What if you stopped asking for permission and just decided you're allowed? This conversation with Marissa Loewen is a deep and unfiltered look at what it means to build a business that centers your needs, your power, and your truth. Together, we peel back the layers of shame, hustle culture, and inherited rules about money and leadership. It's not about rebellion for rebellion's sake. It's about remembering you get to choose. You get to profit. You get to be supported without apology. And you don't have to sacrifice your values to do it.   This Episode Is Perfect For You If... You feel trapped by the "shoulds" of traditional business advice You've been burned out trying to meet external definitions of success You want to talk about money without the toxic hustle narrative You're craving a business model that feels sustainable and soul-honoring You're ready to question capitalism, classism, and the systems that shape your pricing, productivity, and power   “If we only went by those rules where we only tried things when we have proved that it works somewhere else, we'd be in trouble.”   In This Episode (01:15) – How Seryna and Marissa first connected and the unshakable truth that sparked their bond (05:25) – Rethinking business models and rewriting capitalist rules from the inside out (12:00) – Building local economies and the rise of intentional consumerism (16:45) – Why profit planning isn't about greed, it's about sustainability and truth (22:30) – When to pivot, when to stop, and why burnout isn't a badge of honor (28:30) – Coaching, honesty, and building relationships that welcome your full self (36:00) – Community as resistance and the radical practice of asking for help (47:00) – Laughing at shame and choosing presence over perfection   “Being unshakable is choosing not to carry shame forward. It's saying: this ends with me.”   About The Unshakeable Self The Unshakeable Self is your guide to building unwavering confidence and authentic self-trust. He passionately shares the gospel in the Plautdietsch and Spanish. This entire conversation is in Plautdietsch, so my apologies to those who may not understand—but for our Low German-speaking audience, this is one you won't want to miss!John has dedicated his life to reaching Mennonite people with the message of Christ while also being deeply involved in a ministry serving underprivileged Spanish-speaking children in Cuauhtémoc. This ministry provides education – Teaching children to read and write, providing Food and care, showing hope for the future – Helping keep kids off the streets, and most importantly the Gospel – Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ!John's vision goes beyond the Mennonite community—he dreams of a cultural shift in Mexico, where families stay together and children grow up in stable, loving homes.

Greg Marchildon talks to Royden Loewen about his book, Mennonite Farmers: A Global History of Place and Sustainability. The book reveals the ways in which modern-day Mennonite farmers have adjusted to diverse temperatures, precipitation, soil types, and relative degrees of climate change. These farmers have faced broad global forces of modernization during the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, from commodity markets and intrusive governments to technologies marked increasingly by the mechanical, chemical, and genetic. As Mennonites, Loewen writes, these farmers were raised with knowledge of the historic Anabaptist teachings on community, simplicity, and peace that stood alongside ideas on place and sustainability. Nonetheless, conditioned by gender, class, ethnicity, race, and local values, they put their agricultural ideas into practice in remarkably diverse ways. Mennonite Farmers is a pioneering work that brings faith into conversation with the land in distinctive ways. Royden Loewen is Chair of Mennonite Studies at the University of Winnipeg. His books include Family, Church and Market: A Mennonite Community in the Old and New Worlds and From the Inside Out: The Rural World of Mennonite Diarists. Although some might consider Loewen the fittest mom after the 2023 NOBULL CrossFit Games, she doesn't feel she should hold the title of “Fittest Mom on Earth.”“Moms have a lot of pressure on themselves. The last thing I want a mom to see is if you're not competing at a CrossFit Games level, you're not doing enough. … We already have so much unrealistic expectations of ‘you have to fit back in your clothes, you have to lift what you lifted before.' All your kid wants is you and for you to love them. It takes time and patience.”After facing the challenges that come along with giving birth and becoming a mother, Loewen realized that regardless of fitness ability, every mom is a super mom. Whether they are doing CrossFit to get back in shape after birth, to be able to pick up their kid when they are a toddler, or to prove to themselves they can overcome challenges, parenthood is no small feat. “Everybody has a purpose. I'm lucky and thankful that my talent has brought me to the CrossFit Games. … Other girls, their journey might not look similar, but it's still just as important, just as amazing, just as great,” Loewen said. “Comparison is the thief of joy. So I'd hate for them to look at me and be like, ‘I'm only successful if I make it to the Games after having a kid.' No, your journey is different. And it is more than enough. It's awesome.”
