Woodard, 24, was struck while walking in the gore zone between State Route 316 and the Boggs Road entrance ramp. The suspect vehicle, a 2019-2022 Lexus RX350 or RX 450, has damage to the front passenger-side bumper and headlight. Anyone with information should contact GCPD detectives or Crime Stoppers, where anonymous tips can earn a cash reward for information leading to an arrest and indictment. STORY 2:  Runners Will Paint Gwinnett Pink To Help Fight Breast Cancer The Ninth Annual Paint Gwinnett Pink 5K Run/Walk is set for October 19 at Coolray Field, supporting breast cancer treatment at Northside Hospital Gwinnett. Participants can register until October 17, with fees at $35, or $25 for survivors. The event, starting at 9 a.m., includes vendor booths, opening remarks, and a survivor celebration. New this year, Eight Arms Axe Throwing will host an Axe Throwing for Breast Cancer Awareness event from 8 to 11 a.m., offering a unique way for participants to channel their frustrations and support the cause. Registration is available at www.paintgwinnettpink.com. STORY 3:  Longshoremen's strike silences Georgia ports The ports of Savannah and Brunswick remain closed due to a longshoremen's strike affecting East and Gulf coast ports. The International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) demands higher pay and an end to automation from the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX). ILA President Harold Daggett criticized USMX for prioritizing profits over fair compensation for American workers. The Georgia Ports Authority stated it will reopen the ports once an agreement is reached. The strike, the first since 1977, could lead to increased prices and potential shortages as the holiday shopping season approaches. Under faculty supervision, DPT students will provide education on injury prevention, wellness, and conduct screenings for strength, flexibility, and balance. This initiative aims to reduce injury severity and speed up dancers' recovery. STORY 5:  Hooters of Gwinnett employees will wash cars for breast cancer research Hooters of Gwinnett is hosting a "Give A Hoot Car Wash" on October 19 from noon to 4 p.m. at their Duluth location to raise funds for breast cancer research. Proceeds from the event will be donated to support these efforts. Hooters officials highlighted the event's theme with a "splash of pink," encouraging community support for the cause. Closures include all Gwinnett County Public Library branches, Georgia Gwinnett College classes, and the GGC Preview Day. Gwinnett County Courts have canceled hearings and trials, except for first appearances at the Detention Center. The Animal Welfare's Return to Community Cat Program and all Health and Human Services senior centers will also be closed. The Tax Commissioner offices closed early on Thursday and will remain closed today. STORY 7:  Georgia Supreme Court disqualifies West, De la Cruz from presidential ballot Piedmont Eastside Medical Center is hosting a "Rock the Ribbon" event on October 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Snellville, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Held at the Breast and Diagnostic Center, the event will feature opening remarks by Snellville Mayor Barbara Bender and discussions with Piedmont physicians. Attendees can tour the Breast Center, enjoy tea and pastries, and participate in prize drawings. The event aims to raise awareness and encourage understanding of mammogram services, emphasizing the importance of health. David Chiverton is a Miami Florida native who continues to work and live in south Florida. The cultural diversity in Miami as well as his upbringing in the gospel church both played a heavy role in shaping him into the musician he is today. He has toured internationally with various major talents such as Lauryn Hill, Jon Secada, Donnie McClurkin and Sheila E to name a few. His range of musical versatility includes Jazz, Gospel, Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, and the ability to freestyle on cue. Not only does David teach as an Adjunct professor at University of Miami, He is also member of the group The Smoogies. The band leans into the diverse background of it's members to influence its sound and direction. Also, David shares the stage with Harvel Nakundi, another drummer for a powerful double drumming sound. The “Chivertone Sessions” on YouTube showcases David's diverse skill set. Billboard Magazine's focus on the South Florida Recording scene referred to Lee Levin as "the city's most in demand drummer". Since graduating the University of Miami in 1989, Lee has played on more than 1000 recordings for a variety of artists throughout the world including Barbra Streisand, Madonna, Backstreet Boys, Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Nelly Furtado, Clay Aiken, Christina Aquilera, Michael Bolton, Sarah Silverman, Meat Loaf,  Luis Fonsi, Calle 13, Ricardo Arjona, Alejandro Sanz, Juan Luis Guerra, Enrique Iglesias, Julio Iglesias, Ricky Martin, Eros Ramazzotti, Shakira and many others.  His drumming can also be heard on ESPN and NBC Sports shows.   Lee was the Musical Director/Drummer for Bad Bunny on the Ultimo Tour Del Mundo US/Canadian Arena tour and has previously toured/performed with Barry Gibb/BeeGees, Luis Fonsi, Ricky Martin, Christopher Cross, Julio Iglesias, and Jon Secada. Although mostly known as a studio session player, Lee continues to be  co-musical director for the Latin GRAMMY house band on the telecast.   Besides TV and award shows, he has performed Classical and Jazz concerts, including the World Premier of the Elvis Costello/Twyla Tharp Ballet, “Nightspot”.   As a writer, Lee has written and/or recorded commercials for Pantene, Bellsouth, Florida Lottery, McDonalds, and Domino's Pizza. Brandon Wineinger, her boyfriend, was arrested by Brookhaven Police on charges of false statements, tampering with evidence, kidnapping, and burglary. He has also been charged with concealing another's death. The investigation is ongoing, and the cause of death is still under investigation, with the possibility of additional charges. On September 26, Hamilton requested help with a bathroom repair, then brandished a handgun and taser, demanding the victim to lie down, zip-tying his arms, and stealing his wallet and watch before fleeing in an older-model Honda with Texas license plate SSF5628. Hamilton has active warrants for armed robbery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and possession of a firearm during a felony. Anyone with information should contact GCPD detectives or Crime Stoppers for a potential cash reward. Hamilton is considered armed and dangerous.   STORY 3: Lawrenceville's Quinn House has helped men recover from addiction for more than 30 years The Quinn House in Lawrenceville has been aiding individuals in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction for over 30 years, offering a 40-day residency program with an 80% success rate. Rickie Smokes, now the executive director and CEO, was a beneficiary of the program himself. The nonprofit also runs a thrift store and food pantry, distributing over 1.2 million pounds of food in the last fiscal year and providing various community services like Easter baskets, back-to-school supplies, and Christmas gifts. The thrift store generates revenue to support Quinn House, and a community church is housed inside. The organization's mission is to help those in need on their spiritual and recovery journeys. Opportunities continued to arise and at 19 she landed a songwriting contract with Latin pop star Jon Secada and moved to Miami. When the contract ended she had difficulty breaking through as an independent artist and currently works as a driver for a ride share company that provides free rides using fully electric vehicles. Raquel hopes to finally make her music dream a reality on “The Voice.”
