Prayer: How Do We Listen to God? // Chris Dolson | 09.01.24
Think of the last time you read the Bible or listened to a sermon. Do you know what God wanted that passage of Scripture to accomplish in your life? And is it being accomplished?

Talk to God. Listen to God. Be With God. Let's refocus on what is most important on our journey with God. #PracticetheWayofChristGroup Life Questions1. Take some time to pray in a contemplative form: Talk To God/Listen To God/Be with God. Give the group 15 minutes to pray in this way. Distribute scriptures to the group to focus on during that time to set the tone. Collect again and discuss your experience from that time with God.2. How current are you in your obedience to God? 3. What is one thing that you are currently struggling to trust God with?4. Do you find it uncomfortable just sitting in the presence of God or do you feel that there always has to be talking?5. What will your week look like this week as you build into your schedule time to talk to God, listen to God, and be with God?
Spend time regularly in God's Word, and you'll learn to hear His voice.
You might have heard someone say, “God told me _____” or “I heard/felt God say ______,” but what does “hearing” from God actually mean? How do we know if it is God is speaking and what he is even speaking to us? In this episode, we explore the different ways God speaks to us—through Jesus and by scripture, circumstances, desires, prophecy/dreams/visions, and in the quiet moments of prayer. If you want to deepen your relationship with God and learn how to discern his voice, this episode will provide practical insights on how to hear and respond to His voice in your everyday life. This podcast was inspired by this organization's bible study on “Prayer.” I highly recommend- https://www.practicingtheway.org/https://

Luke 10:38-42 38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

-What aspects of last week's teaching are most challenging for you? Gratitude, lament or asking? -What stories do you have of answered prayer? Or unanswered prayer? Read John 10:2-5 -In this passage Jesus has just healed the eyes of a blind man and uncovered the spiritual blindness of the religious leaders. He says that she sheep know their shepherd's voice. How have you dicerned God's voice from other voices in your life? -In what ways have you tried to listen for his voice? -Of the ways listed in the sermon, how do you primarily hear from God?

A Devotional on Jeremiah 43:8-13 8 Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying, 9 Take great stones in thine hand, and hide them in the clay in the brickkiln, which is at the entry of Pharaoh's house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah; 10 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them. 11 And when he cometh, he shall smite the land of Egypt, and deliver such as are for death to death; and such as are for captivity to captivity; and such as are for the sword to the sword. 12 And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captives: and he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd putteth on his garment; and he shall go forth from thence in peace. 13 He shall break also the images of Bethshemesh, that is in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians shall he burn with fire. A Call to Listen to God - Robb Ferrell - 3/3/2024
Episode 225-Listen to Gdd All the time there are at least three voices vying for our attention: my voice, the tempter's voice, and God's voice. For years, though, I listened to the tempter's voice constantly. It always has an element of truth to it. What he tells me is half-truth, half-lie. In the past he hadn't needed to be too subtle. He just put the bait out there and like a hungry, naïve fish, I'd bite, and gobble it up plus more. I listened because my rational mind agreed with him. My flesh wanted something sweet and carbohydrate-laden with tons of unhealthy fats. This time though I had made a firm decision. I was going to listen to the voice of God. I had invited God to tell me when I was making a wrong decision. Listen to episode 225 and I'll share with you 10 things that help you know it is God's voice instead of the enemy's. In this message, Pastor Jim speaks on our path to moving closer to Jesus and who he designed us to be as he walks us through Colossians 3:12-17. Pastor Jim will break down who you are becoming, how you are becoming, and what you are to do with who you have become- an evolution we experience as we become residents of the Kingdom of God.
Proverbs 3:1-10, Genesis 47:13-48:22, Matthew 16:21-17:13. We have the voices of family, friends and colleagues And sometimes we have the voice of Satan tempting us to disbelieve God's word and to doubt that God has our best interests at heart
Proverbs 3:1–10, Genesis 47:31,48:11–16, Matthew 16:21–25,17:1–5. We have the voices of family, friends and colleagues And sometimes we have the voice of Satan tempting us to disbelieve God's word and to doubt that God has our best interests at heart
You know when you read a verse in the Bible and suddenly you KNOW that it's talking about you? Right?! Well, this was one of those times for me. I know that when God does that He is actually trying to get me to see something that He wants to help me with. I just get to say “yes” (no matter how uncomfortable it seems to confront the issue He's highlighting) So I came to Him and said, “Lord, please help me to see what's really going on underneath this habitual behaviour, and let me know what I get to do about it” As He always does, He walked me through what was really going on, and showed me how His Truth could help me to get free of the way this thing has plagued me for way too long! It was beautiful and hope-filled and help-full too. So as you listen to or watch today's episode know that when God highlights something that's going on in you, it's because He wants to see you set free from that thing – once and for all. So As Always,

FAITH IS… with Pastor Rick Stevens – Would you like to hear from God? Are you ready if he speaks? Will you listen even if he says something you don't want to hear? Young Samuel, later the mighty prophet Samuel, heard God calling him one night. He listened. God's message wasn't easy to hear. But he listened. His example shows us how we can hear God and confirm his message to us...
