Emphasizing the qualities of a Good Shepherd – guiding, protecting, nurturing, and sacrificing for the sheep – the sermon calls on us to recognize and follow Jesus as their true Shepherd. We are encouraged to respond to Jesus' call, submit to his authority, recognize his voice, and follow him as their caring and sacrificing Shepherd.
This week we look at Jesus as the great Shepherd of the sheep.
Jesus is the good shepherd and the door. He will lead you into your blessed life as you follow His Word.

Who Do You Say that I Am? - Jesus
We exist for the praise of the glory of God’s grace in Christ Jesus. Everything we do as a church must bring glory to God in the name of Christ Jesus. We are an intergenerational church. We strive to make a seamless journey of faith from birth to old age. We are overtly trinitarian. We are always looking for the work of the Father through the Son by the power of the Holy Spirit. We value people. We present the ideal of God’s plan while embracing the reality of life.

Our expectations are not going to be fulfilled every time. When we have a temptation to walk up to someone and say, "If you only knew how angry or how much you frustrate me." ... what we really should be said, "Oh do you show me how self centered I am." What we're doing is plugging into them and that shouldn't be our source of power. We have wonder working power, we should plug into Him. He is the one that does meet our every expectation. Jesus has drawn a line that separates THE Shepherd from bad shepherds. The pastor of a church is an under-shepherd. Jesus is the door of the sheep. Anyone can come in and say some pleasant words and make people happy. But the under-shepherd has to be able to lead them to the door. He needs to point us to what the good shepherd said. Hebrews 13 gives the explanation of pastoral expectations for both the church and the pastor. God is the shepherd, He is the good shepherd, and the pastor is the under-shepherd. The pastor is held to a higher level of accountability. The word of God is our final authority and what we live by.

Within the Easter Season we encounter John's description of Jesus describing the shepherd and the sheep and explaining the difference between a thief, a hired hand, and the good shepherd. Comparing and contrasting the three characters in his narrative, we see how the message embodied by Jesus reveals what the abundant life can be for each of us.

The NATURE of the relationship determines HOW you talk to somebody. If they're a friend you can trust, the conversation comes easy. If they're a jerk you CANNOT trust, the conversation is strained, at best. But what's true of human relationships is ALSO true of our relationship with God. Which is why, of all God's attributes, there's ONE quality, ONE character trait, ONE aspect that matters MOST when it comes to prayer.

As we journey through the season of Easter, we encounter John's account of Jesus describing the abundant life using the images of sheep, shepherds, thieves, and hired hands. The abundant life turns out to be one laid before God to be picked up again in ways that exceed our greatest expectations in terms of doing no harm, doing all the good we can, and staying in love with God.
