The Essence of Friendship with Jesus Pastor Tommy reflects on the concept of friendship, noting the difference between acquaintances and true friends. Many people have acquaintances but few genuine friends. He recalls Arthur McMillan's statement: "I consider you my friend, but my best friend is Jesus." Pastor Tommy emphasizes that friendship with Jesus is a constant challenge, pushing one to become more like Him. Friendship with Jesus challenges individuals to become less like themselves and more like Him. Qualities of Jesus as a Friend Jesus Talks to Me Unlike casual friends, Jesus communicates regularly, even when Pastor Tommy isn't actively seeking Him. His voice dispels darkness and changes perspective. Pastor Tommy references Exodus 33, where God spoke to Moses as a man speaks to his friend. God's voice brings life and reveals the need for salvation, unlike the condemnation from the enemy. There is no confusion in the voice of God. God has shared eternal truth. The Holy Spirit speaks the Word of God into the soul, rescuing with that Word. Jesus Loves Me A friend loves at all times (Proverbs 17:17). God's love is unconditional, even when one is unlovable. 1 John 4:10: God loved us and sent His Son as propitiation for our sins. Jesus proved His love by laying down His life for His friends (John 15:13). If Jesus didn't love you for even a second, you would know it. Jesus Protects Me Jesus protects from worldly fears and the enemy's snares (Luke 12:4). He is always present, like a brother who sticks close. He puts a hedge and wall of love around. Jesus Corrects Me Faithful are the wounds of a friend (Proverbs 27:6). Correction and chastening are signs of God's love (Hebrews 12:6). A true friend will point out when you are going down the wrong path. The Holy Ghost arrested Pastor Tommy's soul and revealed the reality of hell. Jesus offers a better way and salvation. Jesus Died for Me Jesus left heaven and became flesh to pay the penalty for sin. A search was made in heaven, on earth, and under the earth, and only Jesus was found worthy to go. The angel announced the birth of a Savior in Bethlehem. Jesus was born to die and become the greatest friend. Story of a New Friend at the Airport Pastor Tommy shares an anecdote about meeting a man at the airport who wanted to be his friend. The man was outgoing, calling multiple people to share that he made a new friend. He asked Pastor Tommy to play Uno and wanted to text him regularly. Pastor Tommy reflects that God was sharing something with him about a person that didn't have another motive, he just wanted to be my friend. How to Know Jesus as a Friend Believe in Him Faith and trust are essential. Abraham was called the friend of God because he believed God (James 2:23). John 3:16: Believe in Jesus to have everlasting life. Obey Him Jesus said, "Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you" (John 15:14). Trust and obey.
In this episode of the C-Suite for Christ podcast, we're declaring war on the spiritual apathy that has handed our children over to the enemy. We have ten-year-olds who know more about gender theory than the Gospel of John. We have teenagers who can quote Taylor Swift by heart but have never read the words of Jesus. And we have Christian parents who will drive across three states for a baseball tournament but can't make it to church on Sunday. This isn't an accident. It's a strategic spiritual assault. While the Church has been sleeping, the world has been actively discipling our children, and it is not leading them to heaven. We've traded our sacred duty for worldly success, prioritizing grades over grace and trophies over truth. This episode is a wake-up call. It's a declaration of war on the spiritual apathy that has infected Christian homes. The world is raising your children. The question is, will you let them?Buckle up. This episode isn't about guilt—it's about repentance. And the stakes are eternal."As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." – Joshua 24:15Episode Highlights:11:48 - The number one answer wasn't, 'I stopped believing in God.' It was, 'Faith was never real at home.' Yikes. It's not that kids hate Jesus. It's that they never saw Jesus truly lived out.14:06 - Most Christian parents today aren't worshiping God with their families. They're worshiping success through their families. We've replaced 'seek first the kingdom of God' with 'seek first the scholarship, the promotion, the image, the win.' We've turned parenting into performance.23:00 - The only question that is going to matter is this: Did your child know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior? Imagine that moment standing before God, realizing you spent 18 years preparing your child for college but not for eternity. You made sure they got into Harvard, but never made sure they got into heaven.Connect with Paul M. NeubergerWebsite
Don't be a lazy Christian; pursue Christ by serving Him sacrificially, spending time in God's word, and praying. Know Jesus so you can imitate His character that produces good works for the Church and the world.
In this powerful sermon from John chapter 6, Pastor Fortunato exposes one of the most dangerous traps in Christianity: seeking Jesus for what He can give you instead of who He is. After the miraculous feeding of the 5000, the crowd crossed the Sea of Galilee desperately searching for Jesus—but were they really seeking Him, or just another free meal? This convicting message from Pilgrim Baptist Church challenges every believer to examine their heart. Are you going through the motions of religion, or do you have a genuine relationship with Christ? Do you want the Master, or just the meals He provides? Pastor Fortunato unpacks the biblical truth that fame fades, worldly accomplishments don't matter in eternity, and we are not "self-righting boats"—we desperately need the Captain of our salvation to transform us. Drawing from the incredible survival story of Ernest Shackleton's Antarctic expedition, this sermon illustrates what true sacrifice and endurance look like. While Shackleton led 28 men through 497 days of impossible conditions in -20 degree weather, many Christians struggle to sacrifice one hour a week or have one uncomfortable conversation about Jesus. This powerful parallel will challenge you to stop chasing temporary things and start pursuing eternal life. In this biblical teaching, you'll discover: ✝️ Why seeking Jesus for material blessings misses the gospel message entirely ✝️ The difference between dead religion and life-giving relationship with Christ ✝️ How to examine your heart's true motives in following Jesus ✝️ Why persistence in seeking doesn't always mean you're finding the real Jesus ✝️ The call to labor for eternal things instead of what perishes
Where does your treasure live? If someone followed your calendar, your bank account, or your social feed—what would they say matters most to you? In Week 2 of our Generous Living series, Pastor Vicki takes us to Matthew 25 and the Parable of the Talents to ask a vital question: What are we doing with what God has entrusted to us? Watch the full worship service video below or listen to the sermon audio player to experience the full message. ⸻ What We Treasure, We Multiply Jesus often taught in parables, and the one in Matthew 25:14–30 is especially provocative: a master entrusts his wealth to three servants before leaving on a long journey. When he returns, he wants to know what they've done with it. Here's what we learned from Pastor Vicki's message: • Everything belongs to God. The gold, the servants, the very breath in our lungs—it all comes from the Master. Our culture loves the idea of being independent, self-made, or self-owned. But in God's kingdom, we're stewards, not owners. • God expects spiritual profit. This parable isn't just about money. It's about using your time, energy, gifts, and influence for God's purposes. Pastor Vicki challenged us: “We are created to multiply God's impact through what we've been given.” • Fear is not a faithful excuse. The third servant buried the money out of fear. He didn't lose it—but he also didn't use it. Fear of failure or scarcity can paralyze us spiritually. But the kingdom of God calls for bold, faithful living, even in risk. ⸻ Faithful Stewardship Starts with Surrender We can't multiply what we're still clinging to. The first step in living generously is surrendering ownership back to God. That means asking: “What have I been given, and how can I use it for God's glory?” Whether it's your finances, your free time, your talents, or your relationships—God's looking not for perfection, but participation. You don't have to do everything. Just something. Faithfully. If you're ready to take your next step, join a Group or explore ways to serve at New Hope this season. ⸻ Know Jesus. Grow Faith. Go Multiply. This parable echoes New Hope's mission: Know Jesus. Grow Faith. Go Multiply. We want to be a church that multiplies disciples by living generously and faithfully with everything God has placed in our hands.
When we say yes to following Jesus, what comes next? It can be tempting to think that the most important thing is to get rid of all the mess in our personal lives, or to immediately get to work doing important things for God. But the gospels give a simpler and more radical invitation: we get to know Jesus by hanging out with Him, and receiving the grace he abundantly offers us. Come this Sunday to hear Tina share more about the radical transforming power of hanging out with Jesus in the second week of our teaching series, So, You Want to Be a Christian?”- Series Description - In our new series, So, You Want to Be A Christian?, we'll cover the beginning steps of following Jesus. At times, these are the steps we're begging self-proclaimed Christians in the public arena to follow. Other times, these are our steps as we grow in discipleship for the first time or as we're humbled by God to focus on the basics once again. Either way, we need to know how to grow in faith and how to respond to Jesus' words, “Follow me.” Whether this journey of following Jesus is brand new for us or whether we've been following Jesus for decades, each day is another chance to respond to his call for an upside-down kind of life reflective of His otherworldly Kingdom.

Michael grew up in a rough household. Most nights, he heard his parents fight, and on more than one occasion, he covered his father's sleeping body up on the sidewalk near their home after a drunken bout. Pent up anger led Michael to disruptive outbursts at school, prompting his mom to ship him to live with his grandmother, a tough German woman who survived the Dresden firebombings in WWII. From her rural country farmhouse, she taught him structure and discipline, yet still he struggled till God saved him at a Christian basketball tournament at age 17. Michael met his future wife Emily at a Bible study, and they've been blessed with 22 years of marriage and 9 children together. Author of It's Good to Be a Man, he currently serves as lead pastor of East River Church in Batavia, Ohio.

In her message “God Never Said: Follow Your Heart,” Rev. Vicki Harrison (she/her) dismantles the cultural myth that our feelings are always trustworthy. Drawing from Jeremiah 17:9, Matthew 15:19–20, and Proverbs 3:5–6, she reminds us that our hearts can be deceptive and self-serving. When we base our decisions on flawed theology or fleeting emotions, we risk misunderstanding who God truly is and what He calls us to do. Instead of following our hearts, Rev. Vicki challenges us to ask deeper, faith-forming questions like: Why am I here? Whom do I serve? She urges us to lean not on our own understanding, but on God's Word, prayer, Christian community, and regular worship. These are the pathways to being rooted in God's Word, renewed by the Holy Spirit, and ultimately reaching the world for Jesus Christ. If you're looking to grow in these rhythms and need people to walk alongside you, consider joining a Band Group at New Hope. Band Groups are small, same-gendered gatherings designed to help you read Scripture, pray together, and build honest, accountable relationships. Whether you're new to community or ready for a deeper connection, a Band Group can help you live out our mission to Know Jesus, Grow Faith, and Go Multiply. Sign up today: https://bit.ly/ineedaband

Send us a textIn a world full of assumptions about Jesus, how do we move beyond information and into genuine relationship? In this episode, we explore what it means to really know Jesus—not just know about Him.Many claim Jesus but don't truly know Him (Matt. 7:22–23). Jesus invites us into relationship, not religion (John 15:15; Philippians 3:10). Knowledge without intimacy can still lead to rejection (Luke 6:46). Read His story, talk to Him, obey Him, worship Him, and walk with His people.Challenge:Spend one week reading a chapter a day from John. Okay, put on your theological thinking caps, because in this podcast episode of The Patrick Madrid Show, you'll get a great answer to a BIG question: How do we know Jesus founded the Catholic Church and not some other Christian group? Patrick brings the receipts, the analogies, and yes… the flat earth references. The Question That Sparked It All A listener named Timothy emails Patrick this question: “Hey Patrick, aren’t you being a little harsh? You call out Protestants for coming down on Catholics, but then don’t you come down just as hard on non-Catholics? Aren’t both sides just passionate about what they believe?” Timothy’s tone is respectful. And Patrick loves it. He takes it seriously. He gives a full, no-punches-pulled response: rooted in reason, history, and good old-fashioned Catholic confidence. The Flat Earth Analogy Patrick compares Protestantism to… flat earth theory. Not because Protestants are dumb (he’s clear about that; they’re very sincere, smart, and well-meaning), but because: You can be sincere… and still be sincerely wrong. He argues that Protestant theology, like flat earth theory, is demonstrably false. It just doesn’t hold up when you look at Scripture, history, and the writings of the early Church Fathers. Just as science clearly disproves a flat earth, Church history disproves that Protestantism was ever the original Christianity. So, What Does the Bible Say? Patrick points out that Protestantism often relies on concepts like: Sola Scriptura ("Bible alone") Once Saved, Always Saved …which aren’t in the Bible... and in some cases are even contradicted by the Bible. He brings up passages like: 2 Thessalonians 2:15: Hold fast to the traditions, oral and written. 1 Corinthians 11: Keep the traditions as I delivered them. These support Catholic teachings about Scripture and Tradition. Patrick says that trusting only personal Bible interpretation turns the faith into a theological Rubik’s Cube: everyone has their own twist on it. That’s just not how Jesus set it up. Early Christians Weren’t Protestant, They Were... Catholic He brings up St. John Henry Newman, the Anglican scholar who tried to disprove Catholicism… and ended up converting because the evidence was so overwhelming. The early Church: Believed in the Real Presence in the Eucharist Celebrated the Mass as a sacrifice Had sacraments, priests, apostolic authority Baptized babies Defended Trinitarian doctrine against heresies And all this was happening centuries before the Reformation. Protestantism, Patrick argues, is a latecomer: a break from the historical Church, not a return to it. The Church is Noah’s Ark Patrick closes with a beautiful, personal touch: The Catholic Church is the Ark Jesus built to carry us through the flood of confusion, division, and error. He didn’t leave us a Rubik’s Cube Bible to figure out solo. He left us a Church: one, holy, catholic, and apostolic. That’s why Patrick is confident, not just passionate. He's not trying to win arguments. He’s trying to show that there’s an unbroken, visible, historical Church founded by Christ, and it’s Catholic.
