Swift.) The guys put out a Quick Poll on what categories they might actually win first place in at next year's Wisconsin Broadcasters Association awards. Our episode features Jonathan Rundman, singer/songwriter from Minneapolis, who has a new Americana rock and roll album called "Waves". It is a fascinating and fun talk about 80's rock music, The Silos and the circle of friends that includes Cracker, The Vulgar Boatmen, and all they that have influenced. If you dig 80s rock, his tales are what you might want. We talk about Bob Seger, the Rainmakers, The Hooters, and lots more. Born and raised in the isolated Finnish-American communities of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and now based in Minneapolis, Rundman twists smart, cinematic, rock and roll lyrics, pop hooks, and garage attitude into his songs. In addition to his solo career, Rundman tours and records as keyboardist for legendary New York City-based Americana/rock band The Silos. Rundman released his first new album in ten years in April, 2025 and is on a Midwest tour opening for the Silos. For the past decade he's been touring and recording with Walter Salas-Humara and The Silos. The pre-release single from the album, “Elizabeth, Don't Waste Your Breath” was co-written with Salas-Humara and the second single from the record, “Let's Put On An Opera”, champions the artistic process, backed by vintage analog keyboards from the 1960s, including a Wurlitzer electric piano, a Vox Continental organ, and a real tape-powered Chamberlin. His producer, Ron Gomez, told Jonathan that he should record some interstitial music, instrumental pieces that weave in between the songs. "We talked about albums we liked, featuring these kinds of moments, like the acoustic transition after the song 'Nights of Mystery' by the Georgia Satellites. Referencing "Nights of Mystery"? I'm all in. That's what I needed to hear. You like the Vulgar Boatmen? Del Fuegos? Replacements? Gear Daddies? Cracker? A little Elvis Costello and Rockpile? Rhode Island's multi-platinum John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band, will be celebrating 50+ years in the business with the release of "Sound of Waves," a new 13 song album, their first in 37 years. In 1982, John Cafferty was commissioned to write and perform the soundtrack for a film that turned out to be "Eddie and the Cruisers,' a rock cult classic with a triple platinum soundtrack. Cafferty's soulful, raspy voice propelled the movie's theme "On the Dark Side" to # 1 on the Billboard Rock charts and the MTV video charts, while the movie's second hit "Tender Years" rose into the Top 10 of the Billboard AC charts. Today John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band continue to tour around the world. That tour will bring them to NYC for an album release concert at the Cutting Room on Thursday, April 10th, the same date as the album release, from Moonstone Music. According to Cafferty, the new album almost didn't happen. After almost four decades of not writing and recording new music, he was encouraged by Bruce Springsteen to do it again. Over the years, Cafferty and company have jammed on stage with many of the greats of rock and roll, including Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Dion, and opened on tour with the Beach Boys, Foreigner, and Bryan Adams. Starting May 28th, Cafferty joins Rick Springfield on his "I Want My 80s Tour" for selected dates, along with John Waite and Wang Chung."The 'Sound of Waves' album is a celebration of a lifetime legacy as musicians and 50+ years as a band. The songs are newly written with a respectful reflection of colors from an era of music's diverse history and the precious life moments and loving relationships that have served as our hearts' inspiration," said Cafferty. The title track from the group's 1985 album, "Tough All Over" became their second # 1 on the Billboard Rock Charts and the song "C-I-T-Y" reached the Billboard Top 20. Over the years, John has placed 35 songs in major motion pictures. They included Sylvester Stallone's "Rocky "IV," and "Cobra." The Farrelly Brothers hit films "There's Something About Mary" and "Dumb and Dumber Too," & Eddie and the Cruisers I and II. The lead single from the group's upcoming album is "Day In the Sun," which was spotlighted in Peter Farrelly's film "Rick Stanicky." Here's a video link of a live performance: Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1xHCR8BDus All songs on the new release were written by Cafferty. The Rhode Island rockers put out their first "Greatest Hits" album in 2022 on Iconoclassic Records. In addition to band founder Cafferty, two original members remain in the group. They are guitarist Gary Gramolini and saxophonist Michael "Tunes" Antunes. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

The Romantics, a band synonymous with the vibrant energy of American rock and the catchy hooks of '80s new wave, havea story deeply rooted in the musical landscape of Detroit. At the heart of this narrative is Mike Skill, the band's founding lead guitarist and a principal songwriter, whose journey before and during his time with The Romantics showcases a blend of influences, adaptability, and a passion for music thatcontinues to resonate with audiences today. Mike Skill grew up on the east side of Detroit, a city pulsating with musical innovation. The '60s brought the British Invasion, with bands like The Kinks, The Who, The Beatles, The Hollies, and The Rolling Stones capturing the imagination of young musicians worldwide. Skill was no exception; he found himself captivated by the raw energy and melodic sensibilities of these British acts. This fascination wasn't just about the music—it was about the attitude, the style, and the revolutionary spirit that these bands embodied. But Detroit had its own musical heartbeat. The city was a melting pot of sounds, from the soulful rhythms of Motown to the gritty garage rock of local bands. Influences like the MC5, the Stooges, and early Bob Seger were instrumental in shaping Skill's musical outlook. He absorbed the sincerity, irony, spontaneity, and volume that characterised Detroit's late '60s rock scene, blending it with the melodic hooks of theBritish bands he admired. By the mid-70s, Skill was ready to channel his influences into something original. In 1977, he joined forces with Wally Palmar, Rich Cole, and Jimmy Marinos to form The Romantics—a name befitting their debut on the day of love. Their mission was clear: to create music that was fresh yet familiar, blending the infectious energy of British pop with the raw power ofAmerican rock. Detroit's music scene was both a challenge and aninspiration. The city was teeming with talent, and standing out required not just skill but also a unique identity. The Romantics distinguished themselves with their short hair, tailored suits, and high-energy performances. They favoured concise, punchy songs that got straight to the point—a reflection of both their punk influences and the pop sensibilities of the British Invasion. The Romantics' relentless gigging paid off and they recorded their self-titled debut album with British producer Pete Solley. Released in 1980, this album marked the dawn of a new decade and introduced the world to "What I Like About You." With its infectious beat and catchy chorus, the song became a defining track of the era. As the musical landscape shifted in the early '80s, the emergence of new wave brought synthesizers, polished production, and a more commercial sound to the forefront. The Romantics, rooted in garage rock and power pop, faced the challenge of evolving without losing their identity. Mike Skill's left the band after the 1980 release of "National Breakout." The lineup change coincided with the band's subtle incorporation of new wave elements into their music. Their 83 album, "In Heat," showcased this evolution, with tracks like "Talking in Your Sleep" blending their signature rock energy with the melodic hooks and production sheen characteristic of new wave. The song became one of their biggest hits. Despite lineup changes and the ebb and flow ofmusical trends, The Romantics have remained a constant presence in the rock scene. Mike Skill's return to the band in 2010 revitalised their live performances. The story of The Romantics, with Mike Skill's journey at its core, is the embodiment of the timeless spirit of rock music—a blend of passion, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to the craft. Mike joins us today to share his story,#theromantics #musichistory #newwavemusic #80smusic

We wanna hear from you! Send us a message here :) We're at CRS 25' with Lucas Hoge & Darryl Worley! Find out more about each artist below! With equal ease and finesse, No. 1 Billboard-charting artist Lucas Hoge can craft a song, cast a line, or call in a turkey in front of a film crew - all while holding an audience's attention on stage when performing. As a warm, engaging television host on hit Sportsman Channel, Heartland Network, and American Country Network show Hoge Wild, Hoge finds himself in over 155 million households annually, taking viewers across the globe as he travels to places like New Zealand, Bolivia, South Africa, and unchartered territory in North America. With a guitar in one hand and a bow in the other, Hoge treks the world to amplify his passion for the outdoors and change the narrative around conservation with each weekly Hoge Wild episode. Season 5 began airing in June 2024 and, in the first four months, has already seen over 10 million minutes viewed. Stay connected with Lucas here. The rich, reedy tones and all-American, blue-collar themes in his #1 hits “I Miss My Friend,” “Awful, Beautiful Life” and “Have You Forgotten?” are reminders of the down-to-Earth, Haggard-like Darryl Worley you always knew. The island vibes and blue-eyed soul in new songs “It's Good To Be Me,” “Lay It On Me” and “Lonely Alone” suggest there's another, almost-funky, version of Worley that's been kept under wraps. The alternate sides are both on display in Second Wind: Latest and Greatest, a project that mixes the traditional-country history he established in Nashville with the ragged soul that's deep in the bones of Muscle Shoals, a musical Alabama hotbed where Worley got his start. The area hosted hit sessions for Aretha Franklin, Bob Seger, Wilson Pickett and The Rolling Stones, and the sweaty swagger of the region's recording studios was a perfect fit for Worley as he recorded an album that re-establishes him in country culture. Readings for the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord: Malachi 3:1-4; Luke 2:22-40Continuing my shameless ripping off of the titles of famous songs (and this time, my apologies to Bob Seger), we hear a familiar story that sounds so wonderful at first listen. A couple presents their child in the Temple and people come out of the woodwork to proclaim his title, mission and ministry. Who wouldn't be consoled by that? If only Simeon would've stopped halfway through. But he didn't. He looks directly and Mary and Joseph and tells them what lies ahead for them, should they continue to move forward. Yet they do. They steel themselves and walk into the future. Our faith invites the same from us. It's not all duckies and bunnies. Special thanks to my daughter, Bridget Zenk, for her composition and performing of our intake and outtake music. And thanks to my son, Shamus, for setting me up on this host and helping me figure all of this technical stuff out. Of course - thanks to you, as always. Thanks for listening, for trusting, for passing it along, for rating. I'm humbled and grateful. Have a question or comment? I can be reached at pdjoezenk@gmail.com
