Faith gives us the ability to consider it joy when facing trials because God has a purpose for the painful circumstance.
Faith gives us the ability to consider it joy when facing trials because God has a purpose for the painful circumstance.
What are the purposes of trials? According to Scripture, God uses trials to work in us perseverance.
God uses pivotal circumstances to grow our faith. Sometimes these circumstances can be positive (new work opportunity, growing family, etc.), but many times God uses trouble and pain to grow our faith and reliance on Him. Pivotal circumstances test our faith, but from that blessing comes (James 1).
James addressed a church undergoing persecution and told them to welcome trials with joy. He explains that we can be joyful in suffering because we know that God is refining our faith resulting in a steadfast spirit. The result is our perfection and lacking in nothing. It is what we long to attain. Therefore, we should have joy in the process knowing the end results.
God intends for humanity to be strong and powerful. The problem is, most of the time human strength is either left unused or is used to abuse. God has a plan to get you strong. Growing in strength is about becoming truly human again.

Maturity in life comes as a result of growing through lessons and experiences, many of them painful. The same is true with maturity in our spiritual life: it is developed by how we endure and engage with our many and various trials. Join us as we learn from James the attitude that should inform our daily walk in pursuit of maturity!
We all have tests, trials and temptations. The book of James says that whenever we have them, not if we have them. So, what can we do? James is a very practical book and the first few verses tell us what to do. The passages tell us to rejoice when we confront them and to let them work through us as each one makes us stronger and more mature. Give this a look and you will go away more equipped the next time you go through stuff.

Building God's Kingdom, God's Way!
We live in one of the wealthiest counties, in one of the richest nations in the world. The problem isn't having wealth, it's in hoarding wealth. James isn't talking about how much you have but what you do with what you have and where your heart is.
We've heard it said before "Attitude is everything!" Certainly our attitude in a situation changes not only how we view it, but also how we handle it. That is the subject of James opening to his church scattered about. No matter what they face in life because of their faith in Jesus the attitude they have can make or break them. The same is true for us and as we look at these verses we will see what that attitude is that is so needed, how to develop it in us if it's missing, and what end we are working toward.

The Lord desires His people to be faithful and mature in service to Him. Some attributes that we should strive to have in our lives are among the following: Adding to our joy, avoiding sin, avoiding false teachers and prophets, and strengthening our faith and ensuring our salvation. We will briefly discuss these four attributes during this series.
We exist for the praise of the glory of God’s grace in Christ Jesus. Everything we do as a church must bring glory to God in the name of Christ Jesus. We are an intergenerational church. We strive to make a seamless journey of faith from birth to old age. We are overtly trinitarian. We are always looking for the work of the Father through the Son by the power of the Holy Spirit. We value people. We present the ideal of God’s plan while embracing the reality of life.

“God's people have their trials. It was never designed by God, when he chose his people, that they should be an untried people. They were chosen in the furnace of affliction; they were never chosen to worldly peace and earthly joy. Freedom from sickness and the pains of mortality was never promised them.” CH Spurgeon These words by Spurgeon reflect a certain reality that our contemporary culture has a hard time dealing with. God has not promised to take away our struggles or to fix every problem. What He has promised to do, is to give meaning and context to the hardships that we face in this broken world around us. Because of sin, the world around us does not function or work in the way God intended; one day it will once again, but not today. IN the meantime, God has promised to give purpose and hope to the hearts and minds of His people during their times of struggle. Join us in this message as we see what God has promised to do.
We can have peace and contentment in trials knowing that God uses them to grow our faith.
Joy is not dependent on an emotion. Happiness has little to do with it. Joy, like gratitude, is a choice not an emotion. What are you allowing to steal your joy?
God will fulfill His purpose through our trouble and use it for our good.

We often don’t realize the deadly process that is taking place when we are being tempted. Temptation (enticing our desires) often wears a mask, so we often mistake it as harmless.

When going through a trial it is important that we remain unmoved in our character, staying in the same state of joy and peace as we stand in faith for victory. Too often we get into anxieties and cares which cause the Word to be unfruitful in our lives.

Refusal to give up is key if we are going to grow up in all things. To continue to mature we have to have a growth mindset. We need to learn to stick with it and not give up when it gets hard or uncomfortable.
