Main point: Godly leaders aren’t merely moved to help because of empathy or convenience, but the conviction brought by God’s promises. 1. People are your priority (v. 1-3) 2. God’s promises are your motivation (v. 4-11)
Harvest Bible Fellowship's weekly Message.
At some point in our adult lives, we develop a strong desire, a longing, to "go home again." It's a desire for safety and comfort, a desire to know and be known, a desire to things to be right and as they should be. Unfortunately, none of us can EVER go home again. So what's a person to do? What do you do with the gap between the way things are and the way things should be? Max Vanderpools starts off this study of Nehemiah and the desire we all develop (over our lives) to return home.

Annual question: Why don’t people do what they say they are going to do? Answer: They are not passionate about things that will benefit them. Big Question: Can the world see and feel your passion?

Nehemiah’s first response to bad news is prayer, and his theology comes out when he prays (as it does for all of us). Verse 5. shows that Nehemiah understood who God is, and verse 6-7 show that he also understood who mankind is. - People sin, but God redeems. - People’s hearts are corrupt, but God loves. - People are unfaithful, but God keeps His promises. Nehemiah was so moved by the situation of his brothers and sisters that he prayed intently and fasted purposefully. We need to be prepared for sympathy, love, and prayer to move us to action.

Nehemiah is a book of passionate determination that is founded in a love for God and His people. God used Nehemiah to rebuild the people of Israel. He chose Nehemiah because Nehemiah had a passionate burning for His people. God used Nehemiah in great ways through tough circumstances. He can do the same today with anyone who has found a passion to love God and His people. The first step begins with finding your passion. Sermon Outline @ http://bible.com/events/48938057

What do you do after a year that destroyed plans, wrecked dreams, cracked relational bonds, and set us back further than we expected? We REBUILD! In the book of Nehemiah, we see how God used one man and a nation of people to rebuild walls and reclaim hope. As we rebuild after the chaos of the last year, we'll see God's pattern for rebuilding from the pages of Nehemiah. Prayer is the first step when you're rebuilding. In this message, Pastor Scott Savage opens this series in chapter 1 of Nehemiah talking about prayer. When life breaks us and we're tempted to avoid our pain, prayer offers us a place to process that pain with God and discern how God is at work amidst the rubble.

In this message we look at the vision God gave Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem and how we can know when God has given us a vision to fulfill.

“What’s Broken In Your World That Needs Fixing?”
“What’s Broken In Your World That Needs Fixing?”
We dive into Nehemiah as he is broken over the news of how bad of shape his nation is in. Nehemiah allows his heart to be broken and then he prays. He extols the Lord, confesses, repents and asks God to bless his action. We should follow Nehemiah's example as we address the many issues in our world.
This sermon is the first in a new message series on the book of Nehemiah. The title of the series is "Rebuilding Your Life." We're going to look at the account of Nehemiah rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, and apply insights to the challenges we face in rebuilding the broken things in our own lives. Tomorrow's message is based on Nehemiah chapter 1, which sets the stage for the book, and shows us Nehemiah's response to some bad news. We'll be focusing on what this teaches us about facing the reality of our life situations.
Realization of need for renewal. Remembering God promises for renewal. Seek renewal through prayer. As soon as I heard these words I sat down and wept and mourned for days, and I continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven. Nehemiah 1:4
