The most defining difference between people in the US is not cultural, racial, ethnic, or gender based, but ideological. Second in the summer reading series is the title, "Lies My Liberal Teacher Told Me" by Winfred Reilly. The obvious relation to the older text "Lies My Teacher Told Me" by James Loewen is obvious. Where Reilly is upfront of his bias, Loewen obscures it (along with Howard Zinn). Reilly's work would help the diversity, equity, and inclusion that is championed in most classrooms today. I speak with Brad Loewen, host of Beyond the Price, exploring Bitcoin adoption in East Asia. Brad and I both attended the Bitcoin Asia conference in Hong Kong recently, organised by BTC Inc, the same company behind Bitcoin Miami, Bitcoin Amsterdam, Bitcoin Magazine, along with their investment arm UTXO Management. Now it was clear that there would be some ordinal-related discussions at the conference which I wanted to verify for myself, however I was not expecting the sheer degree of emphasis on these, as well as the overall VC, compliance & KYC, public mining, and financial services direction of the conference. As we explore, I have come to question BTC Inc's motivations, their choice of sponsors and programming, and their commitment to Bitcoin as freedom and privacy tech. Bitcoin is resilient and anti-fragile, but I can't help but wonder if this conference and the so-called Bitcoin Magazine are not part of a broader attack that uses the affinity of the Bitcoin brand to nullify the ongoing imperative for sound money, self-custody, decentralisation, and self-sovereignty.
Yesterday we spoke with Alberta cabinet minister and life-long resident of Fort McMurray Brian Jean who became very emotional recalling the 2016 wildfire known as The Beast and the carnage the fire caused in Fort Mac and spoke about the evacuations ordered from the city earlier this week following the encroachment of a massive wildfire. Evacuations have ended following significant rainfall. How vulnerable does Alberta remain to devastating wildfires? Guest: Todd Loewen, Alberta Minister of Forestry and Parks. Witness to Yesterday (The Champlain Society Podcast on Canadian History)
Greg Marchildon talks to Royden Loewen about his book, Mennonite Farmers: A Global History of Place and Sustainability. The book reveals the ways in which modern-day Mennonite farmers have adjusted to diverse temperatures, precipitation, soil types, and relative degrees of climate change. These farmers have faced broad global forces of modernization during the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, from commodity markets and intrusive governments to technologies marked increasingly by the mechanical, chemical, and genetic. As Mennonites, Loewen writes, these farmers were raised with knowledge of the historic Anabaptist teachings on community, simplicity, and peace that stood alongside ideas on place and sustainability. Nonetheless, conditioned by gender, class, ethnicity, race, and local values, they put their agricultural ideas into practice in remarkably diverse ways. Mennonite Farmers is a pioneering work that brings faith into conversation with the land in distinctive ways. Royden Loewen is Chair of Mennonite Studies at the University of Winnipeg. His books include Family, Church and Market: A Mennonite Community in the Old and New Worlds and From the Inside Out: The Rural World of Mennonite Diarists. Days of Noah II - Satan's Agenda in the Earth | Pastor RJ Ciaramitaro and Pastor Larry Loewen by Windsor Christian Fellowship
Although some might consider Loewen the fittest mom after the 2023 NOBULL CrossFit Games, she doesn't feel she should hold the title of “Fittest Mom on Earth.”“Moms have a lot of pressure on themselves. The last thing I want a mom to see is if you're not competing at a CrossFit Games level, you're not doing enough. … We already have so much unrealistic expectations of ‘you have to fit back in your clothes, you have to lift what you lifted before.' All your kid wants is you and for you to love them. It takes time and patience.”After facing the challenges that come along with giving birth and becoming a mother, Loewen realized that regardless of fitness ability, every mom is a super mom. Whether they are doing CrossFit to get back in shape after birth, to be able to pick up their kid when they are a toddler, or to prove to themselves they can overcome challenges, parenthood is no small feat. “Everybody has a purpose. I'm lucky and thankful that my talent has brought me to the CrossFit Games. … Other girls, their journey might not look similar, but it's still just as important, just as amazing, just as great,” Loewen said. “Comparison is the thief of joy. So I'd hate for them to look at me and be like, ‘I'm only successful if I make it to the Games after having a kid.' No, your journey is different. And it is more than enough. It's awesome.”

Sometimes life throws you onto an unexpected path that leads to personal greatness—just ask Amanda Loewen, Oregon's first female third-degree Jiu-Jitsu black belt. On the Bamboo Lab podcast, we had the honor of chatting with Amanda about her extraordinary journey from horseback trails to the disciplined mats where she mastered the art of submission wrestling. As she shared her story, I was reminded of the power of timing and how the universe has a way of aligning things perfectly when we least expect it.This episode is a treasure trove of life lessons as Amanda opens up about the transitions that have shaped her, including the tough decision to seek healthier environments and relationships. Her resilience in overcoming challenging obstacles is not just inspiring; it's a profound reminder of the importance of trusting the process. We also delve into the importance of self-worth, the humbling experiences of competition, and how teaching others can amplify our own growth and understanding.Amanda's insights extend far beyond the Jiu-Jitsu mat. They include the courage to pursue one's passions, the value of therapy, and why it's crucial to listen to those who have walked before us. As she gears up for her next chapter as a sheriff's deputy and plans to open her own 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu studio, Amanda exemplifies that it's never too late for new challenges. So, join the conversation, share your thoughts, and let's continue inspiring each other to reach for our personal best, just as Amanda does every day. Please explore these amazing sponsors of Amanda:-VHTS (very hard to submit) use code Amanda10 for a discount-Garden of life -S4L Equestrian TeamNon profit link to donate or sponsor: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/5b7a2740-30a0-4be3-9f5a-b105dedc2b3cWebsite: S4Lranch.com Support the showhttps://bamboolab3.com/

As the haunting melody of "O, death to Nancy" echoes through our latest episode, the dark poetry of the BTK killer sends shivers down our spines. Imagine finding yourself in the crosshairs of a man whose letters and cryptic clues leave a city paralyzed by fear. Join me, as we sift through the twisted mind of Wichita's most notorious murderer, exploring his heinous acts and the intense pressure on journalists like Hatteberg and Loewen, who grapple with the dilemma of reporting on the killer's taunts without compromising the police investigation.Wichita transforms into a landscape of dread, where the simple act of checking a phone line becomes a ritual of survival. My journey into the BTK saga unveils the relentless pursuit by law enforcement to outwit an intelligent and unpredictable adversary. The eerie silence of the killer's trail is broken by the story of Anna Williams, who narrowly missed his deadly grip. We examine the intricate detective work behind the scenes and the essential cooperation between media and police. But amid the darkness, there's a glimmer of the personal - the touching concern of Officer Landwehr's mother, who monitors her son's safety through a police scanner. As I share their story, we prepare to unfurl potential connections that could lead us deeper into the web of BTK's sinister legacy. Don't miss this intricate tale of horror, heroism, and the unyielding quest for justice. Keep the lights on and stay with us on The Murder Book. Support the show

Paradox Church was founded in 2016 in Redlands, CA. We are currently in a three-year series through the Liturgical Calendar and the Lectionary that will end in 2025. We are affirming for all LGBTQIA persons, we celebrate and empower women, and we prioritize the sacred work of anti-racism.
